i had massive hair loss last year. I went to endocrinologist and from my blood work she diagnose insulin resistance, low ferritin and low vit D3. it is better now thankfully 🙂

I don't know honestly , i was experiencing some minor symptoms of diabetes, ( i drink and eat a lot of sugar) . That's why i checked my blood. And it was okay. However, now i am losing hair. Planning to visit doctor and thyroid hormones next weeks. Is insulin resistance reversable for you?
Dude I used to visit my endocrinologist every year for bloodwork and they never ever told me what they found in my blood tests whether it was good or bad.i just knew absolutely nothing about my health. I was young (around 14-17) when I went to these appointments. Started experiencing hair loss at 17. It’s so frustrating. Was my doctor supposed to tell me or what? I’m very sure they couldcd caught something. I also have weird acne issues
In July 2022 I started with strange looking sores on my scalp that were very painful, itchy, scaly, and would sometimes bleed. In addition, where every sore was my hair would just fall out...I could run my hands through my hair and get handfuls of hair. I went to a Dermatologist who did a punch biopsy and I was diagnosed with Scarring Alopecia secondary to Lichen Planopilaris. My hair will never grow back since the scarring destroys the hair follicle. I am now completely bald and having a lot of fun wearing wigs and saving a lot of money on shampoo & conditioner...hey, you have to find the bright side of things like this, at least in my opinion anyway.
@user-kc7mu4jp4p You're welcome 😊 Unfortunately, the cause is unknown, but we do know it's an autoimmune condition (I already have a few autoimmune conditions). Since it's an autoimmune disorder/disease, it will never go away, but it can go into remission. I have been suffering from this disease, and the symptoms of it, for 1 year now.
Some things that have helped to control my hairfall include: (1) I discontinued wearing hair ties because it causes tension damage. (2) I started massaging my hair and scalp 2 times a week with liitleextra cocoonnion hair oil while leaning forward & holding my head inverted to allow blood flow to the scalp. (3) Protecting my head while moving out to protect my hair from dust and pollution. (4) Using gentle shampoo again from liittleextra only to cleanse my hair.
I’m 2 1/2 months out from recovering from being in a coma from full anaphylactic shock…. And my hair is just falling out in clumps! Am so glad that it’s not just me. But I will mention it to my doc next time. I love your science videos. They are so helpful. Thank you for doing them.
Got diagnosed with Celiac disease and had an iron level of 3! I was incredibly tired and did not feel well at all. I was an adolescent at the time, so my doctors wouldn't allow me to get a transfusion. I battled low iron for several years until my gut healed. Slow process, but I'm MUCH better.
Gut health is so important! That is another thing. With hair loss it can be an auto-immune response to so cutting out wheat and sugar TOTALLY is super important if that is the case.
My daughter was just diagnosed w Hypothyroidism. She’s 20 and had been having lots of hair loss for awhile every time she brushed her hair. I honestly first thought it was from all the box hair dyes she was doing but after several other symptoms we had her thyroid checked and sure enough! She’s been on Synthroid for a month now and has noticed a big difference already! Thx for this video! Very informative!
I had hair loss from hyperthyroid, and basically stopped when I took my prescription; however, B2 really helped with my hair and nails as well, but it made me nauseous.
I can identify with extreme hair loss due to iron deficiency. Only my doc didn't believe me that i had hair loss. It took my hairdresser telling me to insist on testing for an iron deficiency for me to be diagnosed and treated with intravenous iron infusions...
@@strugglingcollegestudent I know it should be, lets just say I don't see that doctor any more. I was a teenager at the time and he was convinced I was just looking for attention. Thankfully my mom believed me and forced the issue.
@@rebekah9580-- I have had iron deficiency anemia since I was born and received a couple transfusions over my 65+ years. Just got my DNA health and it proved low iron, low b12 and low zinc in my gene makeup, all of which are needed for good hair growth. The thing is, my blood work all are in normal range so my doctors say it's normal, however, you need to pay attention to whether it is in the low or high end of your results scale. Vit C is needed to absorb iron so that also must be normal.
Thank you so much for explaining TE! I had big surgeries in 2020 3 months apart and was losing so much hair. The surgeons and doctors were really dismissive of my concerns and if they could've just taken literally 2 minutes to address my concerns and assure me that it was mostl likely a temporary thing it really would've lowered my stress levels. Hair is super full and back in action now. :)
I totally agree, most doctors I've seen are dismissive. Like my GP who failed to actually ask me the pertinent questions for the return to work form. Most importantly, that there ARE restrictions to one of the tasks I can't do, it's not noted.
@@ViolinMD-- Major stress events will do it as well for sure (ex: job loss, deaths of family and friends, reduced income, surgeries or injuries with inflammatory pain, medications, etc.)
Yes! I was in the ICU for 3 weeks with Covid, double pneumonia, sepsis, and ARDS. None of my doctors told me about telogen effluvium and just as I was starting to get over the ICU trauma, my hair started falling out. I lost SO MUCH!!!
Same here! My hair is very long so it looked like so much, more than handfuls. Like the size of a football every day. I was traumatized again. Covid was horrible. I hope you’re doing much better, and your hair is full again. Mind is. Whew!
I cannot thank you enough for mentioning post-immunization TE! I had a very strong immune reaction to the C19 vaccine, and three months later my hair was falling out in clumps. I lost over 50% of my hair in 6 weeks and was terrified it was permanent. No doctor I spoke to (then or since) has agreed with my theory that it may have been caused by the shock to my immune system, so I've been concerned that whatever caused my hair loss may return. But this video gave me a huuuuge sigh of relief!
@queenofcrows -- We all live with our bodies 24/7, far more than what the doctor can evaluate. If your intuition said COVID-19 was the cause than it was. They have figured that that vaccine caused many issues for many people. Many doctors don't know enough nutrition to pick up on vit & mineral deficiencies. I find my drs just blow me off if you can tell they don't know the answer. They could say, I don't get that question often, but I will research it and get back with you on my answer.
