Wouldn't have been better of the sequel had been about someone investigating the deaths and events of the first movie? It would've been a deeper tie and maybe they could've just said that the two survivors ended up losing it and were in a mental hospital or they ran off together and were living overseas or something.
Either that or something like "Grave Encoutners" where a group goes there to investigate the house or something and maybe they mention they tried to contact the surivors and they never called them back.

I'm surprised they never used one of the sealed windows like a guillotine... like, one of the cronies trying to crawl out and run, only for the heavy metal window cover to fall on them. It seems like something they'd do in this film, but nonetheless, we get this pile of shit.

The greasy-haired male student also played Hatter from SciFi's Alice. And literally from that one role, I can honestly say he's too good for this film.

This DVD gimmick sounds like it was originally supposed to be a video game pitch the way it works out.

I saw this movie on the SyFy Channel ahead ago and it was censored down. Weak ass but a passable low budget sequel to an expensive B movie.
Why didn't they have the sequel be about the police investigating into the murderer from the first film? Have the police suspecting the two survivors because of the prize money.
For an added touch, have the investigation team have a connection to the house as well. Like have the lead detective be the son of the corrupt cop who turned a blind eye to the mad doctor's sadistic experiments. Yeah, it'd be an astronomical coincidence, but it would fit with the first movie.
I'm not even completely against the idea of the statue, but have it be where the doctor wanted to experiment on his patients as ghosts, and not even allowing them to escape him in death. I'll admit that sounds pretty goofy, but that would at least allow for an expansion of the lore without assassinating any character's agency.

the kill at 8:44 reminds me of the start of a MK " FATALITY", anyone else get that vibe ( would be surprised if that was not what they were going for in the first place)? Maybe she died of shock from fear/ heart attack or just death by crappy writing ?
Of course the black dude died first, it's a time honored trope , I have a lot of black friends and not a single one is offended by this trope. However the ones I have talked to about tropes are much more offended when the character is just a token black person trope, or when the character is automatically attracted to a white person for no reason at all out of the blue. I can't blame them it would really piss me off if my culture was represented all the time as only worthy of being a special friend or if it was represented that both the females and males can't date their same ethnicity in order to push a hidden agenda constantly . One of my closest friends ( really she's more like my sister to me I love her so much) is a black gal that shares my love of horror movies and she has brought it up several times to me that black directors are just as guilty of doing this but in reverse although you see a token white actor much less because whites are usually reserved as the villains in a lot of horror movies that try to capitalize on black markets.
I'm gonna end this rant here before it gets much longer, but I really think it's sad such practices are used by all forms of entertainment, we deserve better as people of this world with common sense !
Wait, the hell? My version of the movie doesn't have the "choose your own path" feature. So not only did I have to see a movie I really liked get a pretty crappy sequel, but I didn't even get all the features it has? Damn.
So glad I didn't see this movie.
It was so rediculous and just soooo bad.
There was no redeeming qualities to it and it was boring too.
If I had my way, I would change a good portion of the story. People learn about it, seek it out, and find it. They take it to some area, and destroy it thinking it would help. But plot twist, the statue was just some random golden trinket the main ghost villain had. Of course the statue would not be in some flesh room, but in an old safe. The bad guys wanting it cause it was worth a lot of money, and the "good" guys thinking destroying it would end the horror.
Of course the status is in a sense bait, no super natural properties, just a creepy looking solid gold statue. How they would escape would be to rip open a hole that the house could not close. Creating a means of blowing open part of the wall, the house reacts as the trapped souls start to escape, of course during this time the final encounter with the living bad guy happens. Once all the souls have gone, well all the ones that wanted out at least, some how the hole slowly starts to heal, going from looking like a part of wall blown up to a semi flesh like bleeding parts slowly regenerating.
The living bad guy is dealt with as the remaining good guys throw the golden statue into the house, and the bad guy jumping for it just as the hole finally closes. The bad guy holds the statue, grinning like he won, turning to exit when he sees the ghost doctor, and a few of the other doctors standing in front of him. The bad guy books it away, with the other doctors looking about ready to give chase, Of course the ghost doctor motions for them to stop, as he grins knowing their is no other way to escape. And screaming is heard as the camera pans out.

I have seen this movie twice and could not now explain the plot or name any of the characters, I guess the 7 branching story points could account for this. I am tempted to try it out but the film is so rubbish I don't think I could put myself through that...

Well, I think the face scene with the lesbian(?) merc was she fainted from shock maybe. Otherwise the explanation is just "It's magic ghost shit, we don't gotta' explain it!"

The same act was also done in Hostel 3, and I wondered how the person would die bec of that.

Funny thing about William Massa, the writer for the movie. He now writes Independently published novels on Amazon (specifically the Occult Detective novels) and yeah, they are just as schlocky and cliche as this movie.
Interesting genre though. Might look into one.

My problem with this movie is that the house minus the outside looks so different. Like where were these rooms in the original.

The place can add and shift rooms around of it's own will everytime it comes back or when no ones inside long enough.

