For example, in America we say Aluminum. In the rest of the world (which speaks some form of British English) they say Aluminium. Both are accepted, even in science. And that's adding/dropping a whole letter! Pronouncing Giganotosaurus differently isn't a big deal.

    The T-Rex would win

  • @SKMcorporation
    @SKMcorporation 7 років тому +118

Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex were both perfectly capable to kill each other. Size or power difference are not big enough to make clear winner. Winner is the one who is able to bite first on the opponents neck. T-rex would lock its jaws and start crushing, possibly break gigas neck bones or suffocate it by closing air flow. When giga bites, it would take single slice or saw the t-rexes neck and throat with its teeths, causing massive blood loss when arteries are cropped. Possible t-rexes neck muscles are cropped too, and it has no longer power to carry its head.

    • @skezeksskybreaker5425
      @skezeksskybreaker5425 6 років тому +20

I mostly agree with you, but a slice on the T-Rex neck is not a Death sentence depending where it is if it gets to a vital artery then sure. A weaker bite force vs the T-Rexes super muscular neck would not always be a sure win.
Giganotosaurus best strategy for a win is to use it's slight weight advantage and knock the T-Rex over.

It is also faster than tyrannosaurus. And even though tyrannosaurus is bulkier, giganotosaurus is still bulky.

Not enough is known about Giganotosaurus to make a fair comparison because much less skeletons have been discovered compared to around 50 skeletons for Tyrannosaurus so while Tyrannosaurus size estimates are not going to get any larger. Giganotosaurus is much more open to change based on its relative lack of study.

    • @ratsubhan4968
      @ratsubhan4968 6 років тому +8

From the evidence we possess so far, T. rex was slightly shorter in length than Giganotosaurus. The only two specimens we have are MUCPv-Ch1 (holotype) and MUCPv-95 (paratype). It's not really clear how much bigger that paratype specimen individual is, because there isn't perfect linear scaling between it and the holotype specimen (the isolated jaw is proportionately a bit deeper). Scott Hartman's "best fit" indicates an individual about 6.5% longer than the holotype individual. The holotype was 12.4 meters in length, so:
      - 6.5% = 0.065. 0.065 x 12.4 = 0.806.
      - 0.806 + 12.4 = 13.2(06) meters (length of the paratype).
Even if you lower it to the average length, it results as 12.8(03) meters, still longer than T. rex.
FMNH PR 2081 (Sue), the most complete and representative specimen of T. rex, had a length of around 12.3 meters.
Skeletal drawing website by Scott Hartman, comparing the lengths of the two animals: www.skeletaldrawing.com/home/giant-theropods-north-vs-south772013
      Hope this helps.

Personally, I think Tyrannosaurus would win in an outright battle in which they were trying to kill each other... but I think in the end, even if T-rex killed Giganotosaurus, it would likely bleed out from the massive slashing wounds it would almost assuredly take when trying to take out the other behemoth.
In the short term, T-rex, but long term I imagine most encounters would end as mutual kills.

I think with those forward facing eyes of T-Rex and 6 tons of bite force it would most likely end up as a one bite fight in favor of T-Rex. Plus T-Rex's did fight among them self so he would also most likely hold up easy even if Giga got lucky and got a bite or two in. first T rex is bigger on average, 9500kg vs 7800kg. The biggest giga is 9600 kilos and the biggest rex is 11000 kilos.
      T rex advantages:
      Smarter
      Better eyesight
      Better smell
Stronger bite (one shot) 6+ tonnes
      Alot bigger
      Stronger
      Turn quicker (agile)
More battle experience (Trike and Anky and Alamosaurus, giga never fought Argentinasaurus)
Taller at the highest point (neck) and at the standard measurement (hip-3.9 meters for rex vs 3.6 meters for giga.)
      Giga advantages:
      Jaw can close quicker
faster sprint (useless in close combat unless retreating)
      Longer
      Teeth can make rex bleed
Stronger arms but still small and not much strobger anyway
      T rex disadvantages:
      Slower
      Shorter length
Could be blead out but due to it's bulk, it would be hard to get Giga's mouth round
      Smaller arms
      Giga disadvantages:
Cannot process as much complex thought (stupid idiot)
Smaller (eat your greens, oh wait)
      Non-binocular vision (blind lol)
      Less battle experience (wimp)
Weaker bite ( don't skip mouth day)
Worse smell (smell worn out from his stinky ah mum)
      Weaker (weak weakling)
But in all serious T rex is a stronger, smarter, bigger and more evolved animal.
T rex clearly has the advantage. But giga isn't completely outmatched however it could not stand up to Tyrannosaurus.

