RIP, Christopher Reeve. He made us believe that a man could fly.
Don't forget RIP Margot Kidder as well.
@@eamonndeane587 She didn't make me beleive a man could fly? I mean, you got me? Who's got you?
@@DNOstalgia "BYE BYE BABY!!!"
Hi Shaine long time no see
I’ll always love Christopher Reeves. He was an amazing Superman and a fantastic gentleman and I liked how he was always proud of Superman and willing to be associated with that role.
I think it looks exactly like him from the side. And the costume is amazing. It's out of my price league but I wouldnt complain if I received it as a gift. I think he's the most iconic superhero and Chris is superman as far as I'm concerned.
Great review Oliver!! I have this guy and whilst I completely agree that the suit is done very well, I do wish it had stayed closer to the prototype and didn’t have the strange seam around the jaw line that shouldn’t be necessary for a sculpted portrait. It’s still a great collectible to look at and It’s awesome that your friend got you such an awesome gift. :-)
I'd love to have that Superman statue. It looks great.
Just going from what I see on social media, he's still Superman to most people because he thoroughly earned it. He made us believe a man could fly.
Christopher Reeve will always be my Superman.
Ditto
When you see a Supes comic book cover drawn by Ross Andru and Dick Giordano , you can see Chris Reeve portrait and I, m refering to those comics before the film was done.
What I've found is when a sculpt tries to go outside a neutral expression, it becomes much more subjective as to how that will meet with each fan's idea of that character versus the sculptors intent. In this case it becomes difficult because with that rye smile, the eyes become a factor in interpreting what the smile means. I can see why people didn't like the initial prototype because the eyes were so narrow and off setting, it appears like he has an expression of sarcasm. The problem here is he has that expressive mouth but a neutral set of eyes and eye brows, so he kinda looks like someone slipped something in his drink. The eyes are not expressive with the mouth so they give him that glazed over stare.
I would be terribly nervous to own something that expensive. It is a very good likeness of Christopher Reeve, though I do wish there was a head that had that charming smile of his. When he did that smile as Superman, you knew everything was going to be fine. Also, good on Mister Harper's friend to provide him such an amazing gift.
Not being able to recreate the pose of Chris pointing to the sky is a ludicrous oversight. Very nice figure though, I can't deny it.
I think with a repaint, it might look more like him. The lips and cheeks are too pink it something.
From the side, it looks amazing, though.
The fact is he was and always will be the perfect Superman. He looked, acted and embodied everything the character stands for. Goodness pure plain and simple goodness. They can try to CGI him into a movie all they want it won't be the same. And yes we all know how they did it in his movies but that hasn't stopped me from believing a man can fly.
Recently I went back and watched the original Superman movie again and was surprised to see that I was that wonderful combination of excited teary-eyed and emotional as soon as I saw him step out of the daily planet building in order to catch the helicopter. The original theme song still gets me.
There is something about this sense of wonder and aspiration to be something better that has been lost on our recent superhero movies. The new ones just aren't very heroic.
I'll tell you my story. I bought Sideshow's "premium format Superman figure" after this video and I really enjoy it so far. Excellent review brilliant statue! 10:01
The science of head sculpts is something I'd like to learn about. I saw a spot on life-size statue of Chris as Superman in Los Angeles in 2011, when the L.A Times hosted a special showing of the Director's Cut of Superman II with Richard Donner being interviewed... amazing event. But when working at smaller scales, there seem to be challenges. I had the Hot Toys version back in 2011 too. I'm happy you showed it in this video. I gave it to a friend and haven't seen it in a long time.
I've ordered a 1/4 scale Captain America statue that really looks like Chris Evans. Looking forward to receiving it next year.
Thanks for this very interesting video. I'm happy you like this statue!
I love your love for the Reeves films Always been there since the start of the channel
Seeing this statute next to Neca Superman makes me realize how thin the body is on it. Plus the hair is too big. Chris almost looks like he is on his way to hang out with John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. Great review my friend. I think you just sold me on picking one up now!!!
Thanks for your feedback Jonathan!
I think it looks great. V accurate. The only thing I would want changing is to have the shield made of material like an earlier sideshow model (with the Hoover Dam) . Have loved your movie reviews.
❤ When I wrote a song about Chris Reeve after he passed, the lyric that first came to me was "Because of you so many lives are changing. Far above the earth, again you're flying."
Christopher Reeve is Superman #enufsaid
Just bought the Mezco One that you showed at the beginning from a store in Bury and I'm now the proud owner of one.
Wonder if we get a Famous UA-cam Movie Reviewer OLIVER HARPER Statue.....🤔🙂
Love your Superman 2 t-shirt. Actually you holding the head by itself it looked spot on, must be the shadows cuz it does look different in light.
Nice take. Love this and the 1/6 figure. Watch those at the window in direct sunlight 👌🏻
When you look from the side looks perfectly like Christopher Reeve but when you look frontwards it looks like a mix of Reeve with Brandon Routh . ..correct if i'm wrong ?