They need to release a Director cut of the 1999 movie because that movie has so many deleted scenes that fits well with the movie. sadly the sequel was just terrible. Add a new elements that didn't be part of it.

Always wanted a sequel to the 99 movie, unfortunately we got it..
Despite the end I loved the 99 movie and thought they could do so much with that story, whether it be a sequel or prequel. This just felt rushed and thrown together, and a huge waste of Jeffrey Combs' talent!
I'd say Vannacut was a bad guy regardless of the statue. Electroshock and lobotomy were unfortunately perfectly acceptable "cures" for that time period.

The weak scream was a post-production sound issue, not the actor's fault.
Why was the professor at Sara's house? He couldn't have been there to see Ariel. And he already knew where the statue was located, so he didn't need the journal.

You know your movie sucks when you need sexy lesbians making out in order to keep the attention of the viewers. Romero had the very random lesbian make out scene in Land of the Dead. It pissed me off.
I personally like this movie, not as much as the first one though. But it's a fun enough spookhouse gorefest. It wasnt as bad as Ghost Ship

What a total crock of shit just essentially erasing Ali Larter and Taye Diggs characters and stories from the original. The "original" house on haunted hill ( seeing as this is a sequel to a somewhat shit remake of a horror classic) was no cinematic masterpiece, but it was at least a decent gore filled early 2000s ghost/haunted house flick with a surprisingly decent cast and some really cool gore scenes and special effects and it deserved more than this piece of shit sequel in my opinion. What the fuck were they thinking with this piece of shit? They could have made a decent sequel with a decent cast because the first one was actually pretty popular and was one of the better horror movies of the time if I remember correctly, but for whatever reason they decided to make a terrible straight to DVD shit show with a bunch of awful characters that even big name actors would of had a hard time making likeable because of how terrible each character was written, and then there's the ridiculous "choose your own story" gimmick that is one of the dumbest fucking ideas for a movie. They obviously had a really difficult time just writing a coherent story without a single realistic or likeable character, so deciding to completely convolute the absurd and ridiculous story even more by filming "90+" different " stories" is one of the most baffling and confusing decisions for any movie ever, lol. I remember the few goosebumps books that were written with the whole choose your own adventure gimmick back in the 90's, but I honestly can't remember there ever being any other movie that used the idea. It was kind of interesting and fun as a kid and reading a goosebumps book and then coming to a page where you were given a few different scenarios to continue the story, where you would come to some climax and the book would tell you to flip to page 104 to see the character turn left, or turn to page 112 to go right, but it at least works in a book to some degree, but I just can't see a movie working without a coherent and decisive narrative. When you start to give viewers instructions in the middle of a scene where they have to basically pause the movie and decide which button to press it destroys the immersion and pulls you out of the film and makes it feel more like a video game and is a gimmick that just doesn't work in cinema imo. Plus I can't get over how they just erased Taye Diggs' character and kills off Ali Larters character right away. The first movie ended in somewhat of a cliffhanger, with both Diggs and Larters characters narrowly escaping the house through some door way up in the attic, and they are both left on some tiny ass ledge hundreds of feet above this giant cliff on this tiny ledge of the house with all of the checks and a,house full of dead people, lol. I at least would have liked to see how the fuck they got off that ledge, or if the police wanted to maybe ask them how they went into a house with a bunch of other people, yet they are the 2 sole survivors and everyone else was brutally murdered and mutilated, and btw the 2 of them now have a bunch of checks with all of the dead people's names on them, lol. AND HOW THE FUCK DID THEY GET OFF THAT LEDGE, LOL!!!! When I saw that movie years ago I remember leaving the theater and scratching my head about how they got down from up there. That really wasn't a happy or satisfying ending imo because as far as anyone knew they never got down from there and they ended up starving and their skeletons were still up there. It would have made this dumb sequel way better if instead of just forgetting all about those 2 characters and just nonchalantly killing Ali Larters character at the very beginning, it would have been at least kind of entertaining if at some point during this movie if some of the characters had made there way up to the top and found that door, then when they opened it there were just 2 skeletons up there still clutching those checks, lol. Like instead of Diggs just vanishing and Ali Larter shooting herself they never made it off that ledge and were still up there when these new characters went to the house. Literally anything would have been better than just not telling or showing the audience how they got down from there after the first movie and then just essentially erasing them for the second movie.

Wouldn't that mean any thing extremely painful, like car crashes for example would always be fatal ? you cant tell me that the kind of severe bodily trauma experienced in a car accident wouldn't be as bad as a face neatly cut off.

Had the final destination that was pick your own.. first choice accidentally saved them all.. annoyed my sister and brother lol . But at that point i was a bit disappointed so just started trying to off everyone and see what each option did..
It was very lack luster really though. I can't really think of a good one but that could be cause I've only seen\played like 1-4 area
self aware twat is brilliant English actor and producer Andrew Lee Potts. He did try a few movies in America, but they were low budget. I think he should have used his own voice instead of putting on an accent, things may have gone better for him.

But the 2nd H.o.t.h.h. only had 1 cheesy scene that I actually enjoyed & that was the lesbian ghost scene!😘 lol.
