"If you don't stop acting like this this'll be your roommate!"
This is 100% not the proper enclosure for a ball python. They require 60%-70% humidity and that will not happen with this cage. That cage will not hold heat well either. Unless you feel like taping up all the holes in this cage its not gonna work.
Don't spread bad info. Use vision cages or tubs. (:
shut up,thank u
+Star geckos she's right though?
+star geckos she is completely right
Some people can't afford vision cages so they use tubs but I use Tanks
I do agree tho
watched this video 7 years ago before i got my new ball python in 5th grade. A couple years later, we sold her. But, looking back at this video brings back a lot of memories.
This was by far, the best Set up video I have ever seen. Cheap, well described, Fun to watch. Fun facts. LOVE IT! .
this is what you should know before adopting a snake
1. snakes are carnivores and most eat mice, rats, or other rodents depending on their size. rarely will you get a snake, such as a garter snake, that eats fish. have practice with friends snakes and make sure your comfortable feeding them.
2. snakes are living creatures and can get angry. any snake could strike at you and be prepared. do not hurt the snake as punishment because not only is that animal cruelty, but they won't learn anything from that and in their eyes, you'd be the enemy.
3. research what snake you're getting. for beginners, i'd recommend a corn snake or ball python. if you consider yourself and expert and have been keeping reptiles for over five years, and you're considering getting something like a burmese python, do lots of research.
4. before getting a snake, make sure they're 'your thing' meaning you'll handle them properly, feed them, and do anything they need for survival.
5. make sure everyone in your house hold is fine with it. remember you only can get one snake per cage. (unless your breeding them and if so, have at least one year experience with snakes) most reptile keepers, like me, have multiple snakes but you only really need one.

i hope this helped you!

Im not going to listen to the people that say "I think" i will go watch a professional
THanks for posting this. I've been considering getting a ball python, and this was a great starting video.
thanks for the video! I'm buying my first ball python and I needed a little advise. thanks
Hi, I love reptiles, specifically snakes, and I want to help anyone If they have this type of cage and are worried the heat mat will cause it to melt. As long as the heat mat isn't overly hot, it shouldn't be an issue. If however, you need the heat mat to be a temperature that is quite hot for a reason, I suggest putting a layer under the actual cage. When I say layer, this could be duct tape, very very thin wood, or if you are not in a rush and are OK to spend some time on this, carefully remove the bottom of the plastic cage and replace it with a glass bottom. Glue it very well onto the rest if the plastic cage. You may think It's just easier to get a glass cage, but no. It costs more money and having glass walls, it makes it very hard to keep heat inside your snakes cage. Hope I helped someone 😀
wait if the walls are plastic it contains more heat?
+quick get to a bomb shelter u got blown up m8 Yes 😀
Ooooh cuz im getting a snake in 3 weeks so im trying to prepare b4 that time
I understand everything and im getting a 3ft long one but i dont know exactly how big the cage shoud be that is plastic( any advice)...also how does it contain more heat.
+quick get to a bomb shelter u got blown up m8 It keeps more heat since the materials that are in plastic are a great heat insulator, and for a 3ft snake, I suggest going to your local pet store and ask them, it can really vary. 😀
WARNING: BAD ADVICE!!!!! WARNING: BAD ADVICE
Matty D okay thank you i wasn't sure if it was just me or what (I don't have a ball python yet) but this went against the stuff I researched
I completely agree. This guy is full if shit!!🤬
Everyone knows that correct enclosure size is a 20 gallon long terrarium with front opening doors. The correct substrate is always cyprus mulch. It holds moisture really well and I always use Zoomeds Forest Floor. A uth under the warm hide. And a cool hide on the other side. Also I always put some wet moss in the warm hide too create a moist hide. For decor I love adding a log and a few plants between the hides. I place the water dish on the cool side. For lighting I just put a led lighting system with a nightlight feature. For extra humidity I use a reptifogger on it's lowest setting so as not to fog up the tank. As far keeping humidity in the tank a piece of saran wrap works well but always leave at least 3/4 of the screen top exposed so as to have proper airflow. And that's all you need to do in my opinion for caring for your Ball Python.
MCD Reptiles seems great but the fogged is unnecessary and the nightlight is gonna stress your ball python out. And u don’t need front opening doors. I have a 20 gallon long with front opening doors for my baby ball python but u don’t need it. I also use forest floor with some moss mixed in
informative. liked the video
I found this very helpful! I'm looking into getting a ball python
DUDE...i feel sorry for ur ball pythons... t hides one in heat one in cool...now if hes getting over heated he has to come out of hiding to cool down...
