Franz Liszt: Piano Concerto n.2 in A major Krystian Zimerman, piano Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, Daniel Barenboim, conductor Live from Bayreuth 31/07/1986
Zimerman is the best of the best pianists in the world. His technic is perfect and looks so good, his sound tone phrasing are the most measured and controlled. N.1 pianist in the world.
when zimerman plays chopin, we think he is a real inheritor of chopin. when zimerman plays liszt, we thinks, oh he is so liszt. a very all-round pianist. so great!
Escuché varias versiones de este bello concierto, todas hermosas. Pero ésta, especialmente, la más antigua, me impactó. Zimerman y Barenboim en su juventud, con su impronta, le dan un brillo especial.
You never thought that you'd see a "new" Zimerman oldies videos. But here it is. Such a jewel. The performance is on the slow side, but holy Liszt! It is majestic rather than languorous. Reveling in the shades of sounds rather than the flash.
I've never heard the 2nd Liszt concerto sound like this . As frightening as Michelangeli in Totentanz . I didn't know the music should even be played this way ! Does Barenboim play it himself this way -No! It's valid but totally shocking an out of this world experience . I grew up with Sauer and Weingartner 's almost salon approach to this music -not far from the humor and pleasantries of SaintSaens yet both these men knew and studied long periods with Liszt . What a revelation this is !
To think I lived more of my life without classical music, than with it. So happy to explore new music everyday (Going onto my 4th year as a self-taught pianist & classical music enthusiast.) Although, I've heard this masterpiece before. It never gets old; in-fact, it gets better every solitary time. Thanks for the upload!! ..and thanks to Liszt, for being the greatest composer to ever live! (other than Rachmaninov, of course.)
May I suggest a couple classic lectures about Liszt.. one by Leslie Howard, (..on Liszt), and Prof. Alan Walkers lecture at the Library of. Congress called 'In Defense of. Arrangement. Also 'il grande Virtuoso in Italian but peppered with commentary from many musicologist...purely interesting..
Interesting to see the principal cello seated within easy eye-shot of Zimerman, so that cues can be given. Naturally, Barenboim is a piano-friendly conductor, so I guess that was worked out among them early in the rehearsals.
Hi. Thats a Fantastic performance. As far as I know, this performances includes Liszt´ Faust Symphony. Do you have complete concert? Can you upload it please? Thanks so much. From Mexico.
Zimerman never disappoints. This is so much more a show piece than Concerto No.1. Kharitonov should have played this instead of No. 1 at the Tchaikovsky 2015.
That's interesting as most pianists regard No.1 as the showpiece and the second as a symphonic poem with piano obligato. With regard to the competition, the pianists choose from a list(no pun intended!)of concertos and Liszt 2nd probably wasn't an option. The orchestra has to have the parts and be familiar with the concertos. The Tchaikovsky No.1 is,of course, mandatory. John Ogdon played Liszt No.1 when he was awarded joint First Prize in 1962.😊
@@andrewkennaugh1065 agree, no.2's melodies are as great as no.1's if not better. Nothing wrong with Liszt wanting to be flashy, the concerto isn't created for the purpose of showing off, it is flashy only if u see as flashy I personally enjoy the second concerto more than the first one, the melodies are just so dreamy and sweet, the dream Liszt wishes to paint, ohh I can only imagine how it would look like
Eccelso. Ringrazio di aver postato qst gioiello. Tra l altro cercavo la sua esecuzione per intero dell Andante spianato Polacca brillante op 22 eseguita nella vittoria dello Chopin di Varsavia. Potresti aiutarmi ? ..grazie doppiamente
Can people really be so egotistical that they believe their favorite musicians are also the greatest??? Can’t they see that bias confers nothing but embarrassment to themselves?? Such silliness!
I much prefer the 2nd Liszt piano concerto to the 1st (the 1st sounds a touch vulgar to me). Wonder how Zimmerman must have felt about having a fellow master pianist conducting him in this performance.
This is really interesting.... My personal experience (certainly not most people's!!) of this could not be called 'music'. It's more like exquisite noise. (Referring to the piece, not the brilliant performers.)
Zimerman has the most beautiful technique and posture of any pianist that I have ever seen. I love watching him play.
I agree and I think the same. Thanks.
also greatest hair
Michelangeli
then you had seen so less pianists
@@raffaelesansone8138 Hahaaaahhh

agreed..
Yeeeesssss
He himself said "there is no technique. You put the finger on the key"

Poland gave us two musicians...Chopin and Zimmerman...would that they lived in the same time...maybe they did...
@@timward4227 so true!
Can’t find anybody perform this piece better than Zimerman did. He is the king!
Genialne wykonanie przez obu artystow❤
Outstanding performance. That's a real jewel indeed!

What a combination!😊
El sentimiento que pone al tocar es lo más maravilloso de su música. Es un genio y lo sigue siendo al correr del tiempo.
Thanks for uploading the whole thing

Дякую за раритетний запис!
Best duo in this planet
Looking at Zimerman playing piano is like to witness a Jedi piano performance. Baremboim regal as always.
o.O Marvelous footage!!
thanks so much for uploading
My favourite recording of this concerto is the one by the legendary Cziffra.
I swear I could be watching Liszt himself playing here.

Was this the 100th anniversary concert commemorating Liszt's death?

The secret is in the eyebrow kung-fu. All that stuff he's doing with his hands is just for show.

Well done. But Khatia makes my heart yearn while this makes me follow the notes .
