- Gary Ablett Jnr takes us down memory lane with a look back at his debut AFL game in round one of 2002. A mere 18 years since he first pulled on the Hoops, the Geelong Cats player remembers the nerves of that big game.

I was there that night and still feels like yesterday. The Geelong faithful was very excited about what could be. Was sitting on the 50 metre line watching Ablett scramble for that first goal. Bartel and David Johnson also debuted that night, one of them taking a big hit if I remember correctly.

I remember watching 1:47 and wishing he kicked a miraculous goal, like his old man did on countless occasions. Can't believe he first started playing AFL when I was 16 in year 10 and now I'm 34 and he just retired. Incredible achievement in it's self to have a career that long.

The fact that 3 hardened bombers defenders couldn't bring a kid in his first game to ground was a glimpse of the future.
