Matilda Wormwood is the clever, brave, book-loving girl who gives her name to one of Roald Dahl's last published stories: Matilda.
By the age of four, she is so clever that she has read all the children's books in her local library, including the works of Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling. Observing her exceptional abillities in arithmetic and limericks, her schoolteacher Miss Honey thinks Matilda is a genius.
Sadly, her parents aren't so impressed. Mr and Mrs Wormwood completely fail to appreciate Matilda's amazing intellect - but luckily for Matilda, this also means they never fail to fall for her tricks...
...karma is dealt to her hapless parents when they pay for their indifference and stupidity in a number of subtle ways.
It is for the evil, bullying Headmistress Miss Trunchbull that Matilda saves her greatest trick for, though...

Had a cataract operation yesterday and wasn't allowed to read or watch television. I went on Audible and found Matilda with Kate Winslet reading it, the sample sounded great, but it was 7:99, and at present,I couldn't justify it. I started checking out Matilda's on UA-cam and heard two different versions with guys reading it, they were fine but I carried on looking. Then came across your reading. As I mentioned earlier, I loved your reading, the voices, and pace, really excellent. But weirdly, what swung it was the Geordie accent, (I hope I've got the right area!!). My dad's side of the family are from Seaton Delaval, near Whitley Bay, although I was brought up in North London. That's what made your reading extra special, LOL!!
@@markbrown6978 Awww thank you so much and Whitley Bay is lovely! My accent is not far off, it's County Durham but I always use it for my UA-cam narrations and standard English in my audible ones. I have a whole Roald Dahl playlist that I have made that is free to listen to plus much more. I hope your eyes recover well 😊

I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman! I think he has an audiobook of it that he read and there is one with a full cast too. He also has one which is all of his audios together. He is legendary!
