@@JoeyAnthonyGuerra We as the Body of Christ filled with the Holy Ghost and given the gift of speaking in tongues is not Pyscho jibberish. You really need to do some serious in depth studying up on gifts of the spirit and what is available to us today as the church and body of Jesus Christ. God forbid we don't walk in no power through Christ and operate in His spiritual gifts for the Kingdom. There is a very good reason God tells us in His word that " My people shall perish for a lack of knowledge".

The purpose for tongues is to spread the gospel. The scripture tells us in Acts 8:26 - "26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.". The Spirit knows what our deepest groanings are and intercedes on our behalf to the Father.
*_"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."_* -- 1 Corinthians 14:2
This is better translated, “to a god.” The Greek text has no definite article (see similar translation in Acts 17:23, “the unknown god”). Their gibberish was worship of pagan deities. The Bible records no incident of any believer ever speaking to God in any other than normal human language. Corinthians using the counterfeit ecstatic speech of paganism were not interested in being understood, but in making a dramatic display. The spirit by which they spoke was not the Holy Spirit, but their own human spirit or some demon; and the mysteries they declared were the type associated with the pagan mystery religions, which were espoused to be the depths that only the initiated few were privileged to know and understand. Those mysteries were totally unlike the ones mentioned in Scripture (e.g., Matt. 13:11; Eph. 3:9), which are divine revelations of truths previously hidden. This is why context matters.

@@andreapwhite939exactly, after all, God created all of the known languages we hear & speak of today. He understands you in your native language. I absolutely agree here. Theres no point in speaking in another unknown language because know one’s going to understand you anyway so what’s the point? It doesn’t make you a better Christian too if you speak in tongues or not. Paul even says he rather us prophecy than speak in tongues.
@@andreapwhite939speaking to God in a tongue does not mean that it is wrong to speak to Him in our natural language. Paul said that he would do both. Do all speak in a tongue is what the Bible says. Conversely if God has allowed us to have the gift of tongues why is that wrong? It’s not wrong according to the scriptures to speak in a tongue if God allows one to. I for one want all that God has for me. If that is or is not speaking in a tongue so be it! But I will not twist scriptures based on whether or not it makes sense to my natural understanding.
@@mattysqueezesofficialYes God created the our natural languages. God also created tongues. He understands us in our “native” language AND HE understand stands us when we pray in the Spirit speaking mysteries. You said that it doesn’t make one a better Christian, but the scriptures says that it edifies the one speaking. It doesn’t mean that it makes one a “better “ Christian “ comparing to another Christian who does not speak in tongues. No.. the Bible does not teach that. Looking at the context of scripture it clearly teaches tongues. We cannot or should not read scripture filtered through our desires, natural understanding, or whether or not we don’t have that particular gift… What we should do is allow scripture to shape and mold our beliefs and opinions. Paul did say that it is better to prophesy than to speak in a tongue… but what is the entire context? He was referring to in a public setting. Having said that Paul said that he speaks in tongues more than all of them and that the solution was to do both. He also said that not all speak in a tongue.

Love your content Corey, and I'm directing family and friends to your channel. Studying the scriptures with the addition of what you share from the original languages adds so much to my understanding of the Bible. What I'm learning through your channel has caused me to reexamine what I've been taught and the way I've studied the scriptures. It has required me to be willing to let go of the way I had come to see certain things. I have a greater excitement for studying and sharing God's word.
I love your comment. As a black man coming out of the prosperity Pentecostal COGIC churches, I have had a true paradigm shift in my understanding of scripture. I have had a reset thanks to God! I'm happy for your growth!
he never spoke in tongues, he spoke in a fake made up tongue that he forced himself to do, and assumes everyone who speak in tongues is faking like he was.
The reason they second-guess themselves or the gift that God gave them, is because of people who condemn speaking in tongues, or question it and argue about it, causes them to question the gift that God gave them- The one Paul said he was grateful for and glad that he spoken tongues more than anybody.
Instead of relying on wisdom of the Spirit, he turned to the intellect of his mind. The Pharisees, though they knew the scriptures, they didn't recognize nor wanted to recognize the Spirit working in Jesus. They said He had a demon. What do religious Christians say of tongue talkers today? The Pharisees are intellectual Christians of today who strive against the Spirit. They are puffed up with their own understanding instead of humbling themselves as children. Receiving the things of the Spirit is difficult when you rely on your own understanding instead of faith. Faith is required to open up your mouth and speak even if you don't understand what you are saying. Your mind will try to convince you are doing something useless. Some might have a supernatural experience in the beginning. Others just stepped out in faith. I stepped out in faith and the supernatural experience happened to be years after when I kept speaking.
You know, I’ve always heard people “Speak in tongues” but I’ve never heard anyone interpret and another issue is If you who speak in Tongues believe the Holy Spirit is the one who causes you to speak in tongues and you would agree to that. You would also agree that the Holy Spirit Worked in Paul to write the scriptures….if that’s the case if the Spirit is leading Paul to write and say Don’t speak in tongues unless you interpret or someone is there to interpret and especially don’t do it if you are around 3 or more and no one is there to interpret, if the Holy Spirit wrote those Scriptures why then would the Holy Spirit “Cause” you to speak in Tongues inside a church full of people constantly without interpreters Contradicting himself? Like think about why would “GOD” contradict himself by causing you to do something he Himself told you not to do? Someone who speaks in Tongues in a church full of people can you explain this for me?
This is honestly the best simplest question that debunks there argument perfectly. Becuz I know not one person that "speaks in tongues" is going to be able to answer it.
I speak in Tongues and interpret. I understand those passages. They are clear. The mind jumps to all the wrong experiences then read into that makes it seem unclear. Example, we don't teach people we lead people in Tongues. One key is that Interpretation is interpretation and not translation. Can I get a hearing. I will put up a video this weekend by 12/11/23. I'm not apart of the "Spirit and Truth" here on UA-cam but they have it correct in their teaching also. They have a 4 part series. In our Church it take about 30 hours just to make sure people understand the scriptures on being born again and the gift of holy spirit then tongues is very clear. It is hard to do equations without understand your time table.
I use the same argument... how can it be the Holy Spirit when it's never done as the Scripture commands... and I used to speak in tongues myself.... Not anymore!!
That's the ridiculous reality of it. The Holy Spirit who is perfect in all His ways becomes imperfect when giving the gift of tongues by not giving the translation of it in equal measure. That's how you know the gibberish we hear uttered is completely fake and not from God.
@@certaindisciple1981you keep saying ( I ) should say the Holy Spirit because if you say the Holy Spirit is speaking and interpreting tongues there are consequences when people lie.
It's simple! If I only speak Chinese, among a group of people who speak English and start praying out loud, I would only be speaking to God and no one else would benefit from what I'm saying cause they only speak English. Therefore, I would then have to pray silently and keep it between me and God and also desire that God would give me the ability to interpret/ explain that others may understand.

