They didn't play the rest of damo's comment where he said: Optus was better for watching footy, but MCG is greater for sentiment and tradition. I agree with that.
Well we go to stadiums to watch footy after all. It is the AFL so he has a point. Considering how many tickets actually get sold to the members of the 2 teams and general public the MCG extra seats aren't for the rest of us in a GF. Just saying.
@J G but why does it have to be? Can’t we just enjoy footy? There are enough soccer leagues in the world.
tradition is stupid on purpose. time to modernize the game
I’m born and bred Victoria and I am traditional. I’ll be the first to admit Optus stadium is amazing. It’s modern, it’s big, it’s well designed and for WA its a huge asset. MCG has the history, the soul and the extra 40,000 seats which makes it the biggest in the country. Both are good in their own way
@J G What’s a soccer?
@J G Soccer is popular all around the world because its the easiest sport to play and every man and his dog can play. No skill required. Soccer isnt big here because its boring.
@J G when?
@J G Its not soccer. Its called Football. I agree with Football being the greatest game in the World but Australian Rules Football is a very beautiful game. It is one of the Worlds most exciting games but unfortunatly it is not known World Wide. Btw If you dont like AFL why do you watch AFL related clips...?
thanks legend
from A wa boy
Both correct. As a Victorian that loves the MCG, Optus Stadium (minus the tradition) is a better stadium facility than the MCG.
Ive never been to Optus so I'm just curious. Is it because Optus is the newer stadium so the facilities are better? I think the MCG works nicely though with all the new security measures it is difficult to get in when its a busy game.
Facility but not atmosphere
@@Marcelo-hf5xl yes atmosphere included, Pendles played over here against West Coast in the qualifying final of 2018 and said it was the loudest crowd he’s played in front of, and he’s been a part of many an Anzac Day blockbuster. The difference? When you play Anzac Day you have a relative near 50/50 split of fans… when you’ve got 60,000 cheering for the one team across the whole stadium, you literally feel the wall of noise through your bones.
@@Marcelo-hf5xl the atmosphere is awesome, the stadium feels like a true colosseum, the level of sound is closely similar to Adelaide oval, which is renowned for being extraordinary and energetic. The facilities are so accessible, you almost are never waiting in queues for beer, food or toilets, many times I've been able to grab a beer and be back in my seat in under a minute. It's just so easy to move around, find your seats, entry/exit etc. Really can't rate it high enough
@@russdy1982 that's fair then
In terms of comfort and atmosphere on any regular game, Optus wins. Whether Optus can make up for the tradition and culture the MCG is rich with is another thing. In terms of the experience in finals, they feel equal to me, but we can't fully judge yet as this is the first Optus GF. We'll have a much better idea about what the better venue is in 6 days, but at the end of the day, both stadiums are amazing for vastly different reasons.
For tradition then sure the MCG is better, but in terms of pure viewing experience, you’re naive to think the MCG beats Optus
They should clear out some seats & have 10,000 in a standing room mosh pit for under 25 year olds.. 110,000 at the MCG that Ed make for an epic spectacle on Grand final day.!
that would be so epic
There is a standing are that spans the entire circumference of the stadium.
@@devo6488 Exactly. I think there are 95,000 seats and 5,000 plus change for standing room.
Optus oval looking bloody good these days
"The tradition of giving Victorian teams an advantage in the GF.....you just can't beat it" We all know what you meant Billy.....and the rest of Australia can see right through you and this Vic-centric league. It's a joke. The MCG is a great stadium but the GF stuck there for 30 odd more years is the biggest ruse in footy. So much for a 'level playing field'.
Two finals series in a row without a single game played in Vic. Two grand finals in a row contested by Vic teams. "Home field advantage" is definitely a real thing
stfu, after the past two years, the interstate teams excuses are just utter jokes now. you cant ever complain about "vic bais" after two years in a row outside of victoria and victorian team has won it.
@@spaniardjr7918 Haha
Aww, did we upset you?
@@spateri728 "We" being Victorians? Wow, you do stick together to protect your GF 'entitlement' don't you....silly thing is, I'm Victorian.....just not a stupidly biased one.
