@aljanat5 Boseman was awesome as Black Panther as he was in so many other roles. But I'm talking about continuing an icon created by Stan Lee who stuck his neck out professionally to create a positive black role model in the middle of America's civil rights strife. I’ve been thinking about how to approach this review on Tenet without giving the impression of bashing the movie or hating on it. Cause I did like this movie but I certainly have a lot to say. Let’s start with this, I was like everyone else with Tenet. I was super excited, who wouldn’t be! Christopher Nolan directing, big budget summer blockbuster, with a complex plot, awesome trailer and a great cast! I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time and as soon as I found a showtime for my city I decided I had to go. So I saw Tenet and I have to say, this is a Christopher Nolan movie. It has his style of direction all over it. The complex and dense plot, big action spectacles and a long runtime. Will people like it, most likely unfortunate for me not so much. What really bothered me about this movie was the plot and how Nolan told this story. It didn’t feel cohesive or even understandable really but rather very confusing, rushed and the outcome of it all made me question what was the purpose of all that just happened. Even some of the plot points of this movie that kinda make sense doesn’t actually do. Like I didn’t really know much about the villain or his goals and there wasn’t enough character development to him other than a cliche evil plan, him being just a jerk but the actor who portrays him did a good job. The acting of this character gave an impression of unintentionally being funny and entertaining. But a lot of this movie felt like it was trying to be an extravaganza of action scenes, set pieces and dazzling spectacles. Luckily It does accomplish that though, a lot of the times. The action is really well done and does a lot of the spectacles. I just wish that the movie presented a more compelling story, because it felt as though it was kinda trying too. The story, plotting and even sometimes the screenplay felt so jumbled throughout the entire runtime. It tries to be so intellectual and complex but at the end it didn’t succeed at it. Overall Tenet wasn’t as great as I hoped for but, big and sometimes fun action scenes, good acting, sound design, and the look of the movie are all positives for Tenet. Maybe I just wasn’t smart enough to appreciate all this movie had to offer and that’s unfortunate, but I did have some fun with Tenet and think most people will enjoy it.
I tend to agree about how confusing it was. Not the plot - that was pretty clear to me. What tripped me up was the "how" of the movie. The whole time I saw "inversion" happening I kept trying to understand how it worked, and what I was supposed to be seeing. I couldn't. I'm sure if I sit down for repeat viewings and write it all out on paper, I will work it out. I'm certain that's how Nolan did it, and having done it many times, he thought it would be obvious to the viewer as well. It wasn't. The movie does ramp up the "inversion" part of it slowly, so by the time the big finale rolls around you just accept it and roll with it, without trying to understand the "how". It would have been cool to see more inversion fighting, where the protagonist pulls some cool moves DURING a fight, but that would have been some handwavium stuff and Nolan played it straight. It is a time travel movie in a way, but it begs repeat viewings to get it. And I'm definitely going to see it in theaters again.
I felt as though the music drowned out a lot of the dialogue as well which would’ve made it more confusing.Dont get me wrong the score was good but at times it was overwhelming.Doesnt really help with a movie so complicated that pieces of dialogue aren’t really that easy to hear.
I LOVED all of the action scenes, especially the inverted fight and last 10 minute scene. It was pretty difficult to wrap my head around the ins and outs of inversion and there’s a few small things you could complain about (after the freezing explosion there is a cut and he’s fine again, if everything is backwards (including respiration) surely you would be converting kinetic energy to glucose, not vice versa) - but they’re pretty picky. I think the story was beautifully wrapped up and the idea that, whatever you chose to do next, it would have always happened, is fascinating and quite satisfying too. Only complaint I have is the constant fast paced action - it was intense but left little room to breath or even allow the ideas/dialogue to settle before another explosion or fight. The music, although awesome, was louder than the dialogue at some points (something that also happened in the dark knight rises) and ended up drowning it out. I’d probably give the film a 9/10. It’s also interesting looking at review demographics. The more negative reviews came from older people (on IMDB). I reckon this is because they had more trouble understanding the concept.
Man it's crazy, I mean John David is his own self but I cannot help but 'hear' and 'see' Denzel, heck even in the movie there's a scene where he walks away and he has the same strut as his father. DNA is an amazing thing.
I'm a pretty big movie buff but I'm a little ashamed to admit I didn't really know who he was until this movie came out. I felt I had maybe seen him around in some things but he wasn't on my radar, didn't know his name, whether he was American or a Brit, etc. etc. I kept wondering who is this actor that seemingly came out of nowhere to star in arguably the biggest and most anticipated film of the year from one of the biggest directors (who happens to be one of my favorite) but to THEN find out he's Denzel Washington's son! 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️😬😬😬 Man, I wanted to slap myself!! LOL It's like that sometimes, though. I do feel this'll definitely be his breakout role IMO.

TheElMuffin awesome man, great insight and thanks for replying! I hope you get a chance to watch it again and enjoy!
John David sounds like his dad Denzel Washington!!
🎉❤️😎👍🎉
love this film... watched twice already
I found out JD was Denzel’s son like 10 minutes ago and now it makes perfect sense.
Great film. Will watch it again
What a lovely interview
Man it's crazy, I mean John David is his own self but I cannot help but 'hear' and 'see' Denzel, heck even in the movie there's a scene where he walks away and he has the same strut as his father. DNA is an amazing thing.
Y’all ngllll I vibe with their chemistry
I wonder when the fanfics and fanart for this ship going to happen XD
The more he speak the more he sounds like his father
He sound so much like his dad 👍🏾❤️
Class act all the way, just like papa. Talking about raising your child with good manners and respect.
I saw this last night and although I found it confusing in parts. I did enjoy it very much. Nolan can fill a theory with truth fantastically well.
His impression of Denzel Washington is uncanny.
That's a great moments lots of them
Thankyou for sharing
That awkward age range when you're old enough to have crushed on Denzel, yet young enough to fall hard for John David. 😳😳😳
Saw the movie 3 times in our theatre...in one week😊
It was absolutely fucking insaneeeeeee
