Classic, Bright, Articulate - the Concept Hybrid of the new Black Panther Design Lab EQUINOX snare from Mapex may well also describe MAPEX artist Alfred Golino, who throws down some old-school rudimental hands (with a reverse traditional grip, no less!) with masterful clarity and finesse. As versatile and as balanced as his snare of choice, it's not all press rolls and hand-to-hand Swiss triplets, though: the EQUINOX also provides a tasty transparency of texture in the most modern of grooves.

Great drums and drummer.
Wow, gorgeous sounding snare but this guy is awesome.
Bravissimo..
Wow!
Wow, this is a "Instrument". It sounds brilliant. I already ordered.
Great stick control
Absolute outstanding playing, sound and creativity! Amazing! Could you please provide us with more info about the whole setup - drums, sizes etc! The Song at the end beds the kit and the playing into a real production context and shines!
+Matthias Edwards - The drum kit that he's playing is the Mapex Armory ''Studioease Fast'' (shallow toms) 6-piece kit which includes the Armory series 14"x5.5" 1mm Steel shell (black chrome finish) Tomahawk snare drum for $899 USD. The shell pack sizes are:
10"x7" RT
12"x8" RT
14"x12" FT
16"x14" FT
18"x22" BD
The drum heads on the kit are the stock Remo ''UT'' (Chinese) Coated Ambassador heads. The Tomahawk snare comes with a Remo USA Coated Ambassador, and the Equinox snare has a Remo USA Diplomat Fiberskyn head. It looks like the hardware is all from the top end Mapex Falcon line.
I have this exact kit, but in the ''Transparent Walnut'' finish, and it is a fantastic kit for the money! I added a matching 13"x9" rack tom to swap in/out for versatility (when gigging locally I normally use just a one up/one down configuration).
I actually put the stock coated batter heads on the bottom of the rack and floor toms, then put the Remo Diplomat Fiberskyns on all of the batter heads, and it sounds amazing. I've also swapped the batter heads to the new Evans UV1 series, and they sound fantastic as well. A lot of people also like the clear Remo Emperors on this kit as well.
I recently found a great deal on the Equinox snare drum that was 20% off, so I couldn't resist. Out of more than 20+ snare drums that I've owned, it's probably my favorite and the most versatile to date. =] Amazing dynamic sensitivity for Ghost Notes and excellent cross- or side-stick sound! It easily tunes really low to cranking high as well. Couldn't be more pleased with it.
I'm normally not the fanboy type, but all of these drums have really impressed me, especially at their price point. My only issue or reservations with Mapex so far, is that their customer service & artist support is not the best I've experienced. Hope this helps.
