A pileup like this is mainly due to conditions and lack of communication. They need to make all the CB radios in these trucks operational and mandatory. If one is in a wreck and the driver can still communicate, this wouldn't have happened

Well, they aren't to blame, other than letting non-english speaking / writing people continue to drive trucks through the state. Been driving in this state for 13 years. Only thing I've seen noticeably change is that the freeways get closed sooner and for longer periods of time. Don't blame the state, bro. Blame the trucking companies for hiring drivers that couldn't successfully flip a burger at McDonald's.
The state should be held responsible for neglecting highway safety. This is all preventable. Control the damn traffic or close the highway. I feel like the state allows this to happen, somehow they benefit from this, we need to change this.
Time in and time out, winter in the Rockies is extremely unpredictable. From the recorded history of the earliest people to now, Winter can bare her teeth at any given moment and defy the best of our modern prediction methods. Drivers need to have CB's on in every cab, and NOT listening to their earbuds. Highway patrol needs to have the authority to slow ALL traffic down (variable speed limits across i-80 that THEY set as they encounter them and IMMEDIATELY) and the teeth to enforce it. Get all vehicles to common safe travel speed, even in whiteout conditions, with all vehicles following it will lessen some of the accidents. Enforcing chain laws, where even the smallest vehicle must have them on or forfeit access. All along the I-80 corridor, and the earlier US-30 route, Lincoln Douglas Routes, winters were encountered, some much worse than these last few years. Hunker down where you can, even if it is in some town fairgrounds, is much preferable to putting yourself into harm, or harming others. Reality thinking is what we need.
In any kind of bad weather conditions you got to drive slow especially being in a 18 wheeler because you're at more of a risk because it takes a 18 wheeler a lot longer to stop..my condolences to the families of this terrible accident..
You know, driving a truck in bad weather much different. In my opinion it’s more stable. It’s more weight and more wheels which gives you more traction per square feet. Think about it. Second you don’t wanna stay close to other trucks no matter behind them, side by side or in front of them. Because you need observe what’s going on ahead of you, so you have enough time to react. That’s why cars think oh that truck goes too fast. No, because he doesn’t want to be close to you, little sedan when you start skidding. Third, don’t forget, driving is what we get paid for, while we drive we earn, instead of other car who just trying to get to workplace in bad weather. I understand it takes more time for 18 wheeler to stop but I prefer to control anything around me to get ready for curves, hills and reckless drivers

It's not a CB problem, it's an increase in traffic. I did the FedEx Wamsutter run at nights for five years, an I've hauled across Wyoming for 15. It's not lack of CB, it's just the fact that i80 Wyoming is the worst stretch of interstate in the USA, bar none. I've seen thousands of semi wrecks on this stretch and have literally watched people breathe their last breaths in the middle of the road while waiting for an ambulance. Let us not forget the 60-80 mph winds that blow across this area 9 months out of the year, and the 3-6 inch thick black ice that builds up for months on end.
