The activities of Project Veritas are indeed illegal. California and Missouri are two-party consent states, which means that in order to legally record a conversation, both parties must consent to the recording. Project Veritas's "stings" in those states were done without the consent of the recorded parties, and are in violation of the wiretap laws of those states. Now, had they been _actual_ journalists, their newspaper, magazine, or radio or television station would have had a legal team to help them draw the line between appropriate investigative activity and criminal behavior. As it is, they will face jail time. Project Veritas is also notorious for releasing video clips taken way out of context in a hamfisted, amateurish attempt to smear the left. Even when their activities aren't criminal, they are grossly irresponsible.
When I started journalism, I was never told I would be some protected class. I was told to know my rights and recognize that being behind a camera does not make me above the law or immune to harm. Journalism from what I experienced could also be a major pain - If somebody doesn't want to interview you, it's hard to get a story sometimes. You don't have the right to make people speak for you. I won't speak for other journalists or other publications, but where I work no one acts as if you're above the law or have any sort of special privilege. Then again, most of us like to denigrate publications like Buzzfeed and Kotaku, so maybe the environment at those places are much different. My problem with your argument is that you act against journalism with a double standard. Trump only targets news outlets that are specifically targetting him but ignores other outlets like Breitbart who praise Trump but also have little to no credibility. People are not mad that Trump is not respecting some "protected class" of journalism, people are upset that he's lashing out against ANYONE who criticizes him. you can't seriously sit there and tell me that all news outlets who criticize Trump do so by calling him buzzwords. Trump lashes out against ANY criticism leveraged against him and that's the problem journalists find in his rhetoric, not that they believe they don't respect some sacred right of theirs as a journalist. Trump is perfectly okay with "fake news" so long as it benefits his bottom line. You're giving Trump way too much credit here. Your definition of journalism has no foundation. What are you basing your definition on? Random UA-camr's like Sargon of Akkad or Black Pigeon are not journalists because they did not distribute or discover any of the news articles they make videos about. None of the sources they use are made by them, they're merely commentators on things journalists have reported on. They are not distributing new information, they are stating their opinions on the internet. Maybe you can make the case that they're columnists, but they sure as hell are not journalists. I will, however, agree to an extent that Project Veritas is journalism. Much of the reasoning people reject the journalist label for this group is that they get their sources through deception. They lie about their identity in order to provoke people to speak off the record and posting their statements without their permission. This is considered to be highly immoral in journalistic practices, but I don't think this necessarily disqualifies them as journalists since they are ultimately doing their job - collecting and distributing information. You are right to say that, in this case, if they're going to disqualify Veritas as journalists for immoral practices then you should also disqualify CNN under the same justification.
DrewbusDumbledouche Not that I disagree with everything you stated but Trump is lashing out at news outlet that outright lie about him and even you can't deny they have gone out of their way to take him out of context and used unverified information. However, I do think sites like Brietbart can also be disingenuous when they should be objective in their reporting.
@@thealphaincel1619 Trump lashes out against ANY journalist who says woe of him. You don't see Trump praising journalists in places like Al-Jazeera or The Economist for creating good critiques of him. Even then, why should we assume EVERYTHING written by Huffington or CNN is untrue or not valid? Why should Trump demean journalists for wanting to interview him, regardless of what publication they work for? Trump's argument isn't at all nuanced, he isn't specifying what's being said of him that's "fake news," he just uses the word to present any of his opponents as being ignorant of his "greatness." It's why his supporters like to claim any evidence that is negative about Trump is simply "Fake news." The term has degenerated into simply meaning "I don't agree with this source, so it must be fake!" Which is the same way Trump uses this term.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/01/year-trump-war-attrition-journalists-180114105136848.html www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2018/08/checking_the_presidents_claims.html nypost.com/2018/07/13/trump-says-us-supports-britain-in-brexit-talks/ No, Trump has openly attacked journalists regardless of who they work for. The only journalists Trump gives credit to are those who kiss his ass. As the top article shows, Trump has acted out against independent journalists, not just the big publications like MSNBC or CNN. The thing is Trump is vague on who he attacks with the "fake news" label - he rarely specifies anyone when he uses the term, and if he does, it's usually CNN which is low hanging fruit anyway. Trump openly whines against ANY sort of criticism, and often times the criticism against him is perfectly valid. If Trump acted with any nuance and didn't expect the media to play to his ego, he'd be praising publications like Al-Jazeera and Politico. Not to mention that Trump's claims of "fake news" is often bullshit to begin with. As the third article shows, Trump denied he was critical May in an article published by a Conservative news network that has spoken positively of Trump in the past. The second article shows a list of claims against Trump that, at the very least, is substantial enough to not be called "fake news." To his credit, yes, there are publications that do publish "fake news" about Trump but the assumption that he only targets these stories is outright false.
I agree on nearly everything you say, game journalism is definitely shit, but I have to say that I have mixed feelings about journalists as a protected class: I think journalists should be held accountable for misleading articles and the damages these articles do, but I also think that journalism as a whole should have some privileges that make it hard to censor this profession since its usefulness to the common folk is undenayable. What I totally disagree with, however, is your take on Trumo, a politician I find highly hypocritical, not to mention racist, sexist and possibly a fascist (if that raid on the Capitol is anything to go by).
1st. Journalists already have rights that prevent them from censorship, they’re called free speech & freedom of press. That doesn’t mean they’re immune from hit pieces or fake news, as trump would say. 2nd the capitol was nothing but a walk around the place, the “summer of love” killed over 30 people, and he said “protest in peace” before the fact, after it happened he tweeted a video asking everyone to go home peacefully. He’s the better man.

