Recently I heard a quote attributed to Hbox: "It's more important to be able to hit simple stuff under high pressure than complex stuff under medium pressure" I think about that a lot now in terms of improvement and what makes a good player. People rag on him for "not practicing", but he enters tons of events and seems to put a lot of pressure on himself (while maybe exaggerated theatrically, I believe the emotion behind his popoffs, even mid set or against worse opponents, is absolutely real). It's a skill a lot of midlevel grinders underrate.
These days there are online brackets that you can enter almost every day as well. Even if they are free brackets the tourney set experience is really valuable I think.
improved a ton over the quarantine era, but I was a nervous wreck at my locals. I would body someone in friendlies and later on choke a set against them in bracket. Playing in online tournaments has improved my tourney nerves a lot even tho I hate playing online
I convinced my eSports league for my school to do crew battles at our last tournament ^^ they really liked it! I really miss teams in crew battles, I think it really does change things when your fighting not only for yourself but also your team
That's really cool. Totally. Crew battles also build comradery, I feel so compelled to root for my teammates. Every crew battle has always been a positive experience for me.
Never will forget the unique pressure I felt playing a Luigi on stream during a major, I definitely had matchup advantage but when you're up on a stage it completely changes the way you make decisions. I got whooped, and it was a moment that'll stick with me for sure. Glad it happened the way it did.
Yea it's unexpected, you dont really feel the stress of it once you're actually in the moment. If I were you I might feel more confident vs luigi when its not on stream because your past experience might have leveled you up.
Crews really crank up the pressure particularly by having each stock count. In a regular match, if you're up 3 stocks to 1 and you SD, it's no big deal. In crews, every stock matters, and those stocks can snowball into a counterpick advantage to win the set.
Hey just some advice video wise, you have a great voice and this video is well thought out, but you should definitely try to edit your sentences so that your voice flows better. It can get a bit slow at times and cutting up your audio a few sentences/thoughts at a time would like make the overall video much smoother!
Thank you so much. I'm a newbie when it comes to content creation like this so any help is appreciated. Noted. I'll make sure to apply this in my future videos.
my secret is to get so high i start panicking then i have no choice but to put every ounce of focus into the game, the most consistent way to get into flow ive found
Initially it's fine, but depends on the skill of players in the rotation. If one player is clearly way better than the others then winner stays is kinda lame, rather do bo3 random stage sets so the others get to play more. But if players are all roughly similar skill then It's fun to try hard just so that you can play another game.

Absolutely. 100% I agree with hbox, and he is a good competitor and players like him understand that mindset. Thx for your input.

There concepts are so bare within the smash community, I'm glad you touched up on this subject. Good quote btw.

@@ssbmAndy I do! I never quit out on luigi's on unranked because of it, very vindicating lol
Pressure makes diamonds my guy
"losers finals", oh how you humble me
pressure makes diamonds
subscribed because the video started with samus, keep it up
I'll always be a samus main by heart...I just use the other characters.
Wait are you one of the Samus players from the Seattle area? I feel like we met a few years ago but maybe I'm thinking of a different guy
Honestly? Very likely. I'm WA's resident purple samus.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it was 2019 emerald city
I deadass thought this video was going to be soundbits from melee playing under pressure by queen
Ha... "Pushing down on me, pressing down on you..." *head bangs*
pressure is good for improvement, but man does it feel shitty to lose after putting pressure on yourself
Yeah def. Gotta be easy on yourself at the same time.
It doesn't have to. Self-talk can help you change your mindset so you don't feel like a failure every time you don't meet a certain goal
i think it's pressure makes diamonds
This was a great video. Subscribed!
I will simply always lose my first tourney match so I’m always playing from losers for the extra pressure
It wouldn't be the dream fairytale loser's run if you didn't start 0-1.

Yesss 100%

Great vid. Do you think winners stays should be standard?

Great video as always my guy
Thank you Paul
Good vid!
I do crew battles every week at nightclub for this reason its my secret way of giving people training
Oh that is so sick. You're doing great work. So glad that format isn't going extinct and at nightclub Im sure those crews get sweaty.
Damn bro! Lotta views in just a day! Andy bout to blow up?!
Bro not even being sarcastic... I genuinely have no clue why this vid got this many views so fast idk.