@@kathyverrelli5170 I have never believed my reaction was caused by Covid-19, nor that it was caused by that specific vaccine. It appears to have been caused by the simple act of getting a vaccine for a novel virus (regardless of which virus it is). A few months of temporary bodily changes (such as hair loss, menstrual disruption, or skin changes) is common after the body goes through a medical upheaval such as a major illness or injury, or an immunization. It's normal and common - scary at first, but nothing to worry about. Several of my friends also experienced massive hair loss 2-3 months after their second C19 vaccinations. All of our hair has since completely grown back, and we've experienced no problems after any subsequent C19 booster shots.
My husky was diagnosed as zinc deficient due to hair loss (they had suspected cushings first (my thought was an adrenal or thyroid tumor), but his bloodwork was clean). It turns out he had late stage cancer (they assume liver or stomach) which they were unable to diagnose until it was way too late. I lost him suddenly, a month after the hair loss started. I've also seen hair loss in pets with allergies, stress, mites and even from an ovarian cyst (from working at an animal shelter). I'm just saying it's something to look out for in pets too and to always take it seriously. Animal medicine can be surprisingly similar to human medicine. We often even prescribe the same medications like prednisone.
You are infinitely more helpful than ANY of the specialists I've seen. The rheumatologist was flakier than mom's apple pie crust. My GP is inept. I take gabapentin for a nerve condition. Hair loss is not listed as an effect. As for PCOS, my hair on my head was lush and thick. It thinned out when Type 2 set in.
I got the bad hair loss after I got the rona in july of 2020. I am good now but it was scary how much was coming out. Then i found a nytimes article and it put me at ease.
Severe vitamin D defiency caused mine I filled up my paddle brush from pad to tip every time I brushed hair and the amount of hair that came out during hair washing was terrifying. just running my fingers through hair resulted in a handful of hair. three weeks of prescription high dose vitamin D and the difference is amazing hair loss is almost back to normal and the bone pain is almost gone. Found this video so interesting
I think i have to figure out the reason for my hair loss on my own. I have gone to multiple specialists and none of them can tell me with certainty what it is. It started when I was in the 6th grade and over time has gotten worse. My hair is very thin and you can see my scalp at the front and sometimes in the back. We did tests for PCOS, thyroid, hormones, and then they always come to the same conclusion…it’s genetic. But no one in my family has this issue. It’s very upsetting because it seems no one wants to figure out the real cause. Usually they default to “try minoxidil” and brush it off, but it’s become incredibly clear I have to do my own research and ask for tests. Thank you, this gives me more issues to consider. I have anemia and have had an anxiety disorder that was just diagnosed. I think those two are part of the reason I’ve always had thinning hair. I will keep investigating though.
I also have anemia and have been experiencing hair loss from a very young age (5 years old or so). I have always thought that was part of the reason my hair kept falling out.
I had anorexia. So yeah my hair, teeth and nails were miserable. Please get help if you do suffer from anorexia. Don’t wait!! You will never feel sick enough and you will only regret everything you have done to your body. Thank you for your video!!
First off... wonderful video, very interesting. I've had some intermittent mild hair loss over the past couple years but no clear diagnosis yet. That said, it cannot be overstated how simply stunning and infectious your smile is and the shear radiance you project. While I feel sorry for anyone suffering an illness I know having you as a doctor would be a bright point on any patient's day.
please keeping more of these videos!! I'm going to nursing, and I'm understanding what I'm looking at more and more. I can see what to look for when it comes to possible signs of disease. Thank you so much for your content.
I was ill for a very long time and had many neurosurgeries, I noticed small round patches of bald spots in different places all over my head. Spoke to my doctors about it and it turns out it may have been due to the surgical equipment used to stabilise my head for brain surgery! It's grown back now :)
Hello! I am a 69 year old lady. I noticed hair loss around Oct.,22..... I also have RA, for over 30 years. I have been on Methotrexate for almost that long. Also, I was on Leuflonimde . Was told it was probably from the Methotrexate..Since stopping, my hair is getting back to normal! Thank goodness my RA is not a problem. No flares. I was also told to try Rogaine, and take the supplement Nutrafol Womens Balance. I thought, ya, right. supplements. But in truth, since taking them, I feel energetic and better than I have in years! Who knew!. Glad you are back! P.S. I also am hypothyroid, which is managed by meds. Had thyroid nodules removed in 1973. Also, Hashimoto's... LOL...and I also have the enevitable female pattern thinning on the back of my head! I call it the old lady look of bed head!
I remember being in the hosp. for asthma many times but this one time a doctor came in and started feeling my hair . He did that and told me I had been sick for a very long time. That was interesting . I was so used to have breathing problems I did not give the matter much thought. Anyway I am still here so the treatments worked
I’m a doctor (retired) and I went to the same hairdresser for over 20 years. At one visit she examined my hair and said that I must have had a lot of stress in the past month. She was right!
This is an excellent explanation for "mysterious" hair loss. I'm 78 and while my hair was continuing to grow length, it became progressively thinner through the years and many hairs would come out in the brush and shower. Then three months after major emergency surgery (not cancer related), nearly all of my long hair fell out. I began taking Viviscal while it was still shedding and it worked so well almost immediately to stop the shedding that I had to cut off the long hair that was still on my head to even everything out. Next my primary doctor did blood tests and prescribed iron tablets. My thin hair is filling in all over my head and I feel great as well.
When I had a severe sore throat for over a month last year I was concerned and went to multiple doctors and one of them actually mentioned it could possibly be syphilis in the throat! 🤯🤯 It wasn’t, but that was the first time I heard that Syphilis could imitate nearly any illness. And now you mentioned it and I’m still mind blown.
@@bigred9428 I think it was just that it was extremely sore for so long with no sign of getting better. I had been abstinent for 6 years at the time, so I knew it wasn’t that as soon as they suggested it.
