Link’s uncle- the last of the knights of hyrule, armed with his sword, shield, and spin attack, goes to rescue the princess *dies instantly in the room with no monsters*
In the graphic novel of A Link to the Past, we see Link's Uncle fight Agahnim, only to be easily beaten (the whole sword cannot physically harm him thing). Too bad it's not shown like that in the game. You might be able to find the graphic novel at F.Y.E. or you can find it on Amazon like I did.
I have literally played eight of the 20-something games and they always have a way of making my heart hurt with melancholic and bittersweet feelings every time I play. I love them so much, i plan to collect them all as I get older
They didn’t from the very beginning, but it has been around since the late 90s, thought at that time only internally at Nintendo. It doesn’t “smack” of retcon because all games after Ocarina have been made in the context of the timeline at Nintendo, so it hasn’t been retrconning, it’s just been story telling
Stan talent okay think about this Monsters inc had a follow up called monster university before the events of monsters inc. so it’s a prequel. Now apply that logic to botw. I’m pretty sure it will be a direct sequel.
Stan talent it said sequel, and sequels always come after the one before it. If it had said “The prequel for Breath of the Wild is now in production!”, Instead of sequel, it would have been set before botw
@@Maukiki where do the new links and zeldas come from??? Like do they live happily ever after in one game and then they reincarnate in the next? And if they do how do they get named the same names? Like are they super common names?
My theory: there’s proof that all 3 timelines are now existing in this game, so sometime in the past 10,000 years the timelines conjoined. Ganon, while sealed away in multiple timelines, managed to find a way to fuse all timelines together and gain theoretically 3x his normal power. He then is preparing his most formidable army in Zelda history: the angry cuccos, and will entirely wipe out all existence with his unstoppable army.

people may have just made that detail up. unless that detail is specifically confirmed by nintendo, it's possible that there was just a timeline where there was no ocarina of time hero, which would have played out the same. Rather than link actually being killed.
Link has always "won" Ocarina. It just that in that time line he doesnt exist anymore because he was sent back in time as a child, thus starting a new timeline
Botw: a game where you don't even need a master sword to destroy "Ganon". This video explained it clearly, so allow me to butcher it... there's a top side and an under side, botw happened 10k years later on the top side. Botw 2 is going to explain what was happening on the under side during those 10k years, and why the ganon that emerged on the top side was just a scourge. Botw is a prelude to a new time line, and they have started out 100 years into the new timeline on purpose.
Well, we didn’t know that Calamity Ganon wasn’t actually Ganon. Calamity Ganon *was* destroyed for good, but he was just a projection of the real Ganon (at least that’s what the BotW2 trailer implies).
It’s funny, even though there have been 16 or 17 different Links and Zeldas there have only been three Ganondorf’s. There’s the one in Breath of the Wild/Breath of the Wild 2, the one in Four Swords Adventures, and the original that appears in almost every other game.
Imagine all of the Zelda villains, such as Demise, Ganon/Ganondorf, Vaati, Zant, and whoever else come in during a future game. Pretty sure that would instantly make it my favorite game to date.
The fact that they refuse to show us anything substantial about BOTW 2 makes me think it'll have something like this. We've seen Ganondorf already, so who knows if they'll include the others?
Sckeza Yup. It’s really hard for fresh water fish to live in salt water. Salt water fish need to pump out salt like crazy to survive. Fresh water fish don’t have this ability.
I always thought that the Zoras split in to two tribes ones that went to the surface and became the Rito and ones that survived in the Great Sea. For me BOTW takes place after spirit tracks when for whatever reason the great sea dries up and the four species adapt.
@@redpandazoologic2731 yea. That almost makes sense. That like 95% makes sense. The 5 percent that i don't get is how the Zora were able to just go from fresh to salt water. But I'm not a fish scientist so idk

i highly recommend playing "Wind Waker" and "The Minish Cap". these both are some of the best in the entire series, to me at least. which is kinda uncommon opinion from all i've got... so, yeah... :P some advanced warning: in Wind Waker, the long journeys over the ocean can be tedious and actually a bit scary cuz the ocean is so vast and you just cant see whats underneath you but on the other hand this game has a some of the best mechanics and visual-styles ever (kinda like Breath of the Wild) and some songs like the "Dragon Roost Island Theme" are one of the best in the entire series!
got to be awkward when link warned zelda about ganondorf "is ganondorf here yet" "why?" "hes going to try steal the triforce" "how do you know this" "i came 7 years to the future where you gave me the ocarina of time and i picked up the master sword and i sealed him away when he turned into a pig" "ok a bit weird but i trust you"