@@chris20874 The Bible consistently emphasizes the importance of respectful language, regardless of our dialect or language. While I have the ability to speak a few words in different languages, including some that are not appropriate for Church, I choose to uphold the sanctity of our worship space by refraining from their use. When we engage in the spiritual practice of speaking in Tongues, it's essential to have a translator present. This not only ensures that the message is accessible to everyone in the congregation, but also fosters a sense of unity and understanding, thereby preventing any potential confusion or misinterpretation. I heard a Preacher on UA-cam claim he got in front of his congregation and started speaking Japanese. Next, he asked for a show of hands if anyone understood what he had said. No one raised their hand that could interpret what he had said. Now he knew what he was saying inside the Church. 1 Corinthians 14:9 notes, "So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue," how will anyone know what you are saying? "You will just be speaking into the air." Corey to answer your question. You weren’t proven wrong, but he did inadvertently prove you right. These “church” are following a religion not God. Sha tata ain’t edifying no one.
I understand the arguments on both sides. And there’s just a difference in perception of whether an interpreter would be someone who understood the language being spoken, and could interpret it either to themselves or others or whether or not an interpreter is someone who doesn’t speak the language themselves and can interpret it from God. I think it’s interesting that we build our theology of what it is from Paul’s letter to the church that is considered the carnal church that is not operating with a good understanding of the spirit, but has to be rebuked because it is walking according to the flesh in so many areas. Could those verses, and Corinthians also be written from the understanding of the gift being given to validate for unbelievers the validity of the gospel rather than being practicing the way that people who are unbelievers think you’re crazy, which is how it was being used in the Corinthian church. Does it lead to an enhancement of God‘s purposes of pointing to Christ, or is it being used not to point to Christ in the gospel but the point people to seek the power of the Holy Spirit rather than salvation in Christ? Is this not one of the tensions between the two groups today? Is not an emphasis on having the power of the gifts of the spirit and the implementation of them through people on earth, rather than the pointing to salvation from this world and to the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ? It seems when tongues or the other gifts become exalted and sought. after, but the emphasis is really on the gift, the Holy Spirit and power given to people on this earth, rather than exalting the king of kings, who came to deliver us. I understand the tension but I struggle with it. I do believe that God acts in powerful miraculous ways. I also am hesitant because Jesus tells us that he that seeks after a miraculous sign, comes from an adulteress generation that is easily influenced and follows after someone who seems to be able to offer that power whether it’s in line with scripture and God‘s will or not. At least that’s how it seems to me to be what Jesus is saying. I am interested in your thoughts. I realize that this is a huge divide on how many Christians think, even ones who agree on the fundamental truth of salvation.
I believe the “ tongues” that these churches broadcast ,that people don’t understand, should be left in their prayer closet personally for themselves. The tongues of speaking different languages should be used in the church with a person who is able to give accurate interpretation. Someone can come along and interpret it when they speak that language that is spoken. Speaking these unknown tongues are no benefit to the body or other Christians nor is it beneficial to reaching unbelievers.
Paul was saying that when you have a cacophony of babbling in various languages, you’re going to be showing non-Believers a lack of order from the Spirit and in the Body/Church. If everyone is loud and screaming, nothing of substance will go forth… In short: If no one knows what is being said, what value does it bring?
What needs to be understood is that Paul is letting us know that when glossolalia tongues "angelic tongues", we don't know what we are saying in the open. That's why he mentioned that we are communicating with Elohim, and it leads to Paul instructing us to have an interpreter along with that one person to give understanding to what's being said. Here's where the edification of the body of Christ is mentioned because the gifting of prophecy edifies others. Tongues edifies that person. Remember Paul said if he had a choice he'd between tongues and prophesying, then he'd choose prophecy because it edifies the body pastor Christ.

