Standard forks are honestly very straightforward and I think anyone can do them, that combined with race tech and other companies offering springs for these things even from 2003 and older mean you really can dial in the suspension, which imo is the most important thing you can do to your bike.
I have normally started by suspending the front of the bike from the garage roof, and / or having the engine resting on wooden blocks. . . . I think the secret is being methodical, and having space on the floor or bench to lay all the bits and pieces out in order. Don't be in a rush. Another good video. 👍
It'd probably pull down the ceiling tbh in there, it doesn't seem strong :D Wooden blocks do work great! Yes, slow and steady and patient, easy peasy :) Thank you!
Great vid mate. I have been trying to get motivated to do the front forks on the GPZ750. But it needs a few extra things done (getting rid of some 80's tech). I am like you, I do not want to start other projects until I get the (GPZ 750, Aprilia RSV and Aprilia SR50R) completed first. Yes I have way too many projects..
Thank you sir. I wish more people thought that way 😂 You should do them, what I do is set aside 2 hours a night and even if I'm sitting and thinking in the garage then I'm doing that. Do anything interesting or just internals etc? Yeaaaaaah I need to button up these three as well 😂
Nice tutorial. Well done. So will you e keeping the z900? I don't know what insurance is like in the US but here in Canada we don't have multi bike policies meaning all motorcycles carry there own insurance which can get very expensive. I still have the Ibex 800 but have changed the FJ-09 for a BMW R1200RT. Much more of a touring bike. It's a 2010 but when I bought it it had 10000 kms on it. I really find it hard to understand how a 14 year old bike can only have less than 1000kms (600miles) put on it in a year. I have already put well over 2000kms on it and I have owned it for 2 weeks. Stay safe out there Michael and keep the rubber side down.
Thanks Ian! I think I'll be able to, it's definitely the bike most at risk currently tho. Insurance for bikes here is actually fine, otherwise it'd already have to be gone. It's about a 3rd of the price for the bikes as it is for 2 cars. Which is madness. Still liking the Ibex? I'd love to try one if I'd more space and money 😂 Oh very nice congrats! I've always liked those. Haha I know, it's madness really. When I went over to WV for 3 days I did about 1800km total 😂😂 You too! Enjoy the new bike :)
Interesting! I want to turn my SV650 into a scrambler. Is it possible (without braking the bank) to get between 30 and 70 mm longer suspension travel front and rear? Thanks!
I honestly wouldn't know, definitely not with the stock setup tho so you'd be getting expensive already as you'd be needing longer travel forks, longer shock and different shock linkages. I have no idea on the feasibility tho sorry!

That oil level tube tool is so cool, honestly the whole process doesn't look too terrible but I feel like you make everything look easy 😂
It's very handy. Makes things much faster. It's honestly grand! Not difficult at all!

How in the world did you get that fork cap on in one seamless motion without effort?!
@@markfortin8286 hahahaha practice 😂😂😂 Too much practice, and I'm told by my wife I have very heavy arms, that may have helped.

@@TheGorillaBiker Thank you. Even you telling me that you don't know and that it will be expensive was valuable. :)
@@stefanhansen5882 Always happy to help if I can :)
