- Historically, the Arizona Wildcats are not known as a football school and have not had a ton of success this century. After Rich Rodriguez and Kevin Sumlin flamed out, the Cats were in a dark spot and Jedd Fisch was left to pick up the pieces. Despite being almost run out of town by the local mob, he managed to turn the Cats program around, make them a speical team in 2023 and now has them headed towards new heights, but how did this happen? Today, we are going to take a look at the fall & rise of Arizona football and all the pieces Jedd Fisch put in place to make this happen, enjoy!

Great video! Thanks for covering Arizona Wildcats. Jacob Cowing was part of the 2021 inaugural Jedd Fisch team and had back to back 1,000 yard seasons 2021-2022. Tight End Keyan Burnett, Sophomore, also was highschool teammates with Fifita and McMillan. He will have a bigger role next year when senior TE Tanner McLachlan graduates. Thanks again!

As an alum and season ticket holder, I was one of the critics of the Fisch hire. Losing to NAU two years ago made me think this guy was in over his head. However, that team never quit, played hard, and it was clear they believed in the process. Now I view it as not only an excellent hire but he clearly came in with a plan. In three years not only do we have depth and talent but we also have the size equal to elite teams as well as plenty of future pros. That's something you don't see at Arizona. Sumlin left this program in shambles. What Jedd has done in basically two recruiting classes has been amazing.

Dawg fan here... and I LOVE what is happening here! I've been a dawg fan since 73... and during the 90's, games with UofA were AWESOME. So glad to see the 'Cats on the rise!

I can remember like it was yesterday. I was 9 years old in 1992 and my step dad picked me up from the Boys and Girls club to go to the Washington Arizona game... at first I didnt want to go, as I was playing with my friends. But damn I'm glad I went to that game. The atmosphere was electric. The chant of Tedy Bruschi was loud. That moment is when I became a diehard Arizona Football fan. The 90s were some fun times to be in the Pac 10.
Jedd Fisch should be nominated for HC of the year . They went 5-7 last year improved a lot year 2. This year they really put it all together to become the real deal.
As a die hard Arizona fan and somebody who grew up in Tucson, I love this. Thank you for showing the cats some love with this video! Bear down!!!!

During the Dick Tomey era recruiting players from Hawaii/Polynesian islands was crucial to the Wildcats' success and they have gotten back to doing that.
This was a very good video. We Arizona football fans have not gotten a ton of media in recent so this is really appreciated it. The defense deserves a lot of credit for this season. They definitely should get some major coverage in a season review.
One thing I LOVE about coach Fisch is he sees a weakness and fixes it! Other coaches tend to only coach to their strengths, and neglect an area of the team. He is an offensive guy, but saw there was a need to recruit defense, so that was what he did! I wish our other coaches got that (cough, cough....Rich rod....)

i’ve been in the arizona band from 2021 until now. seeing fisch rebuild this program has been awesome. he came to speak to us at our band camp kickoff meeting in 2021. he’s always demonstrated a lot of heart and a genuine desire for everyone in the program and attached to it to succeed. even back in ‘21, he kept us believing in the upward trajectory, even when we lost to an FCS team. he’s always gone out of his way to give kids as many opportunities as possible. because of how much he believed in the program, this was able to happen. i can’t wait to accompany this team to the alamo bowl against oklahoma.

The team is rallying behind Noah Fifita. The QB from the Juice County Buckeyes. Kids been special from day 1. Works hard, great role model. He has all the tools. He will break every record.

Arizona football had good players who went pro every year from the last decade, but they never had a great winning record till this season.

As a Michigan fan, Jedd Fisch had a strong reputation among the players when he was at Michigan. When Michigan was down in 2020 and people were calling for Harbaugh’s head, I saw multiple former players calling for Jedd to get a look as potential replacement. I had a good feeling he would do well at Arizona. He’s exceeded expectations.
Great video. I would say the biggest thing you missed were the transfers and recruits brought in to both the O-line and the D-line. That has been a major problem in years past with the Cats, but this staff did an outstanding job with the overhaul there.
As a Trojan, I’m really happy for Arizona. Keep working fellas!

You didn't mention much about the Defensive turnaround. Arizona was bottom 6 in defense in the country last year, and now they are top 30, after playing 3 of the top offenses in the country. They have great playmakers on all 3 levels of the Defense, Taylor Upshaw, Jacob Manu at LB, Prysock and Maldonado in the Defensive Backfield, and only give up 102 rushing ypg. As good as the offensive turnaround was in 2022, the Defensive turnaround has been in 2023.
Also the LT Jordan Morgan is a beast and probably a 1st round pick next year, he would have left for the draft last year if not for an injury late in the season. Other than that this was a great recap video, thanks!

Rich Rod early success was with Stoops recruits. When he got his qb in Anu Soloman he ended up with multiple concussions from the offense Rich Rod ran. Fisch a great hire and will have Arizona at or near top in Big 12 for many years

Jedd fisch was rumored to be belichicks contingency plan if mcdaniels left. Apparently belichick wanted to adopt the mcvay system and was going to use fisch to implement it. I can't help but think NE would've been significantly better off if he took the coordinator job. He's clearly a damn good coach.
Arizona needs to extend Fisch's contract at the end of the season, and it won't be easy. Arizona has a lot of financial debt right now. Interesting to see what they do. However, and this is only my opinion, Arizona struck gold, for the second time (Lute Olson). What is not mentioned in this article is the quality of assistant coaches are part of the staff. Jedd Fisch has been around. He knows what he wants. Players and coaches! He found both of them, and at a high level. Tucson is a good place to live. It is a college town. I'm curious if Arizona might be in the playoff hunt next season. We almost have everyone back, if we don't lose them to the portal. IMO, Fisch is the best football coach Arizona has ever had, especially since he hasn't coached 3 years yet. I believe he will be at Arizona next season, and I will enjoy the ride.

Great analysis, only thing you forgot to mention is the fan backlash against De Laura with his interceptions and aggressive play style that started after the Miss State game. I think he would have been benched eventually for Fifita if he remained healthy because you can’t change how De Laura is.
I would love to see a video about which conferences you think will be the best after the realignment.

Hey just wondering if you could do a video for what stadiums would be suitable for the 2031 Rugby World Cup? terms of location, Big game sellouts Logisitics, fan welfare and travel.
I know there are Massive Stadiums but i dont think many touring fans would like to travel by car for most of it and would prefer a more transit system like Trains and public transportation.
Stadiums i personally like are your Northeast Stadiums like Soldiers Field, Lincoln Finacial Field, Acrisue Stadium and Gillette Stadium and Lambeau Field. Personally thinking having the World Cup in the North east would be a good idea because there are lots of cities that would have the facilities and amenities to host large amounts fans.
I love this channel and i would love to see one NFL channel talk and discuss this topic because i am very excited for the game to come to the US.

Sumlin was barely above .500 in conference at TAM, and his winning record was built on OOC and the cream puffs of the SEC. Guy needs help. Horrible hire.