I agree with him Optus has been built for the modern era. MCG is dated but you still can’t beat MCG atmosphere as good as Optus stadium is.
Optus has disco lights, plenty of night clubs in and around Melbourne if you want disco lights if we ever get open again. You go to the footy to watch the footy not to watch all the pretty lights. Give it a few years and the MCG will spend money and revamp the G again If Dan lets them make any money again.

have you ever been there? optus is far and away better than the mcg
@@adamlouis3725 yes I have and I have been to 5 x grand finals so it’s based on my experiences. Thanks for chiming in though.
Western Australia is much better than Brisbane anyway of the week western Australians are extremely passionate about Footy
And Cornes tried to tell us a few months ago that Carlton got their choice for #1 in the 2018 draft wrong; rather than Sam Walsh, he said they should have picked Connor Rozee who in his view was a better player. What would that bloke know about anything? Sam Walsh 21 years of age and 4th in the Brownlow with 30 votes. Connor who?
rozee
The point of a stadium is to allow people to view an event in person. The MCG allows for 40,000 more people thats all that matter in the end.
couldnt agree more tham
How many of them are actually members of the 2 teams making the GF?
Yeah im sure if Perth built a stadium that allowed 1 more seat than the MCG all of victoriastan would change its mind.
How many runs did the Don or Punter score at Optus. How many five fors did Warne or Lille take there? How many times have a 120k crammed in to Optus. Case closed I reckon!!
@@dancowza6092 nah mate, that's a case of living in the past
MCG is an ARC of what sport used to be played in, OPTUS is the now and the future.
Great stadium, awful surface. Optus is a hamstring graveyard
How many hammies were done there this year ? Curious
@@leonsteed1243 7-8 if i'm not wrong (one was ACL + hammie)
@swordiexd
So no different to any other surface in Australia hahah
Whatever it’s Perth got grand final footy AFL history love it
MCG is the grand final venue, and the gf should be at daytime
OK dad.
Your living in the past with that kind of mentality. The AFL is a national competition, and every major stadium in every state of Australia deserves to be given a turn at hosting the Grand Final. Don't get your hopes up about it returning to the Saturday afternoon daytime timeslot either. It is almost certain to become a permanent twilight fixture sooner rather than later.
That's BS. I'm Victorian myself and I reckon if a non-Victorian team finishes as Minor Premiers and likewise dominates the Qualifyers and Prelims, it should be allowed to play the GF on its own home ground. And the AFL should've changed to night time GF ages ago anyway so I'm glad they've now been somewhat forced to do so.
Kane as an Adelaide man is actually quite well suited to make such a call.
however Kane, as a hater of everything from Melbourne, isn’t
He's biased
The MCG can only get 17,000 more footy supporters at a game than Optus does, cause 23,000 of the seats at the 'G' are reserved for cricket fans.
Tradition? It's as if people in Victoria don't acknowledge we have been playing this game for upwards of 130 years in WA.
You have your WAFL, if you dont like it watch that. The VFL took the punt in 1982, I dont agree with all they did but they put their balls on the line. He who dares wins.
@@iankearns774 Put their balls on the line??
Mate when West Coast and the Brisbane Bears joined the VFL in 1987 each paying (i think) about $4 million in license fees it saved the league from going under.
The punt you refer to of moving the Swans to Sydney wasnt a win as 5 years later without the 2 new teams there is no league.
The VFL was a basket case at that point, it didnt take a punt it was begging the new teams to join.
The cash injection from the new teams saved half the clubs and good management from that point on saw it become the behemoth it is today.
You can't tell Victorians.. It's why their state is in turmoil atm. Perth and Brisbane are the future. Melbourne and Sydney seen better days
melbourne clubs are dying. hawks and roos looking to jump ship. the whole state is a shambles
optus is sickk
If Optus had at least 80K seats it would be goat status and better than the G.
Nothing beats the mcg
As a West Australian who loves Optus Stadium, nothing is better than the MCG. Everyone loves Optus coz it’s shiny and new but in 10 years time it’s just going to be a standard stadium.