I've been worried about my hair thinning for a while, so when you started listing other symptoms that I have plus a genetic disease that runs in my family, it answered a lot of questions. I'm going to get tested asap! Thank you, Doctor Siobhan!
Thank you so much for doing a video like this you are truly doing gods work out here. I lost 75% of my hair and it was devastating as a girl and I was so desperate for answers and this video was very helpful and I’m sure it will be for a lot of people who are going through similar situations.
I had one bald spot a year ago. I went to the dermatologist and they put some kind of treatment on it (can’t remember the name.) They only did the treatment once and It took a few months but now you can hardly tell where the bald spot was. My hair has grown back and I’m so happy.
Dr. Siobhan, thank you so much for explaining in such detail about hair loss. ALso, the case vignettes used helpled even more in getting a better grip of the topic!
I didn't even know TE was a thing! Bur about 3 months after covid (+ a long ongoing battle with Ling covid) I lost all of my hair! Now after growing my hair for 9 months it is 4 inches long! Thanks for helping me figure out what it was! ❤
What's the name of the gut bacteria that produces biotin? Do you know which antibiotics knock off that particular bacteria? Do you supplement your patients when you prescribe those antibiotics?
I reduced the amount of times I wash my hair per week.. It’s wavy/curly so less oily/frizzy with less washes. Unfortunately now, it’s harder to decipher what’s normal! Thanks for explaining some causes!
Expert hairdressers have told me that hair should be washed only once or twice weekly. More frequent washing removes too much natural oil and disturbs the chemical balance of the hair. The culture of daily hair washing was cultivated by the shampoo manufacturers.
Doctor. She went through many years of higher education and internship and residency. Influencers are generally just high school educated people that act like they know something.
Wow, what a rich video Dr. Siobhan, this is one that I'll have to watch sometimes and probably take notes! The avidin/biotin affinity was used for cancer therapy in the 90's.
My hair had thinned out over the years and I noticed as I got older that whenever I would take it out of braids, I would notice a lot of it be come out in the comb. Something that has not occurred when I was younger and along with menopause and battling Cystic Fibrosis I accepted that perhaps this was just the way it was. In April 2024 I was told I had developed pre-diabetes. I did some research and found that it could be put into remission by intermittent fasting. I did intermittent fasting 12:8 x 5 days a week.1 x 24 hour fast and one day of eating as normal for about two months. I increased my water consumption. Drinking 1 to 2L of water a day with Chia seeds, apple cider vinegar, lemon, and a pinch of Himalayan salt. I began to eat more vegetables and quinoa and ditched the rice and other carbohydrates. I did a bit of exercise. Quite shockingly, My thinning hair grew out of my head very thick. My hairdresser who has been doing my hair for over 15 years and I were astonished. We believe it’s probably the human growth hormone. IF also reduce the inflammation in my body so that I don’t experience shortness of breath or chest tightness as much as I used to and my rescue inhaler has become more or less redundant. I also don’t need to take TRIKAFTA on a regular basis. 🇨🇦
Loved the photos from the Waikato district health board as someone who lived there for 3 years ❤ also thank you for talking about trichotillomania! It can also look like missing eyebrows or eyelashes too which is what my problem is 😅
Wow this video is so well timed! I just got outta the shower with tears streaming down my face because every time I wash my hair, I lose HANDFULS of hair! It's been 15 months since I gave birth & 16 months since I had COVID & I can't understand why I'm STILL losing so much of my hair 😭 It used to be so thick & full... not anymore!
I haven't had a baby or covid, but my waist length hair has been falling out for 2 solid years. My family Dr shrugs, and won't even do blood work here in Canada. It's awful
I'm also going through the same thing yrs later it's coming out and it doesn't stop. A Hairmax comb is all that has helped my hair. If I don't use it; the hair comes out again.😢
So, Siobhan, if we're in our latter 60s, is hair loss not normal? Granted, I've had a shock about a year and some months ago, but it seems unfair to be undergoing this. I'm talking about an emotional shock: being abandoned by a partner, causing huge changes in my life and expectations.
I was pregnant with twins in 2018, started medical school in 2020, and the global pandemic all caused me to lose massive chunks of hair. Luckily, I'm in a better emotional space and my hair has started filling back in.
Both men and women can suffer from androgenic alopecia if their hair follicles are sensitive to Dihydrotestosterone (not testosterone). Female pattern hairloss is simply diffuse thinning, whereas male pattern balding is more localized to temple area and vertex. Both have the same culprit, and both genders can experience the opposite pattern hairloss.
Thank you so much for the information and the positive delivery. I had a severe infection like exactly 2 months ago, maybe that gives a clue about the current sudden and scary hair loss. Was comforting to hear that it is temporary, and the new hairs are in the process of growing. However, if it gets worse, I’ll still see a doctor to see if there are more solutions other that just waiting. Thanks again!! 😊😊
I have hypothyroidism and have been on the correct medication for years, as well as taking a multivitamin each day. However, my hair is constantly falling out of my head, and I'm constantly tired. All my blood tests come back normal, no defincies or low levels of anything. I just wish the tiredness would go away.
There’s a deeper iron bloodwork test they can do & don’t know why they don’t just do it automatically but mine was normal & then with the more detailed iron bloodwork they found extremely low iron. Hair loss, ice chewing & extreme tiredness were symptoms
I just went through telogen effluvium. My doc said exactly what you just did - it comes from a shock to the system. For me, it was a medication I started. The whole ordeal lasted several months but I was freaking out at first. My hair is baby fine to begin with. I can't afford to lose a bunch of it. LOL With a little help from Biotin pills and some Rogaine it has mostly come back.
This is also Hormonal too. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the androgen that is our main focus here, and pattern baldness is common in males whose blood DHT level are high.
this is such a helpful and detailed video. I have recently started to use Anevya's ban the fall, its been 5 months now and i see huge reduction in hair fall