BOTW kind acts like the ocean after the river, no matter how wide the river will branch it will always leads into the ocean (or in legend of Zelda's case, no matter how far the timeline will branch all outcome will inevitably lead to the events of Botw)
The split in OoT confused me. But basically the adult timeline is the time that continues after Zelda sends Link back (is stuff Zelda does after she sends him back, and what happens)
I always thought it was ironic the two darkest games in the series were part of the child timeline, while the 3 happiest games were placed in the adult timeline. (Majora’s mask and Twilight Princess in child and Windwaker, Phantom hourglass, and Spirit Tracks in adult)
maybe some zoras took a different path and adapted to live in saltwater? the ones in botw are based off of sharks after all. (but they live in a freshwater lake....... goddamnit. maybe they SOMEHOW managed to evolve to live in both idk. fantasy races are wild man)
My theory is that there was a fourth golden goddess named Goronia who left a separate piece of triforce that the gorons kept for themselves that allowed their specials to never go extinct even through dimensions
Maybe that could be why they’re so mysterious and generally stay by themselves, separated from other people and beings. Power, Wisdom, Courage, and maybe Stability? Perhaps the Gorons embody the aspect of pure Stability, which made them rockish people who can live for hundreds of years as individuals, and gives them strength and control over the earth. Perhaps it’s the fourth and final piece that is supposed to go into the center of the Triforce, but the writers felt it was too much.
Took me a few good times of rewatching to understand the child and adult timelines. I get it now. They both happen at the same time in a sense. As link goes back to his time, the time he left keeps going. Pretty cool especially when playing wind waker
You definitely see that they run concurrently to each other when, in Twilight Princess, Link has to defeat a type of Lich boss to gain access to a certain skill.
Having only recently discovered how much I like Zelda games, I really want a coherent, single, mainline multi game timeline reboot with a concrete beginning, middle, and end.

Cyotey A large percentage of people believe that Nintendo never intended for there to be a Timeline, which is *extremely likely* to be true. But because Zelda fans tried to piece every game together in a timeline, Nintendo decided to make an official timeline themselves. They chose to go with the “split timeline” theory because that was the most speculated explanation by Zelda fans. However, there is virtually no way Nintendo came up with a proper timeline during the creation of the original Legend of Zelda game. It’s not like they *knew* the series was gunna take off and achieve massive success. Another popular explanation Zelda fans had before the timeline; was basically something to the effect of what you said. Every Zelda game was meant to have it’s own individual story. Isn’t that what *legends* are? Stories passed down by tradition that are considered historical but not necessarily verified to be authentic? In other words, every game is simply it’s own *interpretation* of the *story* of Zelda passed down by tradition. It’s in the name! The *Legend* of Zelda! The Angry Video Game Nerd made a video on the Timeline several years back, I suggest you watch it. Not to mention that Nintendo *themselves* stated somewhat recently that the timeline *isn’t* concrete; it is subject to change in the future by *”new discoveries”* or by *fan interpretation.* This is their own words! They’re basically providing evidence that there was never an official timeline that was constructed from the beginning of the time the series was created! I refuse to accept this interpretation of the timeline!
No, there was always a vague sense of a timeline within Nintendo. Pretty sure they never put much thought into it or planned it out but they did always develop each game with a sense of how it relates to others in the continuity. Official statements going all the way back to Link to the Past explicitly linked the games into a single continuity. There are records of this and I lived through most of it so, yeah, I know for a fact most of these games were always connected. Zelda 2 was always a sequel to Zelda 1. LttP was always a prequel to those games (despite Miyamoto's confusion that it was a sequel in one interview, but I think he's representative of the unconcern in Nintendo for continuity, LttP was officially labeled a prequel at the time). OoT was always a prequel to LttP, depicting the Imprisoning War mentioned in LttP's prologue according to official statements. MM is obviously a sequel to OoT. WW is also an obvious sequel to it and during development, Aonuma told us about the child and adult timelines for the first time. TP was stated to be a sequel parallel to WW taking place in the child timeline instead. SS was always a prequel to everything. PH and ST were always sequels to WW. The only games that throw a wrench in everything are the Capcom games MC and FS (and FSA by extention). LA and the Oracle games are side stories and technically could take place together at any point after LttP. So no, the timeline wasn't invented because of fan theorizing. It was always there, but Nintendo was always ambiguous about it. Very few people ever guessed that there could be a third branch though which I think was a convenient ass pull explanation after they wrote themselves into a corner with discrepancies.
They definitively are just that - all connections are made to appease fish frogs who seek meaning where there is none. It's just great fiction, but idiots aren't content with that fact.
@@cl8804 Yeah because Nintendo was probably concerned about appeasing the fans when they made Zelda 2 an actual sequel and then decided by themselves to connect every games to another one chronologically at the time of release. This is not fan speculation, we literally have the series director going out of his way to place the games in the timeline since Zelda 2. Too bad that idiots search no meaning where there is some because they don't want to think about or accept something more complicated than what they expect.
It’s easy to assume the Hylian Civil War was fought to inherit the secrets of the temple of time from the ousted royal family, thus cinching a claim over the triforce. I also always imagined a young gannondorf was somehow involved in this, and upon their defeat was cast into the desert by king hyrule.
When you go to Telma's bar in Twilight Princess and talk to the other heroes before completing the water temple, they'll gossip about how link is dressed like the "ancient hero"
17:07 - This is the moment that spurred me towards learning english. As a 6-7 year old child I was playing that game and got stuck with Zelda not knowing I had to push the shelf behind the thrones. My older sister came in and read the text to help me. At that moment I thought something like "I'm learning this so I can not get stuck again" and I fell in love with the language to the point I find myself thinking in english instead of my native language. I hold this game in the highest of pedestals for that.
Dr Whammo Except she did not make sense of it, as she virtually herself admitted, especially with the unexplained events such as Ganondorf somehow having had the triforce in the Child Hero timeline, and with the unexplained civil wars, the existence of BotW, and the last two games in the Fallen Hero timeline, which as game themselves make no sense either. It's almost like a child wrote the plot for those last two games, to be fairly honest.
I like to believe that the convergence event that brought the timelines together was Ganon's escape. He would've been too weak in any of the other timelines to resurrect or beak his seal, so through sheer will and/or maybe Demise's curse he was able to channel the energy needed to break free by taking from all timeline's what power he had in those timelines. This break out caused the convergence of all timelines and then eventually BoTW happened. sidenote: I'm so hyped for ToTk!!!
The Legend of Zelda has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It's extremely important to me and I consider it one of my favorite games. This made me so happy. I can't wait to see if it matches the timeline that Nintendo released to the public.
It’s funny but I think it means 10,000 years before 100 years before BOTW, or 10,100 years before BOTW. 10,100 years before BOTW, the Zelda of that time oversaw the creation of the Divine Beasts and Guardians. 10,000 years later, Calamity Ganon rises and BOTW Zelda seals him. Then, 100 years later are the events of BOTW. C:
@@koifish_kk "10,100 years before BOTW, the Zelda of that time oversaw the creation of the Divine Beasts and Guardians." I wanna see that game. Because it would have to be after Twilight Princess (editor: you mean Hyrule Warriors).
I'm pretty sure the Zelda who seals Gannon away 10,000 years before BOTW isn't the same one who is in BOTW, so it means 10,000 years before, Zelda and Link seal him away, and 100 years before the game Calamity Gannon has his return and the new Zelda seals her Link away to awake when Calamity Gannon becomes too strong.
Minor correction: The timeline that places Oracle of Seasons/Ages after Link's Awakening also states that it is a new Link in those games. It's only the timeline that places the Oracle games *before* Link's Awakening that states they are the same Link.