So Ralph actually breaking common ToS rules like actually harassing people via the killstream or ban evasion is okay?
@@ShortFatOtaku Which I agree is just terrible. But Saying that he shouldn't be banned is, in my opinion anyways, not really a good thing considering that he has done things that in a reasonable ToS would have had him banned a LONG time ago.
i knew i heard about project veritas before philly d made a video in 2017 discussing their engagement with the washington post in which they seemed to have tried and failed to bait the washington post their president then posted an edited recording of an interview that made him look good so they are a questionable source but those clips were pretty interesting and while they could be normal in certain contexts they do seem like they are instances of shady admissions idk personally i wouldn't bring them up in the first place they seem dodgy

"...vocal minority, that hates journalists, women, and minorities..." Quality of modern gaming journalism. Minority that hates minorities. Brilliant. He couldnt use any synonyms.
Anyway, in reality majority of gamers despise gaming journos and is irritated by NPCs constantly telling them how they can or cannot play games, what games they should play, and how they should react to those games. Nobody gives a shit about women or minorities in gaming, up to the point as said groups start infringing on our hobby.
Gamers do not hate women or minorities, they hate dickheads who think that they know better, while knowing jackshit.
They are a protected class. Only as a human being though. Journalism doesn't come with extra rights and protections though. It is just a job.

Journalists are people who go out for the story.
People who talk about the work that other people made, are commentators. Reporters.
TYT, Crowder, Shapiro, Ceder and the like are reporters/commentators.
The people they hire to go out, question and write are journalists. Fact based or opinionated editorial is up for debate though.
Crowder does actually go out and investigate. He exposed Antifa smuggling knives and other weapons and conspiracy to bring firearms with the intent to kill "nazis" and a free speech rally.

You can play it on PC if you get an android emulator like Bluestacks and play it on that. Also if you go to the Diablo subreddit there are numerous people saying with all of the Diablo shit and the fallout they understand now why GamerGate was a thing.
What the fuck is VG247? Why should I care about this unknown group pulling their support for GoG? What I do care about is GoG backing down and apologizing. Where my beating stick? I need to go whip GoG back into being a cool place to by old games.
But don't there dare to be a sexy female character or a critical depiction of their worldviews in games, those blue checkmarks will do the very exact thing if not worse, that they are accusing - or rather projecting - gamers of here in regards of Diablo-mobile-fartcrap. Assuming their prior behaviour, evidence and some of the... obvious... messages, these people never cared about games in the first place. I honestly do not understand this type of action, behaviour, mindset of this subset of humans. Just... why...?
Not convinced that Diablo is an rpg.

*I HATE Games Journalism! That is to say; I hate Kotaku, Polygon, IGN, Virge, and SO MANY MORE!* The ONLY Game's media I trust are independent reviewers on UA-cam - usually Anti-NPC/SJW types. Because FUCK POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!
When I was a wee lad, it was the REPUBLICANS that could not STAND for any insult! Now, the Right has become Meme-Lords all the way to Trump. I never liked Trump as a person, but I LOVE Trump memes, they are hilarious. And that makes Trump more relatable, opposite to Shillary Clinton talking about "Deplorables" and that Pepe is a "White Supremacist Meme"!
And that is even ignoring her carreer as a slimy politician who only cares about money and power for herself. I did not vote for Trump or Hillary, but if Hillary is the Democrat for 2020, well I probably will vote Trump.

DrewbusDumbledouche
Not that I disagree with everything you stated but Trump is lashing out at news outlet that outright lie about him and even you can't deny they have gone out of their way to take him out of context and used unverified information.

No, Trump has openly attacked journalists regardless of who they work for.
The killstream is bad for business.
I don't see a problem with him being taken down.
But they kinda are though.