I have folliculitus decalvans which seems similar to the first allopecia case you saw based on my 10+ years having it. The only thing that actually worked for me believe it or not was accutane. I've never had acne luckily on my face or anything, but it seems to have stopped the bumps in the same way on my scalp.
I stumbled across your videos last week at a dental clinic (thank you autoplay, lol) and am hooked. I'm a medical zebra and was curious if you could do a video on medical zebras.
I got my hair cut short recently and noticed a balding patch on the left side of my hair that has thinner white hairs. The rest of my head hair is a bit thicker and nearly black, and it could be alopecia. I never noticed it because I keep the sides of my hair longer and the longer hairs were probably covering it. For years I haven't been able to grow a beard as it comes in patchy and only one side of my moustache would grow, the other side doesn't and only grows sparse, not really visible white hairs. I have had blood tests and done a number of times, including recently and they didn't show any issues. I am going going to contact my doctor and find out about this and see if I can get it sorted out.
@Violin MD A very important video to watch, simple, straight to the facts. I am interested to see your video on flaky skin since after turning 55, I have flaky , dry, red skin around the hairline and neck, thanks hormones.
so interesting! thanks for the super cool video Siobahn . My mum had super thinning hair that started thinning after menopause, and my nephew's started getting male pattern hair loss in his 20's - so we figured it was my mum's influence , but it's interesting to know that's not true that it comes from the female side - i'm sure they were telling us that as late as my biology classes in university in the early 90s 🙂
I have systemic lupus. I used to have thick hair but in my mid 30s it started thinning. Now that im almost 40yrs old, my hair is sooo thin. Every time i shampoo i have so much hair falling out, i spend half my time in the shower picking the fallen hairs off my body! It is soo aggravating! I dont know if its the lupus itself or the steroids i take that causes it. Im down to a fairly low maintenance dose now so im hoping my hair loss reverses!🤞
I had Beau's lines when I had an Amniotic Fluid Embolism in 2009 when my son was born. I survived and ended up having a hemorrhagic stroke in my frontal lobe as well. I had to learn to walk again. I think I'm doing pretty well considering what happened. My son is completely fine. He's now a cranky 13 year old. 🤣
Violin, I've had burning scalp syndrome for a few years now. It is a horrible and very painful condition that doctors know very little or nothing about. My life has totally changed and I feel I have no hope. D you know anything about burning scalp. I would appreciate a video on this subject and would be soooo grateful 💓
I have a male pattern hair loss. Went to a dermatologist, had a biopsy done couldn't find what's wrong. Went to an endocrinologist couldn't find what's wrong with me. So I give up and start wearing a wig. I have a vitamin D deficiency so about all the symptoms you mentioned for iron deficiency anemia I already had them due to the vitamin D deficiency. So whenever the symptoms start to bother me I just take some over the counter supplements and it goes away. Later on I start having heavy peroid all the symptoms of iron deficiency are there but when I took the vitamin D it didn't improve like it normally does so I decided to go see my PCP. After some lab work I was anemic. Then they investigate it was my multiple Uterine fibroid that was causing those problems. I had a myomectomy and now my hair is growing back slowly. Personally I think my uterine fibroids were the cause of my hair loss. I was diagnosed with them in my 20 but they were small and didn't bother me. My doctor then told I can remove them but there is a chance that they will grow back so I decided to leave them alone. So Doc what do you think about my hypothesis.
I'm suffering right now from small areas of hair loss. I had bought and used a special shampoo for my scalp. My hair is growing back and I've got stubble all over my head. Is this possible from medicated shampoo??
Hi sweet Siobhan, I have had alopecia areata since 2017. Lost ever hair I had. Body hair included. Eyebrows, eyelashes. The lot. Dint smoke, don't drink too much. I had injections and mine spread. I had to treat myself at home too with dithrocream. Eat well. Hair is like a plant. Eat a good diet and drink plenty of water 💦. Don't dye your hair. Mine all grew back.
this was very informative, thank you. would it be possible to do a video on, what dr. to see for what? i find it highly confusing with so many different kinds of specialists
As a retired doctor (I was a specialist) I’ll give you my two cents. You need a primary healthcare provider, be it a family physician or nurse practitioner with training in family medicine. They are generalists and can refer you to the appropriate specialist, if one is needed. In most countries outside the US, specialists will not see patients without a referral unless it’s an emergency.
Could you do a educational video on systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) w marophage activation syndrome (MAS) and long term outcomes/treatments please?
A test done a few years ago showed that I had a fair amount of gadolinium in me. (The medical world calls it a contrast dye) Then I took a zinc supplement once and my hair came out almost in clumps. I waited a week and the second time I took a zinc supplement, more hair fell out. I discovered the hair loss was due to transmetalation.
@@vida3123 The test is called a Urine Element Analysis. Obviously a urine test. The test was prescribed by my Naturopathic Doctor. I gave a urine sample at my local lab and they sent it to a different Province to analyse it. When I had an angiogram done at a hospital, they gave me Gd and they called it a contrast dye. Your body is supposed to pee it out within 24 hours but that didn't happen for me. It also didn't work that way for Chuck Norris' wife when she had an MRI. She was far worse than I was. You can google Chuck Norris and gadolinium to find out what happened to her. BTW, I've also read that when patients do pee out heavy metal, it ends up polluting your municipal water system.
Was this test done after chelation therapy (provocative test)? Do you remember your levels? You have to watch those naturopathic doctors. They want you to do chelation therapy until they drain your bank account and add it to theirs.
I did a water fast for the month of January 2023, and I started losing my hair in February and it lasted a couple of months. It was so bad that I had to clean out the drain after every shower. It has yet to start to grow back.