Anyone else thinking that cage is way to small
Mason Hackler! Best way to tell is if the snake fully laid out covers more then two sides in length then it is to small. If anything this is to bigZ
No because ball pythons like smaller areas feel more comfortable when they are younger that a fine
@@mizzhorror1501 Not for a hatchling....they prefer small spaces and generally eat better when they feel secure. Ball pythons spend most of their time in their hides, they're rarely out & about. "A hiding ball python is a happy ball python".
Well, ball python's do like small spaces. But this is just a small space not small spaces.
Not for a baby, for an adult yes
I just want to thank u and SBtv for getting me into reptiles 4 years ago
Great video Reptilekeeper08. Congrats!
I genuinely hope you have remade this video because this is 100% the WRONG set up for a baby ball. No, just no.
What THE FU** YOU USING A HAMSTER CAGE BOII
This was the best video ever! He included everything I needed to know! Thanks!
I might get a snake and was trying to find a video just like this. Thanks it helped! :)
I disagree strongly with using plastic cages, and having more than an inch of bedding.
Christopher bro ahahahaha
Katie Slaugter what's wrong with more than an inch of bedding?
Katie Slaugter there is nothing wrong with tubs. You need to realize that it’s about what makes the snake comfortable and happy not you. Tubs are a great way to hold many snakes, as well they hold heat and regulate humidity very well!
Tubs are great for ball pythons, why would you "strongly" disagree with them? They're great if you're having humidity issues. I'll never understand people who act as if their way is the ONLY way. Glass enclosures, tub enclosures, rack systems....they all "work".
Actually, ball python doesn't need an inch bedding because they aren't burrowing animals. I don't know where you got your information from but it's wrong. You can you a plastic cage and you can also use bedding. He is doing so many things wrong in this video though.
I am going to get a baby ball python.
Brandon Lee did you?
Go do more research.
Hey, I see all of these negative comments but obviously this has been working for 8 years and he faces no problems. People have different methods and strategies for taking care of their animals and I accept that! Keep up the good work:)
I getting ball python soon and I am soo happy... This really helped. Thank you
Oh what a bad video...it sounds like you're at school nervously giving a presentation. Snake running around my house? Shit I didn't even know snakes had legs! Fuck!

xFaggJack When UA-cam wasn't a thing? Timeframe has nothing to do with it, lady!
+SAVAGE308SNIPER really dude grow the hell up man
xFaggJack No. "Your" stupid. Hey, buddy. It's you're and not "your."
Thanks, brother! I'll take your advice.

the best tutorial to set up a ball python cage!!!!!!!!
Great info
This helps me a bunch, thank you! I have to write a research paper about that type of snake, if I want to take care of the class pet (ball python snake). Everybody else in my class is to chicken to hold it, so I'm like :D!! This is very helpful, thank you!! :)
That's a fast moving ball python! My ball python just sits there for a moment and then slowly starts moving around until she decides which hiding place to go to.
Great vid dude
thanks for that. omg people always got something to say, wen someone is only trynna help or show how they do things
Good video lad, you did well.
Nice video... Thanks !
Sweet video man
Nice video, thanks for the info
thanks for telling me that is a lot of help
Very helpful
Very help ful
Thanks for this vid! its very helpful, even though my mom will probly never let me get one, its always good to know what to do if i get one. :D
Nice video.
AH! Good to know I can use Eco earth! I use it for my tarantulas. Now I dont have to worry about buying a differant bedding.
thanks very helpful information!
Oh and for my bp's bedding I use 1/3 orchid bark 1/3 peat and 1/3 aspen. She really seems to like it and It has helped a lot with her temper. She gets super feisty when she isn't comfy
hey i like ur vids
Very good video :D
He needs a cool hide in addition to the hot one. You could also use less bedding and more mods to hold the humidity to counteract the humidity being lost from that type of lid. Hope this helps :) you're also underfeeding him, they need to be fed weekly as adults and twice a week as hatchlings
Magical Miranda
why less bedding?
good job
thank you so much for the video it was really helpful u could have just help my mom get me a snake
why do people like to dislike a video if its not that bad come one now this video is good and very helpful because im getting a ball python so yah!
Good vid
thanks dude, yeah i seen those hides before but they are expensive, but like you said you can make your own custom made one =)
nice one man!