Why is Kane Cornes wrong about everything
You a Victorian?
@@stevemurrell6167 sa
stick another 20,000 seats in it and then maybe it can host the grand finals
optus stadium is nothing more than a giant corporate basket with some pretty lights
You a Victorian?
@@stevemurrell6167 ACT
It was made for WA with supply and demand in mind, 80,000 for home and away games primarily would be serious overkill. It wasn't designed (pre-covid) to host the AFL grand final... The MCG has that locked for 30 more years... judging optus because it can't host the GF with the same quantity of seats as the MCG is just ridiculous. It suits Perth perfectly right now.
literally what the mcg is but without lights lmaooo victorians are a different breed
@@benharding3179 lucky i am not victorian then ;)
once optus has 160 of history and tradition maybe then you can share the grand final
Don’t call it AFL . Call it VFL
Good for you want a medal ?
Stop sooking you big baby, here's a tissue.
And while we're at it let's invite Victorian suburban teams such as Port Melbourne, Williamstown, Werribee, Box Hill, Sandringham, etc. to join the competition. That would truly make it VFL.
the MCG has 40k extra seats and has as firm a grasp on being the home of footy as ever
For once I agree with Kane, who am I 🥲🥲
MCG is the best and there should be no arguments about that
Why not?
@@StuAus because it can fit 100,000 and it’s a tradition
Mcg and the Adelaide Oval have the best surface. Adelaide has more character though and is probably the best sporting venue in Aus

WHY Kane Cornes thinks Optus Stadium is better than the MCG: Proceeds to give ZERO reasons WHY it's better.....?
beacause kane wants a job at afl HQ thats why
I go to the G all the time, and absolutely reject it’s not the best stadium to watch a game. What BS!
Have you been to Optus tho? I’ve been to both and Optus is so much nicer.
Yeh I’m a West Aussie… I will never concede anything to the Vics… I am openly blatantly bias…. But I’m being honest… the MCG is the best ground (even though I love our Optus). You gotta put tribalism aside with facts. Part of me hates myself for hating this 😂 but everyone will not agree on every issue.
Find me a member of the sporting public who listens to Kane Cornes opinions. No one.
When other states build stadiums with 100k+ capacity - then we'll talk. I'm not gonna miss my team's GF just because there aren't enough tickets. Yeah nah m8.
Who's your team?
so if optus got expanded to 110k capacity you would agree is better than the mcg?
Tradition. Pfft these mongs are just stuck in the past.
Adelaide Oval no. 1, Optus no. 2, SCG no. 3, MCG no. 4
Never talk about football again please u know nothing
SCG is the worst footy ground period
I almost threw up when I saw this

Remember when Kane Cornes wasn't a flog.... yeah me either
honesty could not care less about a light show and the special screens at Optus just want to watch the footy. MCG has more tradition, has a higher capacity and a better atmosphere. Although Optus is a very nice and modern stadium I prefer the look of Adelaide oval it has a mix modern and traditional features to the ground which is better than any light show.
I don’t like the bars around the bottom, prison stadium.
I'm from Perth and I can agree on that one
Optus stadium… Optus oval… hehe
WNO way MCG is much better seating to steep players looked like ants could not identify the players only buy foot movement could only see houlis beard
Why nobody asked what Kane Cornes thought.
It isn’t
Bruh
There’s nothing that Optus has over mcg
LED lighting all around. Inside & out. Does the MCG hve that? 🤔
Optus doesn't have 23,000 seats reserved for cricket fans at every footy game.
Get off your high horse Kane. MCG is the best stadium in Australia
Cornes looking anorexic I hope hes eating enough
Can't stand kane cornes
Fix the ground first, it won't ever be a better stadium them my local footy team with that field
The MCG is the greatest stadium on Earth, while Optus Stadium is a $2 billion BULL RING🤣🤣🤣🤣
Coz he's trying to distance himself from his own stupid comments..... with more of his own stupid comments.
MCG is falling apart. The distance from the field to the last seats are the length of the Flemington straight. If you're higher than 2nd tier you may as well be at home.
