Crazy awards ceremony. The crowd absolutely hated Star the whole year, which is unfair looking back. In the years that have passed their show has become legendary, while CBC's show has pretty much been forgotten. If there was any year for a tie, this would have been it. The Cadets were given an almost physically impossible show by their staff and they nailed it, while Star was given an almost impossible musical show, which they nailed as well. Kudos to both corps members and staff... (and also to Star for not flinching when the fireworks that were supposed to go off at the medal presentation misfired and went directly into your block :/)
The Cadets 1993 show was never forgotten. It’s just a more traditional show and old school. So was Star’s, but they pushed for more modern stuff which is why people now love Star’s show. Imo, CBC was better and Star was actually a huge yawn for me. I honestly don’t understand why people of this generation don’t like the Cadets. I mean yeah they’re kinda rough at the moment but they had an amazing past and they have some of the best shows of all time. 93 was an amazing year for them and I don’t think people nowadays even bothered watching the Cadets 93 show. They just hop all over Star because it was their last year ig.
@@josiahcourtney5764 @Josiah Courtney maybe you feel differently, but statistically it's forgotten. when you search "cadets 1993," the first five videos total 50,000 views. when you search "star of indiana 1993," the first five videos total 170,000 views. haven't seen the whole cadets show yet. maybe i'll like it, def love star.
Nah. The 93 Cadets is still one of the most physically and musically demanding shows ever put on the field. Unbelievable demand. Star was great, but they got bested that evening. An “almost impossible musical book” is a stretch for that show, half of it being near silence. I’ve heard several good high school bands pull of much of Star’s book that year, but have yet to see anyone pull off that Holsinger book on a field before or since. Every time I revisit CBC 93 I’m blown away. Definitely not forgotten by those of us that competed against them.
@@reynolds727 “Half of it being in near silence.” That statement alone shows you know nothing. That’s called exposer. Star’s show was hands down the most difficult.
Last year of Star. BD signed on Todd Ryan for 1994 who was the visual caption head of Star to 1993. That change of staff was a huge change for BD. He revamped their marching style to what it is today. BD pretty much as owned the visual caption from 1994 give or take.
Glassmen and Colts first year in top 12. Colts are still around I don't know when they last made it to finals. It be nice to see the Glassmen come back alive again. I liked colts 2014 show.
This was a spectacular evening! The highlight for me during the retreat and awards ceremony was the method of each corps providing some kind of musical salute as they exited the field. The Blue Devils played their classic F tuning at the other corps and Phantom played their unforgettable Amazing Grace, the majesty of which we can never hear again...no G bugles. Looking back it seems as if all the corps members get it,...that THAT group of individuals would never be together again and that some of the musicians would never again be in that kind of musical shape....nothing to do in that situation except leave everything on the field and pour out every ounce of yourself through that mouthpiece and bell.
Star's show did nothing for me entertainment wise. Yes it was demanding, as was the drill, and they played it well, and did everything asked of them. Cadets show was more entertaining, just as demanding, and they got the reward for it. Entertainment has to factor in somehow.
It is confusing as to why so much excitement when second was announced. I get that many didn't like Star's show, but if you watch it, at the end, an overwhelming majority are cheering their heads off for them. In the end, I doubt there was a ton of hatred. The Cadets just had the fans won over at that point and they were happy for em. How about Phantom that year too? One of their best shows in their history.
The crowd knew that it was between the two corps. Therefore, if Star got second, that would mean Cadets got first. The crowd was chanting at Star's failure. Little did they know.
There was more hatred for Star's show than you think. It took them almost 7 full minutes to play anything above a forte and most of that time was soft or dead silence. People just were not ready for that kind of subtlety yet. I'm glad to see it has since been appreciated though.
sdssteward i still I cannot believe what you're saying about the crowd but I saw the old director from 27th a while ago from the seventies and he voiced the same sentiment. Musically the acelerando in the Bartok piece is not that quick and I think they may have come close to doubling it.
I really remember this season very well. A lot of people didn't like Star (myself included). I just though the show was not entertaining at all from a musical standpoint. One of the worst top 5 musical shows in terms of entertainment ever in DCI, IMO. Would be the last DCI for Star. I feel bad for their kids, but the staff knew they were creating a big risk of unnecessary isolating fans and, unfortunately, they lost.

One corps changed the activity.
"In 2nd place...Star of Indiana..."
Crowd goes nuts.
Star DM: Italian salute to crowd.
LMAO!
That's Matt Harloff, Crown's brass caption head.
He saved some pretty big face .... and look at his work now
That .100 that changed everything.
Well actually CBC stood and watched Star do their show again post retreat.
+Greggory Nekrasovas actually, the cadets were the fan favorites in '93, but the modern drum corps fanbase remembers star's show better
It didn't change is much as we thought it did... Star had already made the decision to leave DCI prior to the start of the season.
Last year Star of Indiana ever marched on a DCI field, and they were booed off...
and what bullshit! I have the full show on my channel and it is still the yardstick
@@fatovamingus Not anymore! To both statements.
The reason why is because EVERYONE knew they were leaving.

Colts 2007, equinox was the last time they made finals I'm pretty sure
I was in '93 Colts. Those two nights (Semifinals and Finals) were some of the best in my life. We were 20th in '92, then finishing 12th was amazing.
Colts made it to finals this year!
Oh here we go….🙄
People forget, Cadets color guard pushed them over star.

Judges pulled a Steve Harvey, actually star won
Nope!

the 'taste' of the audience has plenty to do with what constitutes entertainment for each person
My age out year

Yes. At previews that year, the crowd even booed when they won, to the point that the announcer had to jump in and say "that is uncalled for".
no! what chaos. i wrote a small article in 2007 about 1993 Star and spoke with the drum major. I forget what he said

Star got robbed
Yeah have to agree.
Yes their kids sure did when they closed down.
