It's a Carrera so it sounds smoother than a normal 356. Carreras had roller bearings and the rest of the Porsche lineup had pushrods. The roller bearings make it faster and smoother but, according to what I've heard, are a monstrous repair job when they go bad.

Very nice, I was surprised to see the knock offs on the wheels, and I was also surprised there were no extra Carrera louvers on the engine lid.
louvers were available on GT models. This is a Carrera deLuxe, but with missing air-filters…😉
The knockoffs are Rudge wheels. Also used on Mercedes and others. Pretty pricey today. The Carrera definitely has more beans than my 59 Super did.

Der 100 PS Carrera kann einem gut gehenden Super 90 oder auch einem SC kaum davon fahren können, aber die Drehwilligkeit des Königswellenmotors ist legendär…😎

My Dad had a 1959 Red Porsche. He traded it (for a Buick!) before I was 16, so I never got to drive it. SO sad!!

I was wondering the same, I don't think it's normal. Probably not original, could be from a Beetle.
That’s how they are. The 356 was born out of the beetle. I had a 59 Super coupe. 75 hp. The shifter was a bit disappointing but it was nearly impossible to miss a shift. The synchronization was buttery smooth.
