  • Ryan and Luke give their first impressions on the new Chasing Innovation's Dory. In this video we review the new ROV that we tested on an all-day ice fishing trip west of Thunder Bay and it definitely did not disappoint! Its light, compact and easy to drive with tons of battery life, great for those little adventurers and the rest of the family.
If you want to pick one of these up, check out www.chasing.com today.
Our research lab also has a facebook page where we share more of our day-to-day events and cool, up and coming research. / lakeheaduniversitycaris
If you have questions about the Dory or any of the other ROVs drop a comment or send us a message. And from all of us here at CARIS, happy holidays!!

Let me address some of the issues. I did order a controller and it gives you not only joysticks, but also variable lights & easily adjustable angle.
You can also use clip in game controller joysticks that clip onto your phone or tablet ( under $10 each) As for "parking" the Dory to watch a specific object it works better to be in a level attitude because it takes the horizontal vector out of the depth hold function. It could drift with current, but most of the time it will stay put. For tether management I use a plastic hand reel (available from Bass Pro for under $4)
. I have 20 meters of 30# test fishing line on it first which I can clip to the buoy. ( I zip tied a swivel to the buoy end of the tether to clip it to.)
I think Chasing's thought of only a 15 meter tether was because that is the maximum depth is is rated for.

If you mean the bungee cord, it just clips to the bouy if you have it float in the water and the other end to you or your boat/dock/something else so that it doesn't get too far away ;)

Is there a 12V charger for the Chasing Dory?

Not that we have seen. But the power adapter has a removable 110v plug. Im sure there are ways to adapt to a 12v input. If you are looking to charge in your vehicle you could look at getting the 12-110v transformer that plugs into the 12v port in most vehicles.