But the apostle Paul said himself, when I pray in the spirit, I’m speaking mysteries unto God. Therefore, we who pray in an unknown tongue or an angelic or a foreign earthly language, we trust by faith that we are speaking mysteries unto God.
It’s a known language to the ones hearing it but not the one speaking it… that’s why it was miraculous… being able to speak a language that’s you’ve never spoken
"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries." 1 Cor 14:2 I don't see how any known human language is what Paul means here. All human languages are spoken to men. Tongues is speaking mysteries by the Holy Spirit to God, not men. Where's the confusion?
If it's a known language, someone should be available to interpret it. Follow God's commandment. Simple as that!!! Too much gibberish is being spoken. @@py20I agree with the scripture shared in the first half but on the day of Pentecost the tongues were certainly known, man-made languages. I believe tongues is both.
@@py20if you read the rest of that chapter and the context, you’d see that Paul is against speaking in tongues if there is nobody there to interpret what you’re saying. When I read Acts 2, it seemed to me like it wasn't that each apostle was speaking a different language, but rather that all hearers heard their words in his own native language. I guess you could say each of the apostles was speaking *all* languages, simultaneously. "...the crowd came together and were confounded, because each man heard them speaking in his own language. 7 They were all amazed and marveled, saying to each other, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 How is it that we hear, each in our own native language?"" Each of the hearers heard the apostles - as a group, not individually - speaking in his own language. If I was trying to get across that each hearer hears *an* apostle speaking in his native language, I'd have said just that. Furthermore, look at the list of nations: Parthians, Medes, Elamites, Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, Libya, Rome, Cretans, and Arabs. I'm counting 15 regions there. And there were only 12 apostles. Peter's speech makes more sense this way, too, I think, given that the entire assembly would understand him, not just however many could understand whichever language he was speaking at the time. I'm quite happy to be corrected, if there's some peculiarity of the Greek that gets lost in translation, or if some of those regions speak the same language. That's just something I thought of when I read it a week ago.
That would mean unbelievers (hearers) were using the gift of interpretation, but they haven’t received the spirit yet so that narrative does not logically follow. Furthermore, it plainly says that the spirit came on the believers, and divided tongues fell on each of the believers, and THEY began to SPEAK in other languages. So if you read it in context it does say that the believers were the ones who began speaking in other languages as the spirit gave them ability. If they began to speak in other languages, then it logically follows that bystanders would hear them and understand them speaking in their own language. Contextually the miracle has nothing to do with the hearers, but rather the speakers.
@@josiahmoeller8821 Which is why I rephrased in the first paragraph: " I guess you could say each of the apostles was speaking all languages, simultaneously."
This would take a few pages to explain properly; so, for the sake of brevity, I’m considerably simplifying and ‘bottom lining’ the below. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit did not give the _language_ (i.e., the means/content) of the apostles’ speech, it gave the _manner_ in which it was spoken. The Holy Spirit gave the 12 apostles what in the Greek text is “apophtheggesthai”. This word is from “apophtheggomai” which is best translated as “to give bold, authoritative, inspired speech to”. Don’t go to Strong’s and look it up - “Strong’s” is a _concordance_ , not a lexicon; there’s a _huge_ difference. It refers *not* to the content/means of the speech (i.e., the language used), but rather to the *manner* of speaking. In each instance where this word occurs in scripture, the person's speech is bold, authoritative, and inspired, and it is always, by the way, in the speaker’s native language. Without going into what could be considerable detail, when looking at the “language wherein the attendees were born” there are only two: Aramaic and Greek. The Jews present at Pentecost came from three areas: Judea, the Western Diaspora and the Eastern Diaspora. “All nations under heaven” is an idiomatic expression - Acts II: 9-11 tells us where those visiting were from. Jews from Judea spoke Aramaic and some may have grown up speaking Greek. Jews of the Western Diaspora spoke Greek. Jews of the Eastern Diaspora spoke the languages of those countries, but it was never the language of "hearth and home", the language wherein they were born. That language was Aramaic. Think of immigrant communities here. They may all speak English to some degree, but it's certainly not what they're speaking at home and amongst themselves. To try and use another analogy - think of the Jewish Diaspora in Central and Eastern Europe prior to WWII. Many countries, many languages, and Jewish people living in these places spoke the local language in varying degrees of fluency. But it was _never_ their native language, the language of hearth and home, the language wherein they were born - that language was Yiddish. The one language that defined them as Jews no matter where they were from. Same situation in the 1st century Eastern Diaspora, the defining language (the equivalent of my analogy’s Yiddish) was Aramaic. Many lands, many places and people, but only two languages; Aramaic and Greek; and of course, the apostles spoke both. The “list of nations”, as it’s called, of Acts 2: 9-11 is simply that - a list of countries, lands and nations that tell us where these people were from; *not* what language(s) they spoke, as most people assume. Further, the idea that the “tongues” of Acts II was xenoglossy also stems from this false assumption. In the entire narrative not *one* language is ever referenced by name - ever wonder why? The miracle of language at Pentecost was making the God of the Jews accessible to all people and moreover, not having to do so in one prescribed language: namely, Hebrew, the sacerdotal language of Judaism. The crowd was expecting to hear Hebrew first followed by translations into Aramaic and Greek as was the tradition and practice of the day; what they got were Aramaic and Greek without Hebrew first. In Acts 2, the actual gift being emphasized is the fact that the Holy Spirit has empowered the disciples to _prophesy_ and to boldly proclaim the Word of the Lord, and this is exactly what we find in verse 14. Peter “lifted up his voice and _addressed_ them”, but perhaps a better translation would be that he lifted up his voice and _prophesied._ We tend to think of prophecy as a kind of foretelling of future events, but in the Hebrew use, it was more often associated with _speaking forth_ the Word of the Lord. I would argue that, if looking for a gift of the Holy Spirit to assign to Pentecost, it would be more the gift of Prophesy than of Languages. No xenoglossy, no modern tongues-speech, just real, rational language(s). There *was* a language miracle at Pentecost provided by the Holy Spirit, no argument there; just not the one most people assume. And of course, again, when the apostles received (were baptized in) the Holy Spirit, the only tongues (read ‘languages’) spoken as “initial evidence” thereof, were their own. In short, there was no “baptism of the Holy Spirit with initial evidence of tongues” at Pentecost, that’s a modern Pentecostal construct.
Acts 2 was speaking of tongues on men. Acts 2;4, "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And 6b, "and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language." Every man heard the unlearn men in their languages, These were devout Jews from other nations hearing their tongue. Corinthians 12 introduce the reader to Spiritual Gifts and tongues was one of the gifts, 1 Cor 12: 10b, "different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues." Paul in 1 Cor 13, he starts off talking about the edifications of the use of the gift. And we find tongues being use to different ways. 1 Cor 13:1, "though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. Tongues of men and angels. 1 Cor 14: 5, Paul speaks of the operation of the tongues use. "I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. Whenever their is a person speaking in tongue in the church building, there should be an interpreter. And in verse 6 of the same chapter, Paul strikes and serious issue with tongues. Because if it does not edified, he rather that you not that you speak openly. Verse 6, "Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? Paul goes further to bring this to a closer in verse 14:13-17, "Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. And in 14. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.16. Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17. For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. The conclusion of the matter is, if tongues is being spoken in a church, there must be a interpreter. 14:27-28, "If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God." Be bless Man of God!
no, that is NOT what paul was referring to. I have this gift and GOD allows me to speak in tongues and other Christians will understand what i am saying in ENGLISH , while i speak in UNKNOWN TONGUES. God will give some people the interpretation or allow others who don't speak ENGLISH to understand it in there OWN language . Most people who are against or speaking against tongues have never spoke in tongues , don't have a deep prayer life , etc. and have no experience with it .
So many of the saints are falling away from the faith simply because we do not understand what tongues are and the purpose of them. But it is plainly layed out in God's word for those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. See brother Corey, it seems that you have the desire to prove that tongues are not real and that it serves no purpose, that you fight against what the Apostle Paul said, and I quote, " I thank my god. I speak with tongues more than you all"! What are tongues? answer: Tongues is a heavenly language not known or understood by men on the earth (1co14:2). Paul even calls it the language of Angels (1co13:1).The purpose of tongues is easily found in 1co 14:4, Jude 1:20-21. Many say that tongues are languages of men on the earth but if that's the case why does one have to PRAY FOR INTERPRETATION only when they desire to speak aloud in the church? Answer: Because it's not known earthly languages and it must bring edification not only to the one that is simply "GIVING THANKS WELL", but that all may understanding so the hearers can be edified and say Amen! You asked when was it ever foretold that tongues would come? Answer Isaiah 28:11....if the lips aren't stammering or trembling, more than likely it's not the real expression of the being filled with the holy ghost. The Benefit of tongues is for the one speaking unless when spoken in the church someone translate in plain words so that the hearers may also be edified. Tongues are not to be forbidden or frowned upon because it identifies who those children and people are today without taking a fake DNA test. Isaiah 44:1-3/Romans 8:16/. For those of you wandering about the people that are not Israel, they to can their faith in Jesus and be delivered from the bondage of corruption (which is the living in the flesh) ( Read Romans 8:16-23, this is specifically talking about other people that are not the children mentioned in verse 16.
*incorrect* Once you know Jesus that's acceptance however once someone knows Jesus they then must follow his commandments. In order to follow his commandments we have to read the Scriptures!!!
@@Key-jz7zf Very very true! God says in His word, " My people shall perish for a lack of knowledge.". That knowledge and true wisdom only comes from Reading His word. God says in James 1:22- " Be Ye doers of the word and not hearers only, for you shall deceive you own self.". Very clear God wants us to be doers of His word, to study His word, apply His word daily in our lives. Many people are going to be decieved because without reading His word and having a persoanly daily relationship with Jesus Christ, King God Almighty then how they expect to walk the narrow road and stand at the narrow of gate on judgement day. It is sad just how much Satan and the demons of this world fool people. All we can do is hope and pray people wake up and get serious with Jesus. ✝️👑🙌
@courtneydyer6922 You are spot on Courtney!!! Great great great response. To further stress the importance of knowing scripture and not just Jesus name, Matthew 7:22-24. Many so called Christians will be disappointed on that day. For this gentleman to make a statement saying (it's not what we know), is a blasphemous statement and a spirit of rebellion. JOHN 14:15..JESUS made it clear that if we (Love) him then we are to follow his commandments. No one can know Jesus without knowing what Jesus wants from us!!! It is awful the way so many christians rely on( just ) the name!! Yes the name Jesus Christ is powerful, however following his commandments is what will Save us and not just knowing his name. Lazy so called Christians that believe once saved always saved will be the ones saying Lord Lord haven't I prophesied in your name.. Jesus answer will be (Depart from me you workers of iniquity).. Keep reading the Scriptures Courtney it's the only thing that will save us from eternal hell... ❤️🙏🏾
@ENDofREGULATION30 I have been in services where an interpretation did follow after a person spoke openly in tongues. Sorry, I did not ask for their credentials or how I could reach that person!! But the scriptures does include interpretation of tongues as a gift that God gives. I Cor. 12:10.❤❤
@@gwenlucas4200 record someone who is speaking in tongues. Go to 2-3 people who claim to have the gift of interpretation. Get the results and then get back at me 👉 But, I dont think you will do this experiment.... because this would expose the truth. As a Christian, you should care about truth.
How does talking directly to God build me up? If you talking directly to God wouldn’t that excite you? Wouldn’t that answer your prayer of unbelief? Wouldn’t that strengthen your faith and excite you 100x fold?! Wouldn’t that want you to spread the Gospel for others to feel that same feeling of peace amidst of our Lord Jesus?! That edifies and builds you up and that feeling is contagious to help others as well 🙏🏾
This made my stomach hurt! It's scary when you know so much! The brother in blue is very humble and patient! Just be holy like God said. I'm glad you ended the way you did.
@2:09:40 is where this whole conversation could have begun and ended. While I appreciate listening to the respectful discourse, we perpetuate division and factions in the Body on semantics. I would rather we take a longer time to invest in sharing our faith with lost souls, partnering to teach the Gospel, witnessing or evangelizing as brothers in the Faith. You're right, Sir. WHO we believe in is more important than WHAT we subscribe to, letter for letter.
God bless you corey! You are doing a wonderful job with this particular topic. Every single time I listen to you regarding this topic, I get a more deeper understanding. All glory to God for you sir.