    This is a 50/50.
It depends on who gets the first bite. Giganotosaurus' teeth are really sharp so when it bites a prey, (or T.Rex in this case) it could cut/punch a hole in the wind pipe to actually suffocate the T.Rex, cut/punch a hole in the artery so there's not bloodflow coming to the brain, or kill T.Rex from blood loss in general. But dont think of it as a 1 sided fight. If T.Rex gets a hold of Giganotosaurus' neck, that's it, ga- game over for the Giga. The T.Rex is gonna crush the spine of the Giga.

The reason being the claws and hand structure of a Spinosaurus. I'm not suggesting it would beat a T rex but those claw strikes would be more problematic but I doubt like Jurassic park they would actually have fought each other. T rex like a Lion and Spino is like a tiger. More often a Lion would win but a tiger can have its day in that fight and be most challenging out of all

    Just throwing it out there.
T-rexes were mostly lone hunters, at most in small packs, and hunted for well armed, powerful prey.
They were extremely overbuilt, had thicker bones and more raw mass than Carcharodontosaurids, who were dedicated sauropod killers, and most likely hunted in packs.
Can you name two really similar predators today that are a good basis for comparison?
    I can.
Lions and tigers. Giganotosaurs were like lions - lightly built pack hunting apex predators that fight for larger prey, and tire it out over time.
Tigers are lone hunters, who take on smaller prey by killing them with their devastating neck bites and tearing them to pieces.
Tigers are vastly more muscular than lions.
Now, I think I don't have to explain how in most cases, tigers would best lions - lions are not lone predators, they are not adapted for that kind of fighting. Tigers are also more adapted at figbting single smaller prey, hence the shorter, inwards curving legs that allow it to hold.onto its prey.
The T-rex is similar to a tiger in many aspect.
My money is on the rex, as awesome as carcharodontosaurids are.

@Chris Scott "But t-was just a slow lumbering beast."
No it really wasn't. It was a relatively slow moving dinosaur, but that came with the size. Generally it moved about as fast as you'd expect a 9 ton predator to move.
"its bite could have been easily avoided"
You know how crocodiles move slowly, and then chomp your hands off? There's literally no correlation between travel speed and the speed at which a predator can apply a deadly bite. Tyrannosaur would have gone extinct the moment it appeared if it was too slow, and its prey would have just walked out from bertween its jaws.
      "Giganotosaurus had superior agility"
Actually, examinations of the foot structure of tyrannosaurid and allosaurid dinosaurs showed that tyrannosaurids were a more derived predator, and had a leg structure more adapted for lateral movement. Agility entails mobility, and allosaurids weren't particularly flexible animals, as opposed to tyrannosaurids.
Just say they ran faster, and you'll be right. Not by a wide margin, though. The speed with which G. is faster than T. is about equivalent to their weight differential. Conservative estimates for the speed of both animal are around 20 mph at most.
      "its teeth were deadlier"
      You sure about that?
Allosaurid teeth were explicitly adapted for slicing. Tyrannosaurus's teeth were unique in its family in that they were incredibly robust, while retaining the ridge along the tooth common to flesh slicing dinos. This means that while not as adept that skinning sauropods alive, T-rex had every bit as deadly bite, with the added ability to literally crush bones - something allosaurids were unable to do, because of their relatively weak mandibular musculature.
      "it had pretty decent eyesight"
Allosaurids literally didn't have proper binocular vision.
You gotta understand, this is not the fanboy talking in me. I looked through tons and tons of various studies examining tyrannosaurus, and from what I have learned, this animal was probably the powerful and dangerous landbased predator to have ever walked the earth. It had smell about as good as modern felines (really really good), incredible eyesight (better than any living predator), and it had a larger brain that most dinosaurs, especially most large theropods.
Before I compared the rex to a tiger, and the giganotosaurus to a lion. That comparison is inapt in my opinion. A better analogy would be a jaguar vs a wolf.
" its build was bulky as well"
Not really. Weight estimates for giganotosaurus put it at 6-7-ish tons at most. Higher estimates have all but been debunked, just as they were for t-rex. That means that rexes on average were around 20-33% heavier. That's a massive difference when it comes to musculature. More importantly, that excess 2 ton bulk for the rex mainly accumulated around the mandibular muscles and the torso - this means that the rex had a much more weight to throw around. Coupled with better lateral motion and stronger feet joints, and a skull specifically adapted for holding onto prey and breaking bones (wide jaws for better leverage) the rex would essentially tackle and grapple a large allosaurid in a 1 on 1 confrontation.
"Giganotosaurus is still far from complete, so I still think it is still most likely possible it could still be bigger than any t-rex."
That's wishful thinking at best, and fanboyism at worst. Ever since giganotosaurus has been discovered there has been a constant and incessant push to overestimate the size and weight of this creature, despite better indications. At this point any sane individual will acknowledge that giganotosaurus, despite lecking in specimens, probably wasn't the 10 ton, 16 meter monsters paleo fanboys would want it to be.

