Yeah, part of the point was simply that Roy was losing himself to his rage, a lot like how Scar did. It's easy to do when you have a justified reason to be angry. But it's hard to stop. It's VERY MUCH intended that what happens to Envy is satisfying because it puts us in the same mindset as Roy; we want to see Envy get roasted for everything he's done. Yet I'd say the way Envy went out is WAY more satisfying. He lost the ability to manipulate ANYONE at the end. At the very least, getting murdered by Roy would have fit with how he kept starting conflicts by riling up humans with his actions. But here... all that's taken away. And just this little shrimp is left, who's just been COMPLETELY figured out by the humans he envied. Mustang might have been roasting Envy's body but Ed's words INCINERATED Envy's will to live.
I get all that but I will be forever disappointed and unsatisfied by it. That's why JJK is above FMAB for me(possible spoiler ish ahead), I love the story but I don't really care for the philosophical aspects too much. I mean, nobody stopped Yuji because he might "lose himself" at any point in the story. Sometimes a beat down is just a beat down, it wouldn't have mattered in the grand scheme of things. Sure the way envy actual went out was alright but I would have preferred to see Envy roasted by Roy to the end, fully fulfilling what he set out to do for Hughes and for himself.
Fun fact: Roy Mustang is the last existing flame alchemist, because of how dangerous flame alchemy is. Lust and Envy's incineration proves it. Any person who can change the composition of a body to be flamable, or the composition of water to make it hydrogen... is fucking scary.

Meaning he saw it coming, it didn't surprise him. So if they didn't want to do a cool anime moment out of that, then Mustang would've just dodged lmao. But because they wanted to make it a cool anime moment, Mustang somehow knew that that last his would stop her attack just in time. So honestly, there was no way this attack hits Mustang, even if she lives for another seocnd, he would've dodged in that case.

I remember reading how the author stated that he likes to lower the oxygen levels to seem heroic in catching fainting women and always thought instead of parlor tricks like that, he should up his oxygen levels to give his own physical capabilities an advantage, so he could react to speedsters like King Bradley. But maybe he never got pushed that far to think of options like that. He wouldve been too scary if he added that trait to his combat skills

Major General Armstrong should also drop her pride and just take her family Alkemy style and etch it on her sword, because competing against Mustang for the seat is a tall order for her after all his growth and experiences mixed with flame alchemy.