Bro. Minor... let me first say that I and all that listen to your videos are truly blessed. You have an extraordinary grasp of the Word and its proper interpretation--- despite the constant push back from those who bend to culture, social pressures and ignorance. Having said that, the young man, I believe you called him Sam, was perfectly correct of his intepretation of the scriptures as it relates to tongues. The passage from Acts at Pentecost WAS NOT TONGUES. What happened at Pentecost was that the Lord enabled each person present there to hear Peter's sermon in their OWN LANGUAGE so that everyone would have the opportunity to be saved. Tongues is an UNKNOWN LANGUAGE. Paul's dissertation concerning Tongues in 1Corinthians emphasizes the utility of it as a spiritual gift. Specifically, what he says stands for the proposition that unless there is someone present to INTEPRET what one is saying in tongues, then it is meaningless to the congregation, who would benefit from a "few words" of prophecy (normal language) than many words in tongues (an unknown language). I commend your guest Sam because he was composed and respectful in his presentation. He never demonstrated any "arrogance" in his correct position. I commend you Bro. Minor for having that guest on your broadcast. I also commend you for the time and study you have committed yourself to so that you may bring to all of us a knowledge of the unadulterated WORD of GOD. Please keep up the good work MY BROTHER.
Hey Corey, I watched the whole video, and I would have to say that what you are missing is the power of the moving of the Spirit in both the Church setting and in your private prayer life.
Paul answer the question why speak in tongues among each other when you can speak your nature language that can be understood And I believe this is why Paul was addressing this issue. In other words why speak in your heavenly language among each other when you can speak what is understood.
Cory not everyone has the resource to use hermeneutics to break down scripture.....if the word of God is to go to the uttermost parts of the world. We can assume they may or may not have hermeneutics to understand the teachings of the bible. God manifest his word through preaching....its Him who does it not hermeneutics.
AMPC He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness].
Proverbs 3:5 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 28:26 ESV Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. Exodus 14:14 ESV The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
The first problem is the Bible being used for this lesson is not a KJV. The second problem is thinking a Christian needs to know/understand Greek in order to know what is being said in the Bible. For example, whenever God wants you to know plural versus singular in the KJV he used Ye (plural) or Thee/Thou (singular). 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Yep. Today's gibberish tongues speakers are very proud of their gift. Everytime Ive talked with one, they insulted my salvation and told me I just don't have the spirit. They defend it in the same way that people defend false prophets
1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 1 Corinthians 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
I love you Cory, but I completely disagree with where you are going with your argument. Yes, Paul is encouraging the gift of prophesy over the gift of tongues (in context) but he never says "Don't speak in tongues", actually just the opposite "I wish you all spoke with tongues" 1 Cor. 14:5. But prophesy is a better gift but tongues are still a gift.
Sam I like your honest answers. Because in the Bible 1 Corinthians 14:13 KJV Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
Growing up in a Baptist Church I was not exposed to tongues. But in January of 1991 I visited a Pentecostal Church in Chicago. The Pastor and the congregation embraced me and prayed over me. I am from the south. The next morning I read a passage of scripture from Psalms 18 and knelt down to pray. I began to speak in tongues, this went on all day, until after 4 pm in the evening. I had no control it flowed through me. My understanding was unfruitful, it was in the presence of all in the house and I knew it was from God. I never spoke again but in 1995 I had a spiritual experience where I heard the language supernaturally, I still did not understand but my spirit or inner man understood and responded to the command and I had an experience that was so awesome that it is still with me. So yes speaking in 1991 prepared me for what God was going to do in 95. Just because I was in a Baptist Church I never spoke against what I didn't understand.
Did you not wonder why you didn't receive the gift of tongues in the Baptist Church or does the Holy Spirit who gives that gift not operate in Baptist churches and only in Pentecostal ones?🤔
@@ifeifesiJust the same when Jesus couldn't perform much miracles In a particular town.... Faith...you speak faith not gibberish but as the Spirit give utterance.
Wasn't a Holy Spirit but a different spirit. Hinduism speak in tongues too you know. You went against scriptures in 1Cor 14 where Paul says not to speak unless there is understanding.
@@ifeifesi I knew why. Unbelief hinders the flow of God. They were word heavy and spirit impoverished, God wanted me to know His Spirit can be embraced as well as His word. Because of that experience I was prepared and recognized phase 2 of what would come in March of 95. I am not confused. That is. not the only thing that I experienced that evening in that Pentecostal church. I experienced a prophetic word . They didn't know me that was my first and last visit. but the Spirit of the Lord had spoken in July of 91 an utterance from Psalms 91 about fear not for I have given my angels charge over thee. I shared it with my husband but put it out of my mind. 6months later when I walked into that church in Chicago the Man of God who was preaching got silent and I didn't know why. He spoke to me, never seen me before or after said, young lady two angels came in with you. It was evident from my posture and facial expression I didn't believe him. Then he asked why was I staring at him in disbelief when The Lord Himself had revealed this to me. My knees got weak because I had heard it and shared it with my husband 6 months earlier. Just because I didn't understand certain things I didn't dismiss them nor did my husband. He said he didn't understand just wait on God He will reveal. God bless
@@christoprighteous8199 Apparently you did not read. I was in the house kneeled down to pray and came up speaking in tongues. I didn't do it it was done unto me and I was under the control of the Spirit from morning to evening. I knew it was of God. If I tried to put a cracker in my mouth He would not allow me to eat. I understand what Paul said but I was not under Paul's control. I was under the control of God. Paul also said that women were to keep silent in the Church but March of 95 I received Divine commission to preach the Gospel. Still fearful because I was in a Baptist Church but God made it unmistakable about his desire for my life so who do I obey? Jesus or Paul?. He led me on a remarkable journey so I would not misunderstand. I heard Bishop Morton say their Bishopric was through Peter's succession. The Lord bypassed Peter and Paul and Commissioned me that's why I stand solidly, not wavering. Even after the death of my husband of 44 years God is still with me
I would dare to say a pastor that Pray in tongues versus a pastor that does not pray in tongue. I honestly believe that the pastor that pray in tongues will be able to go deeper and understanding of God‘s word you have to understand this, the English language, or whatever language you speak is limited, but I believe praying in tongues is not limited I believe that is unlimited
Corey is right about tongues being languages, and he does not make the distinction in definition of the different gifts that the original Greek makes. The gift of the Spirit that involves tongues in Acts 2 is the dorea gift (Acts 2:38). In Greek it denotes a personal gift, and in this context it is between GOD and the believer. Everyone “will” receive this gift (Acts 2:39) The “gifts” in 1 Corinthians 12:4 is the Greek word charisma, which denotes a gift for a group of people. Hence, this gift is for the benefit of the church. Which is where Paul says this gift will not be used or given to everyone. Paul does not use the dorea gift word in 1 Corinthians 12 or 14 so he does not contradict Peter in Acts 2:38. A quick reference to study. GOD bless everyone! 1:01:45 I disagree that those people didn’t speak a common language “Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.” Acts 2:5 ESV They were Jews, devout Jews at that. They most likely knew the Jewish language and also knew the language from the country where they were coming from. GOD bless!
It is very difficult for those who believe they have talked on tongues not to read their experience into the text. We should subject our experience to what the text says in its grammatical and historical context. Nevertheless the brother conversing with Corey is a true brother in Christ, no doubt about it. I also appreciate the tone of the conversation. It is extremely cordial as it should be between brothers in Christ.
@@thetruthchannel349 I'm curious: did any of the not-Paul Apostles have falling outs? Also, where do you get the information that Paul/Peter and Paul/Barnabas has fallings out?
@@thetruthchannel349 What are you talking about? This isn’t a matter of salvation, but one of disagreement. It is possible for two people who know Christ as Savior to have a civil conversation. Nothing looks worse in the eyes of the world than two believers in a public brawl over an issue that is not a matter of essential orthodox Christian doctrine. I understand extreme passion when the cross of Christ is being assaulted or the inerrancy of Scripture etc.Talking on some tongues can be discussed by Christians who disagree apart from it publicly looking like Big Time Westling or the WWE.
@@thetruthchannel349 Passion can either be controlled or out of control. Take a guess as to which is indicative of the self control produced by the Holy Spirit?
Pretty interesting convo. Thank you both for at least agreeing that pursuing Love is the ultimate pursuit. In my estimation, it the greater gift than the gifts of prophesying, miracles and all kind of wonderful works.
I know of at least one teacher on Christian Radio, who is not Pentecostal, who admitted to have had "ecstatic utterances" during private prayers at home.
At 2:07 Well, it edifies me to know I am speaking to Abba spirit to Spirit. And yes I ask for the interpretation because I'd like to know what Ruach is helping me pray about🤔. Because there are things I want to pray about but doing always know what to say. How does Corey not see that as amazing? Where does he leave room for our supernatural God?? You are a smart Christian but you will NOT know and understand everything while we're here. I see both perspectives, however, Corey 's conclusion leaves no room for the Creator of the cosmos to be a Mystery. No room for anything that he cannot quantify, if he cannot find it in our Scriptures. But it's already been said that there was no way to write out everything about Him that there was to write out. We wouldn't have room to hold it all. If Yah says He will spend eternity revealing Himself to us then how can Corey continue to try to wrap Him up in this neat little bow called our Bible? Paul never said you MUST interpret. He said pray (ASK) to interpret and if there is no response then stop speaking to the Body and only talk to the Father. These men are just going to have to agree to disagree. Some people are speaking gibberish by imitating what they've heard in church or faking it (nothing we can do about that), but... speaking to Yah in the Spirit is biblical. Paul said it👍🏾😊 Shalom🙏🏾
Brother Corey, I love you. Never doubt that. I also respect you and know that this is your channel that I love and would like it to grow from glory to glory, as well as wanting what is best for you and everyone here. Please stop the arguments and seek the power to speak in tongues - your divine prayer language that can enable you to pray without ceasing. If you don't speak in tongues, let it be a matter of when you will have it by design & promise rather than thinking it is for others and not for you. Just get rid of all sin in your life including emotional sin. Ensure also you forgive everyone and repent from all involvement in ocult. This will make you a candidate even before baptism in water! When you seek the filling, you must open your mouth to speak. While you wait for it to happen - just keep on saying, "thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus..." You will be filled with the Holy Spirit with the sign of speaking in tongues. When it happens to you, KEEP the EXPERIENCE. 1Cor.12.7 - But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: The gloried Jesus Christ, seated at the right hand of the Father, is the baptizer resulting in the experience. To qualify you need to come to a place of 100% repentance - let God control every area of your life. How long do you think you can pray with understanding, before you run out of words?? When you get born-again you receive the Holy Spirit. Don't stop there please! Baptism in the Holy Spirit always results in speaking in tongues. It is for everyone who believes and every Christian's divine inheritance. Praying in the spirit is praying in tongues in this context praying in tongues is a prayer that needs no interpretation as you speak divine mysteries to God. The devil and self are kept out of such prayer. Any brother or sister in Christ (Christian) who does not yet speak in tongues should be walking towards tongues and not away. 1Cor.14.2 - For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. I suggest listening to more teachings on babtizm in the Holy Spirit, especially from those who have the experience, as it is a gateway to tremendous power of the age to come. You have to speak in tongues to know the power. When you come to the experience of speaking in tongues, the conversation and arguments stop. We all speak to be heard. God will give you the discernment of when to speak in tongues. The experience is of tremendous help in your prayer closet to enable you get more power and also pray for long hours. One can pray for 24 hrs without ceasing! I think that is amazing. Please don't run away from tongues. It is the showstopper of the whole Christian salvation experience, according to me. The times when you need interpretation is when 1. the tongues spoken is a prophesy (to edify an individual or a congregation or 2, the tongues spoken is diverse tongues equally to edify an individual, a group or a congregation. Please don't take offense at my comment. I do not mean to take away anything from anyone but rather add that you may move forward in your experience as a Christian. Paul spoke with tongues. 2 cor 6:16 1 John 4:4 John 17 Jesus prayed for believers Mark 16 Acts 2 Acts 11 I cor 3 :16 spirit dwells with us 1 cor 6:19 2 cor 6:16 Acts 8; 5 1 cor 14:18 1 cor 12:7 John 14:16'17 Romans 8:20 25 1Cor.14.39 - Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. -- (NKJV) God bless all.
Brother, your entire post is based on a wrong interpretation of the texts. The Bible does not instruct us seek any power to speak in tongues as you have stated. You are making tongues some sort of superior gift. Paul even stated that the gift of prophecy is greater. Also, scripture says that it is the Holy Spirit that determines the distribution of the gifts and the measure of the gifts. There is nowhere in scripture where we are encouraged to seek the gift of speaking in tongues. We are called to pursue love and to earnestly desire the gifts of the Spirit. The gifts of tongues is for the spreading of the gospel as it was done in scripture.
