I had the rare privilege of seeing Joe in a small venue in Orlando about 15 to 18 years ago. I also have read his book "A Cure for Gravity." I have such a tremendous respect for this man. I believe him to be among the very top greatest modern-day composers of our time. Joe has an understanding of music theory that surpasses 99.5% of musicians and he puts his talent to very good use. I must see him again, it would be both an honor and a thrill, not to mention a cherished memory, like the one I have of Orlando.
One of the most prolific composers of our time. His lyrics and cord structures are memorable and to die for. Joe Jackson has not reached his deserved ratings nor his outreach.
I've had the gift to see him three times in person. Each was completely different and equally impressive. Joe Jackson and Andrew Bird are the two performers I've seen who are implicitly created for the stage. They don't seem to care much about the audience but are compelled to perform to a level above them. That doesn't mean they are above it all. They just create at a different level than what we expect. This song is a testament to something none of us will understand.
If I had been in the audience for this, my applause afterward would be languid and lacking. I would be so blown away that I couldn't muster the energy to give it its due! I would hope Joe wouldn't misconstrue the tepid response. This is just such an amazing, raw, honest song, and delivered so plainly and directly here. Wow.
My favorite version of my favorite JJ tune. Funny thing is, he looked like a proper old British man in the '80s and he looks the same now. Not a little old man, though. I was drinking in the open windows of my favorite pub on St. Marks Place in New York's East Village in the 90s when he sauntered by. A big dude.
Joe Jackson - quite simply - is one of the most brilliantly gifted songwriters of all time.
Pretty good artist as well.
Preach!
and criminally underrated
In the Netherlands this is his most uderrated work, everybody knows the usual suspects.
In my 250 best songs ever
The most underarted artist of his time.
Joe transcends time... this song has given me goosebumps for decades...

I honestly love him. His music has spoken to me and for me since I was a teenager in the mid-80s.
Love this song. Joe is a genius.
I have always loved this song but this arrangement, this performance - no words - just beauty and tears.