You are WAY WAY WAY off on some aspects of your Tiger/Lion comparison.
Tigers are not vastly more muscular than tigers. It is estimated that muscle makes up 60% of Lions and 60-70% of tigers. I would not call that "Vastly". Also keep in mind Lions have stronger bone density than Tigers and that is part of the reason for less muscle %. The true advantage comes with the fact that tigers usually have a pretty good size advantage on Lions.
"Lions are not lone predators, they are not adapted for that kind of fighting. Tigers are also more adapted at figbting single smaller prey" - Lion's may hunt in pacts, but males can take on large buffalo on their own. The worst part of this comment is the actual role a male Lion plays in a Lion Pride. Are Male Lions responsible for hunting? No, the females do that. What is the Male Lion's role? There role is to protect the pride by fighting off any male challengers. Male Lions literally play fight with each other from childhood to adulthood, they train their whole lives for one on one combat as their sole responsibility will become fighting off challengers if they are to ever have their own pride. The fact Lions have so much fighting experience/training is the only reason why some male lions may actually stand a chance against a tiger who is bigger, stronger, and has a superior built.

    85% to Tyrannosaurus
first T rex is bigger on average, 9500kg vs 7800kg. The biggest giga is 9600 kilos and the biggest rex is 11000 kilos.
    T rex advantages:
    Smarter
    Better eyesight
    Better smell
Stronger bite (one shot) 6+ tonnes
    Alot bigger
    Stronger
    Turn quicker (agile)
More battle experience (Trike and Anky and Alamosaurus, giga never fought Argentinasaurus)
Taller at the highest point (neck) and at the standard measurement (hip-3.9 meters for rex vs 3.6 meters for giga.)
    Giga advantages:
    Jaw can close quicker
faster sprint (useless in close combat unless retreating)
    Longer
    Teeth can make rex bleed
Stronger arms but still small and not much strobger anyway
    T rex disadvantages:
    Slower
    Shorter length
Could be blead out but due to it's bulk, it would be hard to get Giga's mouth round
    Smaller arms
    Giga disadvantages:
Cannot process as much complex thought (stupid idiot)
Smaller (eat your greens, oh wait)
    Non-binocular vision (blind lol)
    Less battle experience (wimp)
Weaker bite ( don't skip mouth day)
Worse smell (smell worn out from his stinky ah mum)
    Weaker (weak weakling)
But in all serious T rex is a stronger, smarter, bigger and more evolved animal.
T rex clearly has the advantage. But giga isn't completely outmatched however it could not stand up to Tyrannosaurus.

