Well we can't say, but the drummer Narada Michael Walden was a very young virtuoso already in the '70s and became a producer in the late '80s &+. I read an interview where he was saying there wasn't much challenge anymore in drumming so he got into new professional spheres and cultivated new talents where he could feel himself challenged.
One word, Prodigy. In fact, even Al DiMeloa, another prodigy is blown away by Matteo. We are fortunate to be experiencing the growth of this incredible musician!
My apologies for commenting twice but i have to say seeing the clip of Matteo and the other prodigy plus Rick interviewing will be a clip to see for ages! Matteo comes off so humble and warm hearted in the way he talks. God Bless them all!
From the 70’s onwards some of my guitar idols included John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Lee Ritenour to name a small sample. Matteo Mancuso is such a sweet tasteful player and virtuoso in ways unimaginable back then. As an old guy I marvel at the way online availability of a huge selection of videos both performance and teaching. All that prior classical training has been used to good effect. He really combines styles well. What a great ear. And everything he plays is so tasty, even scales.
Woah, love that technique. I play with my fingers as well. Currently I'm trying to compromise and develop technique to where i can use a pick but also my other 3 fingers. Part of me likes using just my fingers though
@@philsarkol6443 hahaha I can’t do it perfectly yet, but just keep practicing slowly over a ii V I or something and you will discover many ways to use it
I love that he's not into the theater of most rock or metal musicians. No goth black, ridiculous jewelry, or costume BS. Just a guy in a hoodie kicking ass.
Gimmick can be a great tool, especially for live shows. It's an audio & visual treat. Listen to Rammstein, and then watch their live shows; it enhanced the sound.
@@ICRA95 We don't live in the 70's and no one is nostalgic for that era unless you don't like progressive change. I love Bowie and Deep Purple. Music and dress are two separate things. So when I saw Matteo come along I said, “finally we have someone to carry on the legacy of good melody, good technique, and tasteful chops”. So glad to see him finally getting recognized for his talent
i think everything being picked is more guitary and its just an unique sound instead of emulating sax, but legato and different rhythmic phrasing is definitely something that should be used.
And I love how he refers to it as 'pronunciation'. I know it's partly a language/translation thing, but it's such a useful way to think about it - phrases & application of theory are the vocabulary, the physical approach is the pronunciation.
He doesn’t play the guitar like a guitar player would. The first part sounds better to me because it’s the sound i expect from a guitar. But the 2nd one does make more sense musically because jazz reed instruments play like that. I never noticed it until he stated that here.
This tecnique he's talking about involves slurring from the upbeat into the downbeat. That's how I play my bebop lines as a sax player. It's also impossible to articulate every single note after a certain speed.
At such a young age and playing like he’s been doing it for 50 years. 🔥🎸🤯

He sounds like he invented old timey guitar.
He’s so damn good. His phrasing and tone are unmatched. Every note is so clean and precise. How remains so tasteful to is mind boggling.

"One word, Prodigy." So what do you want to say with that, exactly?
@@thomaschudalla7057 I thought it was obvious.
it is so completely irrelevant, why even mentioning it, unless you think (in his case) it‘s a bad thing? do you think it‘s a bad thing?
It's obviously not a bad thing, Einstein, and I don't know why you trolled me in the first place. Go out and get yourself a life.

Matteo is an awesome guitar player.❤❤❤❤❤❤

Saw him in Hamburg two weeks ago. Amazing experience! The drummer and bass player were fantastic too.
Ol Matteo is an effing amazing guitar player. The dude is just perfect at it.
Damn, he's good! So much control, tone, phrasing, musicality! 😊 ❤
He’s the new breed and he is miles ahead of just about everyone.
Damn! What a talent, persistent and wisdom. Bravo! 👏🎸🙏
This is the new approach in guitar playing. This technique is unheard till now. This guy is bringing guitar playing on new level

I love the way he says, "legato".
Well legato is an italian word, so he has an advantage when saying it
@@SE-et5nt 🤦
I believe his music is beautiful but I could listen to him talk about it all day
He says it with the Italian accent 😄
Legato means "bound" or "tied" in italian and you can hear why.
picked without a pick 😅just crazy
Truly a young giant

in what way does he incorporate classical into his style besides finger picking?

I love to pick scratches that you can see on his guitar