But I fixed in after 6 months of using minoxidil and finasteride that I have to take everyday for the rest of my life or for as long as I want hair. Sucks but it is what it is at least I got my hair back.
Hi Dr. Siobhan, it's good to watch a new video from you! May I suggest some names of brazilian singers and bands, I think you will like to listen to these: ( just copy and paste by UA-cam to find some of the songs, if you like ). Roupa Nova / 14 bis / Roberto Carlos / Tom Jobim ( Tom created Bossa Nova, that some called the Brazilian jazz ). I'm going to watch your video now. Have a great weekend! :-)
Yup, male pattern hairloss and heart problems run in the family. I started losing my hair in college, although some told me it looked thin on top in high school. Then I started HTN meds in my mid 20s. My crown was hairless before 30 and my life was basically over with no hope of ever getting married. Although I didn't die until my mid 40s. They brought me back to life with advanced tech. Now, if only they can bring my hair back, then maybe I'll find a reason for being here.
I’m so sorry you have gone through all this. It is so sad when we genetically inherit things that cannot be fixed. I hope you find a lovely girl someday to marry.

(3) Protecting my head while moving out to protect my hair from dust and pollution. (4) Using gentle shampoo again from liittleextra only to cleanse my hair.
coconnion shampoo oil did wonders for mine hair fall control.

