- A friendship nurtured over a decade begot SNI Editor-in-Chief Nitin Gokhale scooping an interview with the new President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, just days after his election. In this edition of 'Our Take' with SNI Deputy Editor Parul Chandra, Nitin Gokhale share details of how the world exclusive came about and the plans of the new President of the strategically located Indian ocean island nation, both in the domestic and international arenas. Gokhale describes Gotabaya as a straight-talking man, a disciplinarian (given his army background) and his love for technology. Indeed, he said the Sri Lankan leader is a "technocrat" who may not be a mass leader like his elder brother and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa but has a clear vision on how he plans to bring about development in his country. This 'Our Take' also notes that now that there has been a sort of rapprochement between the Rajapaksa brothers and the Indian establishment, New Delhi needs to build on this to have robust ties with Colombo. At the same time, New Delhi will need to be pragmatic in its approach as the Gotabaya government will be equally receptive to China as it will be to India, says Gokhale.

Truth about a person can only be revealed through a closer acquaintance. BBC should learn how to report the truth not agendas.
BBC is fake news. It's a fact...
The interview with the new President is superb, a must watch. The new President Rajapaksa is the most progressive, most tech savvy, and the most connected President to the current and the future of the world. This is the kind of leader who understands the younger generation, their aspirations, and a clear vision of what Sri Lanka would be. The appeal in part is that he understands the east and the west both having held a position of responsibility On HIS OWN MERIT in the West, which no other Sri Lankan President had any track record of. To me, a career politician who has never lived the life of an ordinary citizen on his own merit has only limited experience to offer, and can be easily musguided by those around him. Man of the world!
Thank you for your interview. Key to build the relationship when people out of power Keep in touch. GR is people’s man with technocrat background with military and IT background. Without Indians help Sri lanka wouldn’t have won the war. Well the flip side of the coin is that Sri lanka would have won the war a long time ago if India hadn’t assisted the Tamil Tigers insurgency Tamil separatists groups financed and trained by India.

ALL ‘BUDDHISTS’ RESPECT AND PREY TO HINDU GODS.(when they want material, power or positions)
Because in Buddhism you can’t request material things, power or positions .
That is considered greed.
Only your good actions will deliver good karma.
Also Buddhists believe in karma. You are never forgiven for actions which you later repent.
MUST KNOW :
You are responsible for your actions and this will have consequences.

@@kennydave438 you are more Buddhist than the proclaimed ones. Walking the talk is part of Buddha's teachings. Practice away from the cusion, away from the temple, in daily lives, which I find is very rare in 50% of Buddhists in Sri Lanka.
Buddhism is quite esoteric, and to practice the middle way is very difficult for the laymen.