Speaking in tongues will not get you into Heaven ,it was for a certain time, People today are not really speaking in tongues Galations 5:22-23 Paul talks about the fruit of the Spirit describing if you have the Holy Spirit what it will produce , meaning if you are born again the Spirit will manifest itself in this way , speaking in an unknown tongue is not a fruit of the spirit ,it was a gift for a certain time ,if you are born again you are a new creature in Christ, if any man be in Christ he is a new creature ,again doesnt mention anything about tongues
I pray that God will open your eyes to the spirit that makes you think it is of HIM. God is not the author of confusion and if you don't know what you are saying, then it is confusion. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which CANNOT BE UTTERED. [Romans 8:26 KJV]
I was in Bible study and we were taught to view 1 Corinthians 14 on its own, independent of chapter 12. We were told to read it on its own to show that the tongues Paul refers to here is different from tongues (human language) in Acts chapter 2. I tried to point out that Chapter 12 is linked to chapter 14 as Apostle was writing one letter. I was shut down, and told to stop twisting scripture. The pastor says the tongues is a heavenly language.
This whole jude 20 argument is bunk. It doesn't say "build up each other by praying in the Holy Spirit." It says build up yourselves BECAUSE THERE ARE MULTIPLE PEOPLE. -It's like if I tell a group of kids after basketball practice "you all need to go fuel yourselves with food" but this doesn't mean they are now going to go feed each other. They are going to go feed themselves and by doing so they will ALL be built up and fueled. Btw, I am not arguing that Jude 20 is about praying in tongues as i beleive you can pray in the Spirit in English...but it's clearly an instruction to a group of people to who each need to be praying so that they can be edified and then with your edification you are then able to edify others.
The context of Jude is what? He is arguing for a defense of the faith and then encourages the body to build up ἑαυτοὺς "plural accusative" yourselves. In context and in view of EVERY OTHER passage about building up others, and since we don't see another passage telling to build up yourself, then my point is made.
@@smartchristians Brother Corey I'll give you one verse and you let me know what "be strong" means since you know some Greek. But it seems to me that Paul is telling them to *strengthen themselves* in the Lord based in the definition below and the fact that he tells them to take up the armor. And we each need to do this for ourselves. Yes, it's a different Greek word, but Paul is telling them to do something for themselves. To take upon the armor of God. And thus, when they do so they are helping to strengthen the whole body. Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, *be strong* in the Lord and in the power of His might. Greek: g1743. ἐνδυναμόω endynamoō; from 1722 and 1412; to empower: - enable, (increase in) strength(-en), be (make) strong.AV (8) - be strong 3, strengthen 2, increase in strength 1, enable 1, be made strong 1; I think my original comment made it clear that Paul could be talking about each person edifying themselves through prayer, but it seems you argumentation stems from the fact that you can't find another verse that says the same thing. I just think that's poor hermeneutic because that allows you to reinterpret any idea that is stated once into whatever you want it to say. But hopefully Ephesians 6:10 will at least give you something to hold on to here. Again, to be completely clear though, edifying yourself for your own benefit only IS WRONG. But edifying yourself for the benefit of others is exactly what we should do. That's why we pray, read, study, seek after God is to edify ourselves for the benefit and edification of the whole body of Christ in order that we could a) defend the faith, which akins back to Ephesians 6:10 where Paul says strengthen yourself in the Lord.
I think Jude 20 implies “with the Holy Spirit”. Not Tongues. But we can see that the gift can also be used to build up the body(as it’s supposed to) or edify oneself. This is clearly done in acts 2. 1)They were speaking mysteries to God (the wonderful works of God) 2) people understood (Prophecy) If it’s not understood then (the gift) is being used wrong. Only edifying oneself. Nothing wrong with edifying ourselves but we are called to edify one another. This is why the GIFT of TONGUES is ONLY A SIGN GIFT. A gift none the less but it was only for a sign to the unbelieving Jews. Period. Understanding that it’s ONLY PURPOSE was a sign to the unbeliever is key to understanding this gift. Prophecy is for the believer.
Simple and sweet: Acts 2:1-4 (jews 120 all at the same time), Acts 10: 44-48( gentiles his household and family all at the time), Acts 19:1-7 ( 12 men all at the same time) no interpretation and ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Then we see in 1 Corinthians 14 says, 2 or 3 and 3 is the cut off point AND one at a time. All in the book of Acts EVERY experience was more than 3 people and all at the same time.
The reason Paul states in 1 Corinthians 12:1-2 I do not want you to be ignorant, is because of exactly what Corey is doing. He’s saying that people in Corinth were calling Christ accursed, but it seems that’s what some people were telling the Corinthians. Because they didn’t know what they were saying some were saying that they were cursing Christ. But Paul lets them know when they are speaking in a tongue they cannot curse Christ, because the spirit is leading them to speak. Notice that Acts chapt. 2 says they spoke with tongues as the spirit gave them utterance. The Holy Spirit gives the believer utterance, He teaches us what to say in tongues. That’s why it’s called praying in the spirit.
There is space given for self-edification in the local assembly, according to the scriptures but Paul exhorts us how to do this decently and in order (I Cor 14:26-32).
When you pray in the tongues of angels it is the holy spirit which gives utterance because he is spirit and he lives inside of you thats his angelic tongues he prays to the father on our behalf when we do not know what to pray he intercedes for us Brother
What in the world are you talking about? if you have the true gift of speaking in other languages as mentioned in scripture, you'll know that it didn't come from the Angels, but God/Holy Spirit.
TONGUES ARE KNOWN LANGUAGES. GOD SPOKE WITH ABRAHAM AND ISRAEL IN A KNOWN LANGUAGE. THE GIFT OF TONGUES WERE GIVEN TO PROMOTE THE GOSPEL TO PEOPLE SPEAKING DIFFERENT LANGUAGES ALL AROUND THE WORLD. FAKE TONGUES IS NOT FROM GOD FAKE TONGUES IS NOT FROM GOD GROW UP!
What I think Paul is also addressing is a person that actually speaks a different language and then he's also addressing the gift of tongues two separate things. If there's no one that can interpret that language and this man wants to address the congregation he must remain silent. Now the gift of tongues he states he must pray to interpret those tongues a natural language the gift of tongues and then the gift of interpretation of tongues. Speaking in a native language is not a gift of the spirit.
Paul was addressing the gift of tongues in all it’s forms (unknown, known, & prophecy) bc we’re exercising the ‘gift’ ignorantly & it was disruptive to the flow of church‘service (I Cor 14:32)’:
The word of God is not hard nor difficult to understand in fact it is very simple and straightforward but Cory likes to debate and by the way English is not the problem, it's you brother Cory. No need to be a bible scholar. 😊❤
The Bible says that there are mysteries within the context. So it is hard to understand and The Most High meant it to be hard to understand. Matthew 13:11-16 There are mysteries within the Bible that was given to the apostles. Parables were spoken to everyone else. So it is hard to understand what the Bible is saying if you are one of the ones that Jesus did not reveal it too. People had to be taught again about Jesus. The key word is “again.” You have to first have known of His Word in order to be taught AGAIN! Psalm 147:19-20 He showeth HIS WORD unto Jacob, His states and judgements unto ISRAEL!!! HE HAS NOT DEALT SO WITH ANY OTHER NATION! This may be over some people’s head but I have a question. Did Jacob see Jesus?
See, some people have their opinion or how they feel or what has been handed down from generation to generation, but the bible just like God is meant to simply believe and live your life with morals through faith if that makes since. I won't argue about it, and I won't debate it because that is why people are in bad shape in God's world. People are confused and don't know what to believe, so they believe in any doctrine or they don't believe at all. John 20: 29-31 simple.😊
If it’s not hard to understand why are there so many different interpretations in the topic? And if Corey is the problem why are there so many other people making discussions out of this topic? Common now. Don’t be rude
@princessm6355 I am not being rude, and I will not go back and forth with his followers. I thank God for Jesus Christ, and my salvation doesn't come from man, I am done. Be blessed.
I've witnessed in the building people who claim to interpret what someone was saying while speaking in so called tongues in the spirit. It has been handed down from generation to generation in error.
1st Corinthians 14:27-28 "if anyone speak in tongues, only two or three should speak, and someone else should interpret" DO U SEE THIS LAW BEING OBEYED IN CHURCH TODAY? And if they are real tongues being powered by the Holy Spirit, wouldn't the same Holy Spirit convict the speakers of breaking this law to a point where they would ask the pastor "should we look at what the scripture says about tongues before we proceed to speak out loud in tongues "?
It’s clear that Corey twisting the scripture to fit his own narrative. The other guy is correct. Paul is addressing public church service not to speak in tongues in open without interpretation. But a man can speak in tongues as the Spirit gives utterances when a man is speaking to God, bcuz the Spirit pray for the man bcuz he know not what to pray for so the Spirit intercede on the man behalf. Everyone who is filled with the Spirit of God will speak in tongues as the Spirit give the utterance, not the man himself doing it on his own, but the Spirit is speaking out through this man to God and the man doesn’t understand. In Acts 2 God fulfilled what the prophet Joel spoke of. And God allowed all 120 in the upper room to operate in the gift of tongues by speaking in OTHER tongues, which is the different languages.
Honestly without even looking up the root word you can clearly see that Paul means to build up others in the body . The context of the chapter and previous chapters clearly show that it's talking about building up others . All you got to do is go to 1 Corinthians 1 , it lays the context of the chapters to come .
But you can't build up others unless you too are built up. Jesus didn't go out in his ministry until he was endued with power AND he continually went back to the father privately to pray and fast to be strengthened for more ministry (I'm not saying he prayed in tongues btw)
@@BEABEREAN10 that's not necessarily true all the time but if that was the case thats not the issue here . The issue is what is Paul talking about ? Look at the whole chapter . @hayeschrist1 exactly, these people don't believe. if they read the book of Mark and Matthew, they would get the understanding of how important having faith is to God.
I've asked a lot of ppl why do they need to speak gibberish instead of clear language? I also ask how do tongues help anyone or help prayer? If ppl say it helps get prayers answered, that means they believe they can use special words to get God to answer when God already knows. The truth is that it doesn't help anyone, but does make people feel like its proof of their relationship with God or proof they have the spirit. Almost like they need a sign or physical proof of God. Ive never gotten a single answer that was clear. They'll just say "it edifies me" and then they'll tell me I don't know God like they do or attack me in some other way Tongues does accomplish one thing and thats to chase new believers away or cause them to chase nonsense
Brother, I have come to many of the same conclusions about scripture just by following what is being spoken about in a passage. Many Christians I speak to about a passage uses the verses out of context, because the church they attend preaches it that way. For instance they will take something that is spoken of in the negative and say it is positive, just to make it fit their belief. When I point out that it is just the opposite of what they are saying simply by ready it in context, they will still deny it. Thank you for taking scripture in context and bringing in the actual Greek to show the meaning of words. It's interesting how you can show that a word has the same meaning in every instance where it is used, and yet it will have a new meaning in just the verse they are looking at. Keep up the good work.
Brother Cory I'm only like 14 minutes in and you probably spoke on this later in this video but this brother is taking what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14 completely out of context . It was not a good thing when Paul mentioned someone edifying himself when he speaks in tongues .
There are 2 different types of tongues, you have your prayer language tongues, that's being talked about in Acts chapter 2, and you have the gift of tongue's that's in 1 Corinthians.
Speaking in tongues as a born again believer is different than the gift of tongues spoken about in Corinthians. The gift of tongues is primarily for the body. Praying in tongues as a born again believer is for the believer, build yourself up by praying in the Holy Ghost. I will pray in the Spirit and I will pray with the understanding ALSO. Praying with the understanding is the ADDITIONAL prayer which makes praying in the Holy Ghost the more powerful and effective than the (also) prayer.
The issue I had is that Corey would not allow Sam to go where the actual answer to his questions are. Corey would shut him down saying just stay here. So the questions Corey asked were not seeking answers, just to give his view.
So agree! He dominated this whole encounter, in addition that he is rude at some extent, trying to prove what he knows, on the other hand, the other guy is so collected and so secured of what he knows..I can feel his desperation
I agree as well. He did dominate the conversation to prove his point. I am truly glad that I know the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for myself and that the Holy Spirit will guide me in all truth. Be blessed.
Brother Corey himself concerning Prophecy defined it as also meaning “ to reveal “ what did Jesus say concerning the Holy Spirit that he was gonna send in John 16:13 . So can we agree that the Lord reveals through the preached word and prophecy released in present tense also ?
This is what happens when you don’t have the revelation of the Holy Spirit, opening the scriptures to you. Anyone sees it clearly. speaking in tongues is real…..
Just a recommendation that 60 second intro music is too long and I almost skipped watching your video. But, I'm glad I moved forward. Informative video.
Man this tongue deception is really a strong hold for a lot of people. How this brother kept trying to find a loop hole in the scripture to justify speaking in tongues gave me a headache. And I use to be one who thought I spoke in tongue.
I was deceived as well for 20 years. Not here to argue or debate. It was simply a man made stronghold and it messed me up. I started reading the scriptures in its entirety, no cherry picking.