Do you know about an iron infusion? Ask your doctor. I'm sure teenagers can have one. It's not blood transfusion.
Gut health is so important! That is another thing. With hair loss it can be an auto-immune response to so cutting out wheat and sugar TOTALLY is super important if that is the case.
@@heatherfernandez2600And be sure to get enough vit c as you need it to absorb any iron.
So happy to hear she got to the bottom of it and is already seeing a difference!
I had hair loss from hyperthyroid, and basically stopped when I took my prescription; however, B2 really helped with my hair and nails as well, but it made me nauseous.
@@ViolinMD hey I have hair loss I don’t know what’s causing it. I have anxiety so that makes me worse
I can identify with extreme hair loss due to iron deficiency. Only my doc didn't believe me that i had hair loss. It took my hairdresser telling me to insist on testing for an iron deficiency for me to be diagnosed and treated with intravenous iron infusions...
Curious why didn’t your doctor order a blood test? Seems like a pretty routine thing
Sorry to hear that… yes that kind of hair loss can really add to an already stressful time! Glad you’ve recovered!!
Mind is. Whew!
Hope you are OK. I had a similar experience. So crazy
So sorry you had to go through it! I hope your health and hair are doing well now 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I never had Covid but I was in the ICU after major emergency surgery and nearly all of my long hair fell out too.
@ I’m sorry!
If you are vegetarian or vegan the reason is known, but if not, keep searching.

