I know some disability residential care homes in NZ rely on private funding instead of relying on the government

As a parent of a disabled person what spending. We asked for help for our child and was told we did not qualify for a bathroom make over. We were also told with some pride that in our area their had been no bathroom alterations done at least 20 years. Is that going to change under this new system. I think not just an other cost cutting exercise aimed at those with no power or resources to complain.

What a joke this minister is! They are using the same excuse for all their cut backs. Save money by reviewing costs, consolidate spendurture and amalgamate services. Rubbish absolute rubbish.

Three coalition parties none of which has an articulated strategy on disability. The report was an administrative and financial control review. It is not a review of the adequacy or not of the support provided to the disabled. Nor does it look include a look at equity. I dont know is any of the review panel deals with disability directly. But as with all disability issues tied to government support my expectations are low.
Whaikaha has been neutered and given meaningless advocscy roles with no say in issues that effect the daily lives of disabled people. Advising government departments on disability is boardering on a futile waste of time.
And in the mean time the provision of services will remain poor but the accounting will no doubt be tidied up.