Dont forget- There are tongues of men, known and unknown depending on the hearer But most importantly is "tongues of angels" in 1 cor 13:1 which are tongues that are completely unknown to any man And 1 Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for NO MAN understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. And in context of this unknown tongue: 1 Cor 14:4 “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church" I DO feel edified when I pray in private in tongues to God! Tongues are mostly meant for our personal prayer life "Forbid not to speak in tongues " I agree we don't seem to have the 9 manifestations of the Spirit miracles, tongues, interpretation, healings, prophecy, ect like the early church did (1 Cor 12:8-10) The early church had these on command! But we can still pray for these on His command and amen He still works miracles ! Jesus prayed a lot privately to the Father to edify himself!
I'm with you with always saved, but the gift of speaking in angelic tongues exists, because I speak too. Before I didn't want to speak in tongues because I was afraid that it was something from my imagination. This is the only fear that keeps everyone away from spiritual gifts. But now I prophesy and interpret tongues. Paul showed us how to serve the Lord but faith has declined
People who do whatever they can to dismantle the truth about tongues, are ignorant of the purpose of the gift of tongues used in certain instances. Paul said ,”FORBID NOT TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES” ……pay attention to what Paul said,Jude 20….and as far as being build up according to 1 Corinthians 14:3-6 ….We have so many testimonies of people experiencing the results of praying in the spirit. The scripture states,” The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth”…..and knowing the truth one needs to be intimate with the truth prayerfully.

