I saw this song pop up on social media and I was amazed. No many people know this tune and I get a kick out of watching other people's face because mine was the same.
I'm from a younger generation and I love Scorpions. This song features Uli Jon Roth who's the pioneer of neoclassical metal popularized by Yngwie Malmsteen. Uli is the main influence to Yngwie and Marty Friedman (Megadeth). BTW, can you react to Marty Friedman - Rio?
Ulrich ROTH was just coming in to his own distinctive neo classical Hendrix influenced guitar style.. he was in his early 20s. He admits a deep appreciation of GERMAN COMPOSERS. OF Course keyboard players like genesis deep purple etc. were influenced by classical music but neo classical electric guitar was very much on the fringe. I had maybe only heard it from the band FOCUS in 1974 circa although there were jazz elements with that guitarist. Then along came the scorpions uli jon and he was becoming a major trendsetter. He was the hottest metal guitarist of that era . Then came EVH randy rhoads and eventually yngwie. Very exciting for heavy metal players because it had exotic scales.and shred qualities. And yes Marty Friedman was one of the best of the gen x shredders.
Hi guys, the great Uli Roth playing there when he was with the Scorpions. If you's want something different, even though this is way late for a comment, have a look at The Warning and their version of Enter Sandman Live version, you might be surprised. They are Three sisters from Monterey and I think they are impressive. Thankyou for The sails of Charon. Cheers.
Weird. You guys are the best review I've seen so far. I even looked past your initial grimace as Uli was hitting his freaky at the start. It's an acquired appreciation. :-)
... and the whole metal scene. This piece of music has more ideas for metal music that metal bands could have ever hoped including one of the first pure metal shredding examples. You can also see why Yngwie Malmsteen developed a liking towards creme coloured Fenders.
Klaus had throat issues during the late 70s. Corrective surgery brought his voice back gradually and the 80s he settled into a less damaging vocal style that fortunately he has increased hi longevity. Not a big fan of the more commercially based decade.
@@InfinityGrooves Thanks, looking forward to it! You guys know your Scorps… I’d like to see your take on some of their newer stuff that gets overlooked
I'm 54 and this is one of my fav early Scorps tunes that I heard from my older bro's records back in the 70s.
SCORPS RULE!!! GERMAN ROCK N ROLL FORCE!!! GREETZ FROM DEUTSCHLAND

Early Scorpions was some of the best rock music being produced at the time, this song is proof. Listen to Tokyo Tapes.