Lemme add one more point that's in favour of T-REX.
T-REX apart from being a super predator like the Giganotosaurus & other theropods was also a deadly scavenger. T-REX also used to feed on decayed meat making it possess another weapon in his kitty. And that's a mouthful of savage bacteria. While most theropods are more fond of feeding on fresh kill or fresh meat...T-REX on the other hand was equally fond of feeding on days old meat too.
Which means that if any theropod or sauropod dares to have a fight with T-REX...one single bite mark from the teeth of T-REX could severely infect the enemy making it die due to bacterial infection asap. T-REX is similar to the Komodo Dragons of today.
T-REX could weigh upto 9+ tons.
    (SUE weighs 9.2 tons)
T-REX could easily win the fight with a Giganotosaurus or Carcarodontosaurus. Here in this case...size it not at all a matter of concern as all these 3 giants share almost the same bodily measurements. Giganotosaurus & Carcarodontosaurus was a bit longer than T-REX while T-REX was a bit big in height than Giga & Carcar.
Both Giga & Carcar has the same bite force of around 2 tons while T-REX had a devastatingly massive bite force of 7+ tons. T-REX's teeth where meant to grab the prey by its jaw which means that if Giga's or Carcar's neck is caught by REX...then that's it...end of the story. Both Giganotosaurus & Carcarodontosaurus will die instantly.

T Rex would win. The T Rex weighed more, was more muscular, and had a bite force at least twice that of giganotosaurus. T Rex had large, bone crushing, teeth. If T Rex got a singe bite at the jugular or neck vertebrae it would easily kill the giganotosaurus. T Rex was slower and may or may not have been dumber than giganotosaurus. Giganotosaurus might been faster too, but if it tried to bite T Rex it would not do much damage because giganotosaurus had smaller teeth and, as i previously mentioned, had a much weaker bite. The only way giganotosaurus could do significant damage is if it bit the neck, most notably the jugular.

There's almost no way a Rex would win that.
Giga is bigger, faster, more agile, and has teeth that cut far more easily, meaning more bloodloss and it could actually use it's arms and legs during a fight. Rex only has biteforce over giga, which wouldn't matter since both will equally cut into flesh with no difficulty.

@@andrewdecker616 there's not any realistic way to reason that. Rex just has a higher biteforce, which wouldn't really make any difference in the fight. Whether you get bit by 1200lb of force or 800lb of force, those teeth are going through. What's really going to matter is who gets the first good bite, which due to being faster, more agile, taller, and having bigger/more useful arms the giga will have the advantage there every time.
Honestly people just vote rex because it's the iconic therapod and has a high bite force. Hyenas have one of the highest bite forces today but we all know it ain't messing with a lion.

@@colecampbell1906 let me preface this by saying thank you for the reply and civil conversation. And i am not just saying Rex would win cause its popular, i think the factors that contribute to its win are not only the bite force, but the fact Rex has a larger brain and as mentioned has stereoscopic vision while Giganotosaurus does not and has to keep turning its head back and forth for any good depth perception due to its eyes and their placement. And again i just said that imo i think the Rex would win a majority of the time, which could be as low as 51%.

@@andrewdecker616 oh no problem, no need to get in our feelings over some hypothetical battle among creatures that didn't even exist together lol. To be clear, I didn't mean you specifically, just in general Rex will win on polls simply due to the popularity.
It does indeed have a larger brain, but I just don't see that playing any significant factor in a fight like this. It's mainly for tactics involving hunting, but in an apex battle like this, they're pretty limited on what they can do so the brain power wouldn't factor in much unless they were basically human level intelligence. The vision could play a role, however I personally don't see it being a game changer. Up close with another creature that large, they would most likely be able to see it fine even with the 1 eye on it.
The way I see it going would be something like this: They notice eachother and start advancing, maybe try signs of aggression to scare the other off, when nothing works they come at eachother, Rex lunges in for a bite at the giga's head. Giga pulls back and uses his arms to swipe at the rex and kinda push it's face away, kinda redirecting his energy. Since he's a big boy he can't exactly stop on a dime so he'd go forward a bit in this motion, then giga comes in to bite the back of his neck. He'd probably be able to break free from the giga's grasp, but not before those teeth cut him up pretty bad on his neck. From that point I think the giga just stays away from it and waits for it to bleed out.
I do see scenarios where the giga doesn't successfully dodge and then the Rex gets a good bite right away and it's pretty much game over, but I just see the other scenario like 60-65% likely

Tyrannosaurus is typically around 12 meters and estimated around 7-8 but the largest size we have good evidence for is around 13 meters. There is actually some evidence that Rex could possibly get quite a bit larger than 13 meters based on comparing to other specimens, but since they aren't very complete we do t know if they are actually that big or if they have just larger body parts.
However, not much has ever been found from giga. The Holotype specimen is estimated at 12.5 meters and the largest remains we have are slightly larger so probably around 13 meters. Carcharodontosaurus is also based off basically only a skull but is though to be around 13 meters. Both were likely to be lighter than Rex though because of how muscular it was.
Basically we don't know for sure how big any of these dinosaurs got but from what we know all 3 are basically the same length.