This video helped slot thanks u
nice vid i am going to have a enclosur like yours and same tank thx
sweet video yo im gettting a B/P this weekend
nice video!
good vid
Just a little tip you should not use aspen because sometimes it it in bigger chunks so it may tear of scales or poke them.and also it does not hold in the moisture they need:D ALSO sorry you can use heat lamps but the don't really need them but it can keep there enclosure ar the right temp
Do you not use a thermostat regulator? To regulate heat?
thats good
good video bro
I love this guy, He is obviously a good pet owner. I hate these breeders. who just throw the snake in there with some newspaper. no hide and a water bowl. right on dude.
I just pile text books on my Maleficent's cage XD Shes so tiny but so powerful!!!
I'm getting a pastel ball python for my son & I was thinking about getting that type critter keeper for it an I wanted to know does it hold humidity ? I also wanted to know since snakes are escaped artist can it escape through the lids at the top ?
If your getting a ball python I would worry about humidity only during shed fir example while in shed I would spray the cage down with warm water. Also if it's a baby I highly doubt it would escape from the cage that the guy in the vid was using.
NOPE. Just nope. DO NOT get a critter keeper. IT DOES NOT hold humidity. Just no. GO DO RESEARCH.
Hey, very nice video. These are very helpful. You and another guy broke it down nice and slow and covered the very basic stuff. I'm getting a 1 yr old female B/P for my son this week. We have a 40 gal breeder tank with 2 hides, a water bowl, a climbing branch, 2 thermometers, and are using aspen as a sub. Our heat source is a heat lamp from the top set on the screen. Have you ever left town for a week? If we put the light on a timer would things be OK when we get back?
Thanks for posting that and actually ive had mines for about 6 months and works ok, but i do understand what your saying..ive had plenty that broke on me.
Mine is in my bedroom, although it has a night heat lamp and a day heat lamp. They generally need pretty warm tanks 85-90 hot side 80 or so cold side. And you're going to need to keep the humidity pretty high as well in the tank 50-75%. You can get an automatic humidifier but they're pricey or just spray the tank with a spray bottle 2-3 times a day.
I've never had a pet snake before, but I am buying a Ball Python.
I've done my research a LONG time ago, so I have a good knowledge on how to take care of them. (And my brother in law has many snakes of his own, so I can ask him questions.)
I love snakes and I've always wanted one, so I'm super excited to take care of one and call it my own. :)
Yep, And like Evolution tells us, They will adapted to what they are given so if you give them a small cage for 4 generations then they will adapted to it, but if you put them in a cage with alot of climbing things they may adapted to that and start climbing and liking bigger areas.
Hi I have I want a Royal Python (Ball Python) and im really worried about humidity, in the video he says all you need to put is a deep water bowl is that true or would a moist hide box be more efficent thanks.
All you really need is to mist down the tank. A large water bowl is not enough. They should have a hygrometer in their tank So you can tell their humidity. If you are using Aspen or Carefresh, be careful. Those beddings can mold. I use paper towels. They are easy to use, don't mold to easily, and are cheap.
I NEED ONE OF THESE!!
Thanks for the video! Really informed me as to how to take care of a baby python once I buy it. Will you or do you already have a video for when they become bigger?
great vid i have a red tail boa i want to add on to it so i think im going to get a ball
awesome video, I would say that having a cage with that much ventilation and using aspen will really keep the humidity down (even if you mist and have a big water bowl). that snake might have a hard time getting a nice clean shed. other wise it was an awesome video! o and I would not put the heat pad directly under the hide, I would do half under the hide, might get to hot under there for them
My ball is 1 foot 5 inches, and about an inch thick around her biggest part, is she ready for adult mice or two hoppers?
Heat lamps do work on ball pythons, however, heat pads seem to be more beneficial for digestion, although they don't necessarily need it. Recall that they naturally digest foods in a burrow that is lower in temperature then the outside temperature, and the gradient heat that the heat pad provides is enough heat to digest it meals.
You need a temp ranging from 95 on the hot side to 75 on the cool side, and they also need around 60% humidity to shed well. Get a ceramic heating element and also another lamp fixture with a low wattage incandescent bulb for light. They need a day/night cycle to trigger feeding, but don't need UVA/UVB rays since they are completely nocturnal. Get an infrared temp gauge to you can precisely set your cage temps. Once you get that right just make sure and keep the tank moist, but not too wet.
I would recommend you to change your bedding because aspen doesn't hold humidity well
I had a critter keeper for my baby ball and I also used a heat pad. No it did not overheat and no it didn't melt the plastic...
ive been thinking about getting one but like is it a good reptile if like i want to hold it or is it timid, and like if i go to petsmart what would you suggest and how much do you think the whole project will cost?
looks like a huge hermit crab tank
