I noticed a wide variation in trigger pull techniques in this video. For example, the measurements taken with the WM had sort of a jerking motion vs. the slow & steady trigger pull motions with the digital gauges. Junk in, junk out.

I like how the Wheeler stores the information and does all the math for you. Just ordered one from Amazon.

They are way off because you did not pay attention to pull every single one at the same spot and same angle and speed.

U should not ignore the decimal points, especially when it is > 0.5 oz. U should also mark the point on the trigger where you put the hook of the gauge. Your method is not scientific and causes a lot of errors and confusion

If you are going to use these instruments to create an average, the human instrument needs to have consistency as well. Speed, angle, smoothness, etc. All play into factor when recording data.
Also, you absolutely need to perform these tests at a slow pull rate.
If you're able to slow the video down far enough, you can see the pull force number continue to rise even after the trigger breaks.

i think you should be more careful in using these gauges the reading are way off on all of them, your going to get a different reading if you pull the trigger at the end of the trigger or the top of the trigger it should be pulled at exactly the same spot on the trigger each time, although his data did show insight as to which trigger tester was consistent and that was the 2 calibrated ones

Good description of variation of trigger pull readings and differences between gauges, manual vs digital. I use a Lyman [new version] and find it to be pretty repeatable. One thing you didn't touch on, [probably because it wasn't the topic of the video] but is important.... the speed or rate at which you pull the trigger when taking readings. Almost always, a faster pull will result in a lower reading., slower pull , higher reading. Now it doesn't really matter , fast, slow in between, but what matters is you want to be consistent when taking your readings. This will give you the best data for determining percent reduction. Also, try to pull at the same direction or angle each time, because that will also change your readings, enough to skew the data. Hope this helps to explain trigger pull testing a bit more, and hopefully not confuse the heck out of everybody.
Just remember, try to be consistent in how you pull the gauge...same speed, same direction, accurate digital gauge and you will get the best data to work with. Oh...almost forgot, the Winchester Model 70 Trigger Spring Kit Works!!! That Verified! I just installed my second and got a very, almost unbelievable significant reduction in pull weight, in the neighborhood of 50% for both...sweet! Kudos on the Engineering. Simple solution that just plain works....plus is extreemly reasonably priced. Buy one today, you wont be disappointed.

Big savings with the manual guage and if you test it with known weights you can record the actual reading of over or under.. For example if you know it reads 1 lb over at 5 lbs and 2 lbs over at 8 lbs etc. then you can get just as accurate as the digital and save a ton of money.. It is not rocket science..

IMHO it's hard to beat the accuracy to cost percentage of a $10 digital scale, $5 metal rod and a one gallon jug, precision down to a gram. Centra gauge accuracy at 7% cost, the convenience of a Centra is pocket EDC if you want to check before a self defense need.

I have the Lyman digital like the one you tested that wasn't calibrated. How can I check the calibration of mine without other trigger pull scales?

you should do a milk bottle test on all the Gauges. You do know how to do that Right? I would check all Gauges at 1 lb 2 lb 3 lb 4 lb 5 lb 6 lb 7 lb 8lb you will know what is the best Gauge after your milk bottle test.

I can't buy that Wheeler manual after seeing this. I really wonder how the Timney manual does. Buds Gun Shop has the Wheeler for $15, but 2 lbs off really sucks. Nice comparo, thanks.

if you know it is two lbs off then just do the math, easy right, if the guage pulls at 7 lb then you know it is 5 lb. or order a sticker and place it over the top of the old one or heat the sticker and move it.

@@MCARBO IF YOUREAD THE MANUAL, it will tell you to place your finger on the part that goes over the trigger. (this is the sensor!) Not to pull the hole gauge. All the sensors are in the part that contacts the trigger. you can get more precise readings using this method. So many people use this gauge wrong.