First off... wonderful video, very interesting. I've had some intermittent mild hair loss over the past couple years but no clear diagnosis yet. That said, it cannot be overstated how simply stunning and infectious your smile is and the shear radiance you project.
Thanks for explaining this! I lost over 50 percent of my hair about 3 months post op and it began growing back around 6-9 months post op.
@carolmerlini9971 -- So glad to hear everything is working well for you.

I wonder what made them even think of that?
@@bigred9428 I think it was just that it was extremely sore for so long with no sign of getting better. I had been abstinent for 6 years at the time, so I knew it wasn’t that as soon as they suggested it.
I've been worried about my hair thinning for a while, so when you started listing other symptoms that I have plus a genetic disease that runs in my family, it answered a lot of questions. I'm going to get tested asap! Thank you, Doctor Siobhan!

Wow this video is so well timed! I just got outta the shower with tears streaming down my face because every time I wash my hair, I lose HANDFULS of hair!
Both of those cause MAJOR hair loss-baby=hormones & covid=common side effects
Happy to be helping people
So, Siobhan, if we're in our latter 60s, is hair loss not normal?
We just learned a little bit of this in cosmetology school!
I suspected discoid lupus in a patient and called for a consult and it turned out i was correct.
Thanks for this - I lost a ton of hair after a crash diet. Nice to hear this possibility mentioned.
I have hypothyroidism and have been on the correct medication for years, as well as taking a multivitamin each day. However, my hair is constantly falling out of my head, and I'm constantly tired. All my blood tests come back normal, no defincies or low levels of anything. I just wish the tiredness would go away.
Try Lugohls iodine, my hair never grew beyond my shoulders, now a year later, over six inches below shoulder length.

Was it briviact..im losing hair
I got my hair cut short recently and noticed a balding patch on the left side of my hair that has thinner white hairs. The rest of my head hair is a bit thicker and nearly black, and it could be alopecia. I never noticed it because I keep the sides of my hair longer and the longer hairs were probably covering it. For years I haven't been able to grow a beard as it comes in patchy and only one side of my moustache would grow, the other side doesn't and only grows sparse, not really visible white hairs. I have had blood tests and done a number of times, including recently and they didn't show any issues. I am going going to contact my doctor and find out about this and see if I can get it sorted out.

so interesting! thanks for the super cool video Siobahn .

I have those ridges on my toenails along with other symptoms you discussed. Is it just finger nails associated or can it be toes as well?
Your videos are awesome thanks for these wonderful tips 🙏🙏❤️❤️😍😍

this was very informative, thank you. would it be possible to do a video on, what dr. to see for what? i find it highly confusing with so many different kinds of specialists

Is there a blood test for gadolinium levels? Please could you let me know what the test you had was?
@@BringItOn31124 I have never had chelation therapy. I looked for the report and I can't find it right now.

Hi Dr. Siobhan, it's good to watch a new video from you! May I suggest some names of brazilian singers and bands, I think you will like to listen to these: ( just copy and paste by UA-cam to find some of the songs, if you like ). Accutane made hair loss in my teenager. What will help it falling out so much?
Your voice/speech kinda reminds me NPR's Korva Coleman.
That why I never again use dye I’m totally grey and I love it
I’m 40 and have been on and off ferrous sulphate since my 20s. I also had a 3 pint transfusion due to blood lose during childbirth! I've noticed I lose way more hair on the second or third day after washing my hair. Do you by any chance know what can be the reason?