LOL - you mispronounced Giganotosaurus - and it has nothing to do with the accent you have. That aside, it would be impossible for these two theropods - fully mature - to "battle" - they'd give each other a lot of leeway and distance. The cost of injury is too high. As to which animal would "win" - depends on sheer luck of the draw. If a tyrannosaur got a bite in on a vital spot on this allosaurid, it would be lights out for the Giganotosaurus - bones crushed, chunk of flesh pulled out bones and all - incapacitating shock, then death by blood loss, etc. The flesh-shearing teeth of Giganotosaurus could cause terminal injury to the Rex if it got it on the neck somehow - or possibly the backbone. Both animals were huge - G slightly taller/longer, but it weighed a good deal less than T, which was a fairly robust and massive creature. If face biting were to occur - no question - the lighter if longer G skull would have had bones crushed and snapped by T's banana-shaped teeth and much stronger bite force. Tyrannosaurids had - at least the biggest species, anyway - very strong neck muscles - they would have had the edge over any allosaur-type dino in shaking and pulling. Wherever tyrannosaurids were part of the habitat, they dominated. South America and some other isolated spots were spared from the migration/infiltration of these animals, so allosaurids were able to dominate. Both predators were adapted to their prey - sauropods were still around in North America and the Asian areas where the tyrannosaurs roamed, and they made short work of them, but they were not primary prey. Gigonotosaurus and the African Carcharodontosaurus species had teeth that were thinner and more blade-like - suited for stripping flesh off of sauropods.

“Sauropods were still around in North America and Asian areas where tyrannosaurs roamed and they made short work of them”
Lol no most sauropods that large tyrannosaurids lived with were too big to even be threatened as adults the predominant portion of their diet was consisted of hadrosaurs and ceratopsian dinosaurs. By the time members of tyrannosauridae were in NA most giant sauropods had already disappeared the only ones still there were Alamosaurus who had migrated from SA and lived in New Mexico and Texas but didn’t spread to the more northern areas of the continent. Trexes overall range barely overlapped with this animal and even still it would most definitely have to attack immature individuals since adults could grow more than 30 tonnes
It’s a tad strange to assume that facebiting would somehow break a gigas skull when that’s not even what we see in the evidence for intraspecific combat for T.rex that’s just not how biting works, but it more so depends on how they’re gripping each other. Thick neck muscles mean jack squat to an animal who’s teeth are designed to rip off flesh like a butter knife, but as for giganotosaurus specifically it’s a carcharadontosaurid not an allosaurid

Putting almost any therapod against Rexy in a one on one fight just isn't going to go well, because T-Rex was experienced and built in these kinds of encounters. He will always have the stronger bite force, almost always have stockier legs to hold down opponents, and the experience and adaptation for confrontations with other decent sized predators and even more dangerous armored herbivores. It isn't biased to say Rexy would ruin Spino or Giga's day in almost any confrontation, because it's almost certainly true.

The only thing right you said is that damn bite force. All the other Advantages Which you put on Trex side had to be On Giga's side. Giga will easily win, its not even a fight

I'd say Rexy's teeth give it a lethal advantage, Giga's teeth weren't nearly as effective at crushing bone, they were built for deep cuts in order to bleed out massive Titanosaurs. I still think that the kind of prey Rexy fought makes it a much capable opponent in a matchup with a similarly sized predator. Giga does have a size advantage, and arms that aren't useless, but Rexy has the better main weapon here. I will admit that I was probably wrong about Rex having stronger legs.

Giga has bigger and Sharper teeth. Trex, on the other way, has the bite force. Trex DOES NOT Stand too many chances against Triceeatops or Ankylosaurus. Trex's main prey were hardrosaurs. Trex has also a shorter snout. I say Giga would have the better Main Weapon. Even if Claws are usually More Effective than Jaws
