I had the rare privilege of seeing Joe in a small venue in Orlando about 15 to 18 years ago. I also have read his book "A Cure for Gravity." I have such a tremendous respect for this man. I believe him to be among the very top greatest modern-day composers of our time. Joe has an understanding of music theory that surpasses 99.5% of musicians and he puts his talent to very good use. I must see him again, it would be both an honor and a thrill, not to mention a cherished memory, like the one I have of Orlando.

They don't seem to care much about the audience but are compelled to perform to a level above them. That doesn't mean they are above it all. They just create at a different level than what we expect. I was drinking in the open windows of my favorite pub on St. Marks Place in New York's East Village in the 90s when he sauntered by. A big dude.
If I had been in the audience for this, my applause afterward would be languid and lacking. I would be so blown away that I couldn't muster the energy to give it its due! I would hope Joe wouldn't misconstrue the tepid response. This is just such an amazing, raw, honest song, and delivered so plainly and directly here. Wow.
Joe Jackson - quite simply - is one of the most brilliantly gifted songwriters of all time.

Learnt to play this song on the piano justo so I could sing it to her on our silver anniversary. Both cried buckets.
