- During storm on March 3, 2019 where elevation plays a major role. Warm air aloft turned precipitation into freezing rain in Silver Creek (at 10:00) and heavy sleet towards Soaring Eagle (at 16:00). Bottom of mountain was 31° with a coating. Top of mountain, at Soaring Eagle, was 27° with 3" of snow/sleet. Driving Jeep Grand Cherokee with All Terrain, Snowflake Symbol rated tires.
Thanks for posting your drive. I read Snowshoe is like being in the West and I wanted to compare the drive to Tahoe.
Thank you for taking the time to post this !!
You're welcome
I rode a skateboard from top to bottom once :) oh the good ol days!
4 high or 4 low goin up the mountain you think? We are heading there on Thursday 😬
They do a great job plowing roads but if snow covered, 4H with traction control 'Off'. You need momentum and traction control will not allow you to get speed. Once you get to the top, you can turn traction control back 'On'.
I’m going in a few days & I’m not a fan of mountains, but overall it seems okay
Just back from the resort. Make sure you bring a snow shovel with you if you park outside. Only few hotels have indoor parking.
Im thinking to go in begining of january...let me know if its good resort
Planning trip to snowshoe in late January. Would there be any need to drive the truck for 4WD or would we be ok in my wife’s rear wheel drive SUV?
Ideally 4wd would be needed if actively snowing. Most of the time, however, roads are kept pretty clean by Snowshoe.
Hi, Driving up in late February in a 2wd Car for four nights. I know it's ideal to have 4wd but I feel that I will be fine if I just watch the weather and don't drive after a storm or when it's actively snowing hard. I saw a few 2wd cars driving on the road. What do you think?
Yes, definitely do not attempt the drive up if roads are snow covered. If snow has stopped, wait a few hours at the bottom until you see some improvement. They are very good at cleaning the roads, especially after a snowfall.
hey are trip is tomorrow do you think a ford explore would be a good choice? or its a bad choice because we are mainly worried about going down that's the bad part
I think an explorer will be fine tomorrow. Tires and tread depth play a big role though too.
Can a 12 passenger make the trip? i saw a few in front
If slushy, probably. If snow covered, the key is your tires. A snow tire can't be beat, but an all season with good tread, may be okay. Rear wheel drive will also be an issue though. Luckily Snowshoe is good at keeping roads cleared and cindered.