Botw is great but I feel TP and lots more just the originals are brilliant , go for it :)
@Syntax Sama Exactly. It supposedly takes place before BoTW but in an alternate universe, since AoC story would not click with the one told in BoTW, especially sine in AoC Zelda is able to awaken the Triforce and half of BoTW is about how Zelda is trying to awaken it.
You guys do realize it IS canon (at least a SEPARATE canon timeline from botw) and it is glaringly obvious. It literally is set "100 years before" implying a direct connection. Everyone knows Zelda is very familiar to timeline splits, and this is one of them.
@Big Daddy Egg I know, but it still felt right pointing it out, especially in regards of the "resurrection" part since they could've always have Calamity Ganon striking once more, OR a completely new villain
@@BigJar and that is why you will never have a complete timeline. that's also why the video doesn't understand where the triforce of power goes after twilight princess...

When it comes to the zora's "evolution" in wind waker, I always thought it was either due to monster infested ocean, or because the ocean itself is one massive seal for old hyrule, so they may have developed a superstitious fear of it, like if they dive too deep, they could get sealed forever.
... and the few who didn't left and stayed a zoras, which is why both are able to exist simultaneously in BOTW. This theory actually makes a lot of sense.
The Zora in OoT are freshwater Zora, and so when the flood began, they could not survive due to the saltwater ocean, eventually evolving into the Rito, so they could fly instead of swim. It's like throwing a freshwater trout into the Pacific and expecting it to survive

There’s no way Nintendo actually had this planned from the start.
This entire timeline smacks of retcon.

My theory: there’s proof that all 3 timelines are now existing in this game, so sometime in the past 10,000 years the timelines conjoined.
Ganondorf will never be a good guys....lol

MasterBlade111 Then why are there Zora at the Great Bay in MM?
True tho
Zelda: Ganondorf, just DIE already!
Ganondorf: No, I don't think I will.

