A lot of folks say “California is dying? Good.” In reality, I think it’s a bit of a tragedy. California used to be the golden example of the American Dream, but now it’s considerably terrible due to bad politics relating to housing and crime, bad forestry management, sleazy politicians and an expensive costs of living. I would’ve preferred to see California thrive, but unfortunately that just isn’t the case.
California always represented the American dream. Now that the latter is but a distant memory, Cali is tenfold as nightmarish, precisely by contrast with its dreamy image. Dreams are not reality, and reality eventually prevails; I mean, it was never a "dream" for commoners, but now that he grim reality has reached more people's doorsteps, they start paying attention to it.

Californians are just leaders, just say HI, when you meet someone from California, because they might twist it around and destroy your butt.
Filling cities with single family homes and front/back yards is not economical when 30 million people live in a dozen or so metro areas. I’m from Orange County where I drive homeless people trash the street like taking trash out from bus stops trash cans or people trash cans leaving for next day trash day.
The ridiculous gun/self defense laws in Californiastan are part of the reason why crime is a big problem. If people were allowed to fight back/use lethal force when their house is broken into or when they're being attacked, criminals would be less likely to commit a crime from fear of dying in the process of comitting whatever crime they were comitting. Look at Florida for example, laws were passed that allowed people to use lethal force against burglars or people assaulting themselves/someone else. As a result of such a law, crime rates went down, and Florida became a safer place to live. The cost of living in Florida is also more affordable for individuals working full time, with one bedroom apartment prices varying from $800 to $1500 a month depending on the area. A person making $19 an hour would be able to live comfortably in an $800 one bedroom apartment, with plenty of money left over at the end of the month for fun stuff or saving up for a vacation. I've done the math, and it doesn't lie.

You are moving to areas which don't have the infrastructure to hold a vast number of people. It's creating high rent, a market where locals can't buy homes and homelessness in the Spokane, Coeur d' Alene areas. It's not just here. In Oregon, Washington, Montana, South Dakota, Texas... and even Portugal, the locals can't afford to live in their own home areas due to Californian expats bringing gentrification . I'm sorry, if you can't address the problems concerning real estate prices in your home, you aren't going to be able to solve these problems when you bring them to other places.