We have to be careful about putting our opinion and/or experience or lack there of (whether on one side or the other) above the Bible. Believe what the Word says, and read it in context.
Why would you have to or want to speak to God in tongues? What’s wrong with speaking to Him in your natural language? He will understand you!

@@andreapwhite939speaking to God in a tongue does not mean that it is wrong to speak to Him in our natural language. Paul said that he would do both. Do all speak in a tongue is what the Bible says. I don’t understand how someone can say that they used to speak in tongues and then say I don’t need it!
he never spoke in tongues, he spoke in a fake made up tongue that he forced himself to do, and assumes everyone who speak in tongues is faking like he was.
I’m a new listener, I’ve been truly blessed. Thanks Cory for the clear explanation. It has cleared up a lot of misunderstandings for me.

I actually have love for brother Cory and I believe that he is a very smart and intelligent person, God bless the both of these brothers.😊❤
Does he rightly divide?
What I understand from Paul’s teachings, it that there is a heavenly language that only God knows and when someone speaks it, the person edifies himself.
This was great! I dont agree with brother Sam. However, i am thankful for him coming on and giving scripture to support his view. He must be in one of the very few churches who speak in tongues and have someone to interpret what is being said. If that's true, then Amen.
Rev Corey, you are spot on teaching on Tongues where no one knows what is being said. However, some church the Tongues are never tested or interpreted. God has given you a gift to teach Gods word. Amen & Amen

First of all Corey can't be referenced as a Reverend there is only one who is to be referenced. And as far as speaking in tongues we speak to God not knowing what we're saying but God does. Tongues can't be tested only prophecy.

"You will just be speaking into the air." The message is preserved with understanding, and everyone is enlightened about our worship approach.

That’s actually not accurate . To mock is an indicator
Interpret it , it’s right there in scripture
What needs to be understood is that Paul is letting us know that when glossolalia tongues "angelic tongues", we don't know what we are saying in the open. That's why he mentioned that we are communicating with Elohim, and it leads to Paul instructing us to have an interpreter along with that one person to give understanding to what's being said. Here's where the edification of the body of Christ is mentioned because the gifting of prophecy edifies others. Tongues edifies that person. Remember Paul said if he had a choice he'd between tongues and prophesying, then he'd choose prophecy because it edifies the body pastor Christ.
Brother Corey, I'm a pastor and I been listening to you for about tongue and other segments. I believe your interpretation of this subject. I'm subscribed and I'm enjoying what the Lord is doing in you my brother!! Thank you for the word.
"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries." 1 Cor 14:2
I don't see how any known human language is what Paul means here. All human languages are spoken to men. Tongues is speaking mysteries by the Holy Spirit to God, not men. Where's the confusion?
If it's a known language, someone should be available to interpret it. Follow God's commandment. Simple as that!!! Too much gibberish is being spoken. I once belonged to a church in which a prosperity preacher would speak in gibberish, and he had a partner to interpret the gibberish to scam the congregation out of money. BEWARE!!!!
You are wrong you can't stop reading or pick out scripture you must read the whole Bible. You took that out of context.
Read the book of mark chapter 16 and the book of acts
When I read Acts 2, it seemed to me like it wasn't that each apostle was speaking a different language, but rather that all hearers heard their words in his own native language. I guess you could say each of the apostles was speaking *all* languages, simultaneously.
"...the crowd came together and were confounded, because each man heard them speaking in his own language. 7 They were all amazed and marveled, saying to each other, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 How is it that we hear, each in our own native language?""
Each of the hearers heard the apostles - as a group, not individually - speaking in his own language.
@@josiahmoeller8821amen
@@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 That was fascinating, thank you for the comment.
Corinthians 12 introduce the reader to Spiritual Gifts and tongues was one of the gifts,
1 Cor 12: 10b, "different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues." Paul in 1 Cor 13, he starts off talking about the edifications of the use of the gift.
28. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God."

