Yamamoto fell for the same thing we did. He fell for the heat of the moment, and didn't notice he was being bamboozled. Still, I always felt he was the protagonist of a previous anime, like before Bleach there was Yamamoto's story and he was the MC.

He didn't fight a clone, he fought someone who could perfectly copy another person, even having their memories. Yama didn't know the difference because there really wasn't any way for him to know. Royd Loyd was just as strong as yhwach, that's why yama couldn't tell the difference.

Personally I think this is how Yama was tricked. The copy yhwatch's ability badically copies Yhwatch down to the smallest of details to where even if you were to see both of them standing side by side you couldnt tell the difference except the copy wouldnt have access to the almighty while the real one would. Also you could also make the argument that Yama in present day is a alot less ruthless and sharp then he was back when he face Yhwatch the first time around. So the copy would be good enough to where Yama couldnt tell the difference

Kubo has done such an injustice to Seretei and Yamamoto. He makes it look as if the captain's only have the ability to use zanpakuto... These guys also have kido and martial arts. Very underwhelming writing.. no a single spell or flash step. Or sword technique. Weak plot

Alot of people are just now realizing that Genryusai Yamamoto is that nigga.