Definitely seeing Routh in there. The eyes, the mouth perhaps.
@@bhamacuk yeap...weird
Just received this statue , and I’ll say it’s 💯 reeves what’s really throwing it off is the paint work his cheeks are to blushed. It’s more of an animation paint job , I’m having it repainted with one of if not the best artist in the figure/statue community. Your video is fantastic you seem like a very pleasant dude bro..made me go ahead and pull the trigger on him. The pose and suit it so good must have in hand to really make a honest opinion
Arnie Kim captured Christopher Reeve Head Sculpt Perfectly in both Action Figures and Statues. Facts!!!!
Merry Christmas my guy
Will you be buying (or showing on your channel) the new Christoper Reeve Superman and Clark Kent 1:3 scale duo statue that just went up for preorder by JND Studios?
11:51
What's this? Superman still hungover after a big night out? lol
Thanks for the review, nice one.
Foolish of me not buying the hot toys special edition with the Kryptonite chain. When you see opportunities like those, never let them pass.
A True Classic
🦸🏻♂️
It kind of looks like a combination of Brandon routh and Chris. Chris and Mark Hamill have been elusively hard to capture right.
Excellent video. I want one !
My man, do you have any idea how many hours I have listed to you through my AirPods when on the water? It doesn't matter what you review or talk about, I just listen. Your content is consistent every time and has always felt that way.
Yes. And Santa also really exists.
I wonder about sideshow sometimes. I mean I've only been sculpting for about 3 years and even my Christopher Reeve sculpt looks better than that. I would expect someone who's actually being paid to do so would do a better job. Their Crow figure is pretty good though even if its off a bit as well.
I hope Hot Toys makes a Sixth Scale Christopher Reeve figure with that same Costume look alike because the one made in 2011 looks different I hope Hot Toys Showcases it at San Diego Comic Con because I know Sideshow won’t be at San Diego Comic Con This Year sadly 😢
When I just saw the body without the head I thought Brandon Routh. The face is Routh Reeve kinda
Reeve's Superman captures the feel of hope that todays versions failes at totally.
For $500 to $600 is the best we are going to get for now. If you want a perfect 1/4 Christopher Reeve Superman...they go for $8,000. There is a guy who makes perfect Superman Reeve and the 3 bad guy figures, there is a UA-cam video where you can see his work.
His name is ARNIE KIM.
if christopher reeves and oscar de la hoya had a child. this would be him.
The statue looks great! If you could only swap out the head from the Sideshow Collectibles that would be awesome! Btw, very cool Superman: The Movie T-shirt! 😁💯
Where did u get your Superman t shirt ?
Next: collectible of SuperGran
Subscribed now Oliver and enjoying your channels content, Smart and interesting and well produced, Please keep adding these wonderful uploads, Wishing you more success going forward, I will definitely look out for more from you,
Here for the long haul of your creative journey 😀👍 🎬⭐
This Hot Toy is excellent!!!
It's a cool statue, man 🙂
Super video!
Just watching the video, it does look pretty impressive. I feel it comes down to the eyes. The eyes seem to have an artificial reflection painted on? Or is that the lighting at your place? Not sure how they are made. Perhaps if it was a mixture of white and clear acrylic around the eyes and some blue recessed into the pupils it could look a little more screen accurate. Eyes are tricky on statues and busts. Otherwise, I think this looks pretty good! Cheers.
With all the Superman videos you've made over the years, I'm surprised you've never reviewed Steel (1997)
Cool shirt.
It's because I'm a huge Reeve Superman fan is the reason I passed on this HUGE miss of a statue.
You should check out our latest video on this figure!
Great review 12 inch figure hot toys where suit was wrong cape to small but nice head seen fantastic suits made cost a fortune tho. my fave is 7 inch necca
This doesn't look like Chris it's very expensive so don't see point in things that expensive items but the head looks strange nice suit stuck on chest S again and pose is good nice base
Wow!! He looks like Christopher Reeve to me.
I have a question for you Oliver: Have you ever consider reviewing the Pink Panther film series?
Whats the price
Very cool. And I appreciate your T-shirt.
Let me just say I’ve never bought a sideshow piece. And statues I have were by DC Direct from the late 90’s. And no where near the price of sideshow. I have a Superman vs Maxine statue I paid 195 for back in ‘98. And I thought that was expensive. I have Both Ross’s KC full size statues that I picked up on eBay cheep back in the day as well. And they both retailed for 250 a piece. But I thought if I was ever gonna buy a sideshow, it would be this 1. And I did the monthly payments. And then the delays started. I was
Originally suppose to get this last year. But I received emails saying delay after delay. I still haven’t gotten it. They haven’t taken my last payment. Not sure why yet. I do think for the prices of the piece, they could be more transparent. On the forums I got trolled each time I asked a question . They just said I should get use to it. I told them it will be my first and last sideshow piece. Unless they somehow do a Alex Ross piece. The photos I’ve seen, I think it looks great. You can tell they’ve adjusted the paint some. The previous statue they did of him didn’t look like him as
Much as this does. I do think in an environment it’s no doubt who it it’s. The stance and hair. You’re right about how hard it is to capture him. I’ve tried twice and it’s always been off in some way. I can’t wait to get it. But I doubt I’ll ever buy one again. I have bills to pay lol
I'm not sure why getting the face sculpt correct is so difficult. It should be as simple as scanning a photo of Christopher Reeve's face then uploading it into a program that will send the information to a 3D printer.