So many of the saints are falling away from the faith simply because we do not understand what tongues are and the purpose of them.

I Agree,,,
Bro. Minor... let me first say that I and all that listen to your videos are truly blessed.
Hey Corey,
I watched the whole video, and I would have to say that what you are missing is the power of the moving of the Spirit in both the Church setting and in your private prayer life.

Interesting how Peter used tongues to witness but today's tongues crowd uses it for themselves. Tongues was for unbelievers.
What an excellent example of communication and respect for the Word of God and each other.
Tongues is not incoherent babble that is fruitless
@@sevan8350 I agree entirely. The real gift of tongues, which does exist, is not incoherent babbling!
Sam I like your honest answers. Because in the Bible 1 Corinthians 14:13 KJV
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

He said Corey was isolating passages, I disagree. But near the end he started to isolate passages because he couldn’t accept that he was wrong.
These people are their own judge and god
Corey is right about tongues being languages, and he does not make the distinction in definition of the different gifts that the original Greek makes. The gift of the Spirit that involves tongues in Acts 2 is the dorea gift (Acts 2:38). In Greek it denotes a personal gift, and in this context it is between GOD and the believer. Everyone “will” receive this gift (Acts 2:39)
The “gifts” in 1 Corinthians 12:4 is the Greek word charisma, which denotes a gift for a group of people.
1:01:45 I disagree that those people didn’t speak a common language
“Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.”
Acts 2:5 ESV
They were Jews, devout Jews at that.

Paul said it👍🏾😊

What is 100% repentance?
Speaking in tongues will not get you into Heaven ,it was for a certain time, People today are not really speaking in tongues
Galations 5:22-23 Paul talks about the fruit of the Spirit describing if you have the Holy Spirit what it will produce , meaning if you are born again the Spirit will manifest itself in this way , speaking in an unknown tongue is not a fruit of the spirit ,it was a gift for a certain time ,if you are born again you are a new creature in Christ, if any man be in Christ he is a new creature ,again doesnt mention anything about tongues
Rom 8:26 ha nothing to do with speaking in an unknown tongue
Get truly born again and you wont have to worry about speaking in an unknown tongue
Ephesians 6:10
Finally, my brethren, *be strong* in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Greek:
g1743. ἐνδυναμόω endynamoō; from 1722 and 1412; to empower: - enable, (increase in) strength(-en), be (make) strong.AV (8) - be strong 3, strengthen 2, increase in strength 1, enable 1, be made strong 1;
I think my original comment made it clear that Paul could be talking about each person edifying themselves through prayer, but it seems you argumentation stems from the fact that you can't find another verse that says the same thing.
@@smartchristians no reply on Ephesians 6:10 brother? Just curious honestly because it seems pretty clear to me but I could be wrong
I think Jude 20 implies “with the Holy Spirit”.
Not Tongues.
But we can see that the gift can also be used to build up the body(as it’s supposed to) or edify oneself. This is clearly done in acts 2.
1)They were speaking mysteries to God (the wonderful works of God)
2) people understood
(Prophecy)
If it’s not understood then (the gift) is being used wrong.
Angels spoke human languages 😂
The Hindu is speaking tongues, and casting out demons, bringing poeple back from the dead. What spirit is doing this in them? Self proclaimed gurus!
I still don't understand why we can not just go to God in our own language the spirit groans not babble
For real. It seems more about pride with people. If tongues were a real supernatural gift, then we wouldn't need faith because we'd have proof
@@cowel8734Love your comment!!

Matthew 13:11-16
There are mysteries within the Bible that was given to the apostles. Parables were spoken to everyone else.
So it is hard to understand what the Bible is saying if you are one of the ones that Jesus did not reveal it too.
People had to be taught again about Jesus. The key word is “again.”
You have to first have known of His Word in order to be taught AGAIN!

DO U SEE THIS LAW BEING OBEYED IN CHURCH TODAY?

Look at the whole chapter . ...."your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
...the Bible answers our concerns...
If it was real we could just see it in plain sight and not have to examine and explain it to death.
@hayeschrist1 yes speaking tongues of different languages for the purpose of delivering he gospel after dying on the cross for us.
@hayeschrist1 exactly, these people don't believe. if they read the book of Mark and Matthew, they would get the understanding of how important having faith is to God.
John 8:43-44
I've asked a lot of ppl why do they need to speak gibberish instead of clear language? I also ask how do tongues help anyone or help prayer? If ppl say it helps get prayers answered, that means they believe they can use special words to get God to answer when God already knows.
The truth is that it doesn't help anyone, but does make people feel like its proof of their relationship with God or proof they have the spirit. Almost like they need a sign or physical proof of God.
Ive never gotten a single answer that was clear. They'll just say "it edifies me" and then they'll tell me I don't know God like they do or attack me in some other way
Tongues does accomplish one thing and thats to chase new believers away or cause them to chase nonsense
There are 2 different types of tongues, you have your prayer language tongues, that's being talked about in Acts chapter 2, and you have the gift of tongue's that's in 1 Corinthians.
even the gift of interpretation can be faked. 29.32
Come on man Corey was wrong
I was deceived as well for 20 years. Not here to argue or debate. It was simply a man made stronghold and it messed me up. I started reading the scriptures in its entirety, no cherry picking.
@@oztheberean I'm glad you were able to get free "also" my brother. Once you learn how to accurately study God's Word, it's truly life changing and you begin to see how often we make things up that the Bible never intended. But you also see the beauty of God of who He is and what He desires.
@@kkyle9726 1 Cor 14:1-19 are contrasting the gifts of the Spirit with prayer in tongues, the only verses about "prayer in tongues" are *1 Cor 14:2, 14-15, 18,* 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands [him]; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. ... 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is [the conclusion] then? @@studygodsword5937 so what is your point you are implying?
I can see the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we don't know what to pray for. There is warfare tongues that might not be understood by me but I'm being moved by the Holy Spirit. I ask God to give Me understanding and he does so too help me learn his ways. Sam is right on target.
Warfare tongues/languages isn't a concept that exists in scripture, but rather the Holy Spirit will make intercession on our behalf.
Dont forget- There are tongues of men, known and unknown depending on the hearer
But most importantly is "tongues of angels" in 1 cor 13:1 which are tongues that are completely unknown to any man
And 1 Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for NO MAN understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
And in context of this unknown tongue: 1 Cor 14:4
“He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church"
I DO feel edified when I pray in private in tongues to God!
Tongues are mostly meant for our personal prayer life
"Forbid not to speak in tongues "
I agree we don't seem to have the 9 manifestations of the Spirit miracles, tongues, interpretation, healings, prophecy, ect like the early church did (1 Cor 12:8-10)
The early church had these on command!
I won't say that tongues have stopped, but all tongues I have ever heard were unbiblical and out of order.
People who do whatever they can to dismantle the truth about tongues, are ignorant of the purpose of the gift of tongues used in certain instances.
Paul said ,”FORBID NOT TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES”
……pay attention to what Paul said,Jude 20….and as far as being build up according to 1 Corinthians 14:3-6 ….We have so many testimonies of people experiencing the results of praying in the spirit. The scripture states,” The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth”…..and knowing the truth one needs to be intimate with the truth prayerfully.
the signed gifts ended when the church was established among the gentiles & the canon is closed
So that is two different events at very different times....so which one is it?
@@BEABEREAN10 prophacy (another signed gift) also ended..thus we don't add to scripture

To give me chapter and verse, you would also be saying that knowledge has also passed away ! *THE SAME VERSE !*
YOU MIGHT WANT TO STICK TO THE WORD !
What then does 1 cor 14:22 mean then if tongues are for personal prayer language or even for the church
