0:17 - 0:20 Principal theme of the E flat Major Concerto! Ivan Fischer without score! Really amazing!

Imperial playing by Kocsis, as always and precise and tasteful conducting by Fisher, as usual. The nuances and colours of the orchestra are dazzling. My trouble stems from this concerto itself, so lisztian (despite a wagnerian start), meaning alternating genius fulgurating troves and truly pompier Meisterstücke.

1986?? Amazing. Even Richter is not so good in this music. The first oboe began wrong, but the performance is outstanding.

It's even funnier if you knew that Liszt intended that melody as a joke. "Das versteht ihr alle nicht, haha" (none of you understand this) is meant to be sung to the tune.

Never was a big fan of Liszt’s music. Brilliance, dramatic, daring; except in most cases I am not moved. I find my mind and thoughts wandering because what I hear does not engage me. His concepts and themes seem derivative and somewhat contrived but fall below inspirational. They simply do not resonate in my soul after I listen. I suspect it may be that his nature and personality lacked the spiritual depth and breath of say a Chopin, or Schumann who were his contemporaries. This has been my experience since I first heard his first piano concerto close to fifty years ago. Not to disparage him but chiefly a matter of personal taste and musicality. PWG

@Wildboarhunter As you know Chopin was fatally tubercular and depressed from it. Liszt had genius as well, and was a friend to Chopin. Schumann had organic brain syndrome which was mistaken for Bipolar depression time has shown
