- I just received my copy of D for the 3DO, and yes it's 5 CD-R discs. Let's unbox it, and see if it plays on my FZ-10 3DO.

I love the 3do, but this is very funny
Many early drives like this will read CD-Rs, but it puts much more stress on the laser compared to pressed CDs. (On the 3DO, that’s especially true of the FZ-1 models, where many simply don’t read burned discs at all.)
I’ve had CD-Rs kill several drives completely, and you will generally experience longer load times than with pressed discs.
Yep and I won't be playing D on the 3DO until the replacements are sent out. I have had old dreamcasts where after years of reading burned games you need to adjust the laser intensity potentiometer to keep it alive lol.
At 18:22 we get a painting depicting Vlad Dracula. Actually Kenji Eno travelled to Europe & visited several castles to get ideas for this game. In fact Bran Castle is what you see in the background on the title screen. So many memories with "D". I played it over & over until I collected every item, got all 4 endings, found all 9 beetle locations, & saw every cut scene. Too bad Limited Run didn't physically release "D" for modern consoles. Kenji Eno's games need a new lease on life & this would have been a good starting point.
Woah that's awesome! I'll definitely be playing it once the new disc's arrive. I suppose I could play my Saturn copy as well. But yeah I do wish they had a re-release too.

Looks like a counterfeit crap to me. Limited Run orders printing legit Blu-Ray discs for PS4 on official SONY DADC factory. But can't put an order for stamped CD-ROM's? Seriously? What's more important - stamped discs would be:1 ) cheaper than CD-R's (unless LR just buy stockpile of shitties CD-R's in a bulk), 2) way more reliable, 3) last longer.
It really is mind-boggling. Glad they are planning on sending out replacements.
Not an excuse, but CDs are legacy. Blu-Rays are a current format, which means more options for getting discs made.
@@TexasHollowEarth And CD's are still pressed in millions.... CD technology became way more advanced than it was in 90's. And it also become cheap as dust, because you no longer have to put so much effort to produce perfect quality CD-ROMs, which will last decades.
@Ashen2501 - .... still, less facilities to manufacture CD pressed discs vs Blu-Rays in 2024. CD shit is legacy media, now. Vinyl is also popular, but not what I'd call common.
@@TexasHollowEarth If you'd remember - ALL CD-ROM's for PlayStation and PlayStation 2 were printed ONLY on Sony's DADC factories. And these factories alone were enough. So IF Limited Run wish to get a properly stamped CD-ROM's for their releases, they can easily get these in any amount they want, they just have to place an order and pay for it. SONY still produce CD's on the same factories as DVD's and BD's^_^
I'm kinda suprised it works, haha. So LRG actually burnt the discs on 1x speed in order for them to be played on real 3DO. Commendable 😂 must've taken ages

@@RetroGamePlayers 1x is preferable but I doubt they have such slow disc drives left, so probably higher but that makes it more prone to errors
It takes a little over an hour. My first burner was a 2x. LGR is right, burning slower for older consoles does work.
The 3DO didnt have any security on the discs or console itself you could just copy them and play any game from cd-r
Yeah for sure. I don't think they even thought about people having the means to burn disc's back then. Sega CD was the same way.
.... for Karaoke CD-compatibility. It crippled Sega. The Saturn + Dreamcast can run CD-Rs, straight-up. Saturn needs a modchip or region bypass cart for games from other regions tho. PC-Engine CD/TurboGrafx CD and Sega CD can run games on CD-Rs, too..... no mod!
I remember getting D from the video shop to play on the playstation, graphics were amazing, but it ran so slowly you couldn't really enjoy it.

D is timeless. I have it for the 3DO, but I need to add it to my Saturn games. Too bad LRG botched this whole thing. Doesn't exactly build confidence with us classic collectors. Oh well. Keep this shit retrooooooo, brother!!

These guys scumbaged us all !! Even if it works it's a garbage copy . I could have made everyone a copy just as good with books and everything for just 4 bucks or less .

I didn’t ordered D from Limited Run. At the time of the release I didn’t have a 3D0. I got a 3D0 about 2 months ago. The GoldStar version. I wonder if it would work?

A couple of years ago I played this game in its entirety on my Saturn, it was very difficult to do without a guide. It’s the type of game that is so bad it is hilarious. Very weird as well. Then I sold it since I would never play it again. It was hilarious to play with a friend.