Still the best superman movie
wow it think spot on bit out my price range
Even if I HAD the money, I’d probably pass on this one. For that outrageous price, it looks like one is only paying for the costume more than the facial resemblance.
I do friggin love your hair do mate! 😎😎😎😁😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That's one of the downsides of collectables, the cost. Will they be making a Helen Slater Supergirl model?
Looks great! Im just about to pre order from sideshow the Clint Eastwood Legacy collection "man with no name" figurine!
Where did you get that Superman The Movie shirt?
The S emblem is a sad sticker!!! This, and the lack of resemblance between his face and Reeve's, leave this very expensive figure without any interest...
Looks more like Brandon Routh
The likeness is off. It's more like an imposter or impersonator. Close but a lot of room for improvement. Although the profile is much, much better. The facial paint application is weird like he has blusher. The quality of the symbol on the cape is dreadful. The stance is spot on though! Still it probably looks impressive in the flesh and displayed.
Thanks for the review on the statue. I won’t be getting it. I think it’s too much for it. But I feel the same way about merchandise with Christopher Reeve as Superman. He’s the only celebrity I’ve cried when I learned he passed away.
Fun fact ,the only reason the Earth continues to spin is because Chris got tired of sitting in that chair and took his place among the stars....prove me wrong I dare you
No doubt, hot toys reeve is the best accurate figure
Great figure, And really like seeing a robin hood prince of thieves poster in the background haha fucking adore that movie
👍
I got mine too. Still haven’t unboxed it yet.
I'm thankful I got the hot toys deluxe back in the day. My first hot toy and it still looks the most like him to me.😇
Where did you get your T-Shirt?
I made it myself! As you can't officially buy shirts with the movie logos on them I went ahead and produced my own. Easy to do, just find a high res logo online and slap it on a shirt.
With all the great work you've done it's sad to hear you can't afford to buy something like this. I know you can afford it but I guess it's more commit the money to it.
Loving the arrow posters behind 👌🏻
My copy of Robin Hood 4K turned up that day of recording so I put it on the wall, its a great new poster.
@@OliverHarper I agree it’s a beautiful set and a great restoration.
Do you like Superman and Lois?
I'd love to see a Rich Evans parody of this
I was going to give a thumbs up, and then I got this quick memory flash of a R5D4 toy. Any idea where I would have got that idea?
Because I don't think I would appreciate seeing a repeat of that...
Blue milk,
I know what that is! 100%
Another great video Oliver, I'm waiting for the Sasha Calle Supergirl Figures for next year's The Flash hope they do some.
Sorry hot toys version destroys this one
Looks great but the face really does look like Brandon Ralph’s Superman!
It's the mouth - something a little awry.
The status with him with stubble looked brilliant 👏
Prototype was amazing. I'm so devastated, I really wanted this.
I think I can see what's wrong with the eyes.. they're slightly looking off in different directions, obviously only noticeable from the front. Pretty damn good overall though.
Disgrace to Christopher....epic fail.
The cape doesn’t sit right on his shoulders. Just too bunched up. Missing that regal look.
I have other Superman statues that I love, and I wanted to get this one because I was a "huge" fan of CR when I was a kid, but after seeing the final product I decided to call it off simply because his portrait looked to me more of a good toy of Christopher than an accurate statue, but I still think he looks good enough from afar... Hard to be picky when he was a gift after all. Enjoy him.
Quero um
Your cat is adorable
I think it's great, in expense but also a quality build / present / collectible
I did have a hot toys superman years,I sold it, always regret doing that but my collection is never ending, check out my collection 👍
Even though the originals look dated, there's still something magical when the music kicks in and you know Superman save the day. Still get that enjoyment today and don't feel same sensation with any of the new films. Christopher Reeve is Superman, even if this figure isn't 100% perfect it encapsulates the character well. The pose looks great, I keep expecting him to talk
Alien 3 has fans?
✨Oliver this is good stuff buddy I got to say from the front he looks like Henry and from the side he looks like Christopher✨
Really love John Williams' music in the background. That's about 99% accurate. Regardless of lighting, it's really lovely how they've captured even a tad of Christopher Reeve's lovely charm. He always had such magic to him and it's truly timeless. Absolutely crazy how much it costs though, bloody hell. I mean, you'd expect a life size figure for that much. I heard from one or two bizarre individuals that they paid roughly that for one of those "life like" sex puppets, so come on...😅🤫😝
