- In this episode of Mr. P. Explores, we head down to central Ohio, to the town of Mount Vernon and the site of a now-demolished PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) factory. What’s so special about a site that has been demolished? Well, the city of Mount Vernon, using some historic genius, turned the site into Ariel Foundation Park, incorporating big pieces of the old factory into the new family-friendly landscape! Ruins and artifacts from the original plant are part of the park-going experience, from old elevator towers to the glass itself. There’s even a “labyrinth” of sorts, and something called the “River of Glass!” Ruins of portions of long gone industrial buildings dot the area, and we’re going to check them out in this walkthrough! A fair bit of warning: the wind was AWFUL on the day we went, so much so that the Go-Pro couldn’t filter it out. Apologies in advance! Still, the park site is amazing in its own right and I hope you enjoy the trip!
Music:
Intro: Bruno E. - “Soul Brother”
Labyrinth Walk: Scott Joplin - Maple Leaf Rag

That's my familys land or was... Enjoy. My grandfather's house still stands but they dozed my great grandparents and aunts house for the park. I will admit the factory had to go, there was zero hope for it to reopen but was sad they dozed my family's homes. The factory was massive inside, consisted of two large buildings that were connected and the time clock building. Which is the smaller building that houses a historical museum now. I'm glad they left some of the buildings, there used to be two smoke stacks, one came down in the mid 90s and the one that was left is now the tower you can climb. Before the factory was all dozed, it was a storage unit inside and it was really cool to see the inside where my family worked.
This is amazing! What a great way to preserve history. It is like a wonderful outdoor art gallery.