Ganon: Well, yes, but actually no
To the Question why they Seal him: The Curse.
The Curse says when Ganon dies he gets Resurected when a new Zelda and a new Link appear.
They avoid this by not killing, but sealing him. This way it takes much longer for him to appear again.
Also Ganon is horribly hard to kill as he usually can continue to roam around as a spirit for a few centuries before comming back in another body.

yes
Maybe that could be why they’re so mysterious and generally stay by themselves, separated from other people and beings.
Power, Wisdom, Courage, and maybe Stability?
Perhaps the Gorons embody the aspect of pure Stability, which made them rockish people who can live for hundreds of years as individuals, and gives them strength and control over the earth.

Dr Whammo except for the one missing detail: why is war always breaking out? We need a good theory on that one.

10,100 years before BOTW, the Zelda of that time oversaw the creation of the Divine Beasts and Guardians. 10,000 years later, Calamity Ganon rises and BOTW Zelda seals him. Then, 100 years later are the events of BOTW. C:

Zelda and Link sealing Ganon (legend) 10,000 years before botw. 100 before botw they fail to defeat Ganon and link gets put to sleep.
@@koifish_kk "10,100 years before BOTW, the Zelda of that time oversaw the creation of the Divine Beasts and Guardians."
I wanna see that game.

It's not canon, it ocurs on an alternate universe where Zelda is able to awaken her powers earlier.
You guys do realize it IS canon (at least a SEPARATE canon timeline from botw) and it is glaringly obvious. It literally is set "100 years before" implying a direct connection. Everyone knows Zelda is very familiar to timeline splits, and this is one of them.
@@pineconeking2526 so future games could branch off from this particular timeline split too, where botw did not happen?
This was beautifully done and narrated.
Fantastic job all around.

Edit: thanks for these many upvotes.
@Big Daddy Egg
I know, but it still felt right pointing it out, especially in regards of the "resurrection" part since they could've always have Calamity Ganon striking once more, OR a completely new villain
Is your profile picture moving or is it me
I can't wait for Zelda 2: Electric Boogaloo!!!

8:34 first demise and ghariham, second vaati, third ganondorf, Fourth majora, are both Both defeated and now this, WOW.
But how can he be saving princess Zelda if Zelda's the person you play as?
Really?
you're saving princess Peach
Good Becuase the princess Zelda is just a genderbend zelda obviously?
lol
Oh goddesses...
um you forgot legend of zelda monopoly???
it's ok. they forgot A LOT of games.
@@kradrol It's only Canon games that count
@@BigJar and that is why you will never have a complete timeline. that's also why the video doesn't understand where the triforce of power goes after twilight princess...
@@kradrol also I'm pretty sure trifoce heroes isn't Canon
@@BigJar nope. triforce heroes actually IS cannon. and it fits perfectly into the time. (assuming you have all the other games in the right places.)
game theory: Hyrule Warriors fuses all three universes together at the end and then comes the breath of the wild.
Livia I feel like if they make Link timetravel again in BotW 2 they might be able to unite the three worlds, but Link must kinda stop baby Link from doing what he's gonna do and BotW Link must kill Ganondorf or at least find a other way to stop the time travel, but that would mean he stops existing
It's kinda complicate tbh
Probs a bait but hyrule warriors isn’t cannon got he timeline
LOL and now they’re making a thrill warriors game based on botw
This is the best timeline explanation, I love it!!! Your voice is pretty and soothing too. Amazing job!!!
“ why don’t you just kill him instead of sealing him again”
Me: Dude he will just be reincarnated, so sealing him would actually be better than killing him
so how do you think you'd kill the curse that creates Ganon from the single gerudo male born?
@@DUSaggin I don’t know how but link just has to yoink that tryforce of power away from Gannon
@@_lotty..da_528 the demon Demise put this reincarnation curse on Zelda aka Hylia, Link and Ganon aka Demise, without ever even touching the triforce.
@@_lotty..da_528 The curse Demise created is completely unbreakable. Demise is the source of all evil in the Zelda universe, so to defeat Ganon forever would be to defeat evil forever, which is impossible. That's my understanding anyway.
I like how link losing has the best timeline
i know right lol
I think all the timelines are good
It definitely has the most challenging games but idk about best. The first and child timeline got pretty great games.
@ Jake M. Why do you say that?
I feel like Link has that “Kick ass, take names” kind of mindset
20:29 so that's it The evil witch responsible for all the entire mayhem across Hyrule for the craziness
thank you for presenting the video in such a clear and entertaining way. only having gotten into the series because of botw, ive been wanting to understand the time line every zelda fan talks about.
same here! I loved watching this video due to points listed in your comment. I dont have a WiiU so I can't play any influential games like Twilight Princess, etc.
I imagine in smash bros toon link being angry at young link and hitting him with a boomerang for making his grandma make him wear that stoopid outfit.
