Honestly happy that Peter B lost his aunt may in spider-verse of old age. The most natural thing for her. A chapter closed in his life and another one begun (Mayday)

@@mosshivenetwork117 I think he's referring to Peter B. Parker from the Spider-Verse movies.
However the current *Ultimate Spider-Man (2024)* comic run follows a Peter who's in essentially the same position: New life with MJ and their daughter.

It's because corporate Marvel (comics) refuses to allow Peter to progress anymore. I imagine due to wanting to milk the character forever. Pete starts in Highschool, graduates, goes to College, gets married... then Marvel starts rebooting constantly and nothing matters anymore.
They should have had Pete grow, age, have kids and leave Pete as a Spider Man for a certain era of readers. Pete's daughter (Mayday) or a new protege' (Miles Morales) should have been the new era Spider person for new readers. It would have been satisfying and a great payoff for long time readers and fans.
If Marvel wanted to tell more Peter Parker Spider-Man stories they could do it retroactively ( ala Symbiote Spider-Man series).
It's why manga is killing it vs US comics. Manga has progression: beginning, middle, ending. Stories MATTER.

Honestly, her original death in Spiderman Issue #400 was such an emotionally powerful but simple story about Peter spending time with Aunt May in her final moments and her admitting she knew he was Spiderman and being proud of who he's become and passing away in his arms which was so tragic but felt natural for her character. However, they soon retconned that death, and even after getting shot in Civil War, he still just sacrifices his own happiness and marriage to save Aunt May, even though it goes against Peter's character growth as even though he hates the idea of letting go of Aunt May he would still know that Aunt May would want him to have a happy life and she would gladly give up her own life for him, I mean she literally did that in the Insomniac Spiderman game and that was perhaps one of the most heartbreaking moments in any Spiderman media!?

So many times they could of had a great moment that would of impacted Peter's character just as much as Uncle Ben's death. With her death it could of lead to the next chapter in Peter's life. She can know peace and be with uncle ben KNOWING Peter will be fine, looking after MJ, being married, having a kid! Like she would of wanted Peter to BE HAPPY, even if she was gone.
But do they do that? Nope. They refuse to let Peter and in turn Spider-man grow up. This is like the one super hero the fans want to see take that next step in life. Have the problems of being married and having a kid. Hell, with all the different spider folk that are now out there, they could of uplifted some of those responsibilities. Or better yet, and because people are obsessed with the character, give him Miles as the sidekick to watch over. Be a teacher to the next generation. And let him do that for the next 20 years in comics.
It's the biggest fumble in comics. Peter should not only be married right now, but have children, three of them at that. And why people loved the new Ultimate comics because Peter started being spider-man when he was already married and had kids. People want this and Marvel editors just don't want to do it.

I feel like Aunt May would've been better off dying in the Civil War era. It would've been a great representation of the whole 'with great power there must also come great responsibility' thing with Peter having to deal with May's death as the consequence of revealing his identity. Also would've allowed his progression with MJ and them being married to stay instead of getting rid of it and bringing in...he who shall not be named.

A storyline they should explore is exactly what you commented… Spider-Man has always been “I gotta hide my identity to protect the ones I love” yet every single one of his main villains already knows who he is and most of the time his family and friends are in danger because they didn’t know he was Spider-Man. So really they need to make a story that shows how important that secret is besides a couple of words of harassment.

I think that's why I like how in Ultimate Spider-Man 2024 and even in Insomniac Spider-Man universe Aunt May was killed off so seeing a Peter who's fully grown and/or has a family of his own to make up for the one he lost just feels right. It allows Peter to actually grow more as a character

I loved Peter Parker as a school teacher. I thought it was a great evolution of his character that kept him in high school like the current editors want, but still have him as an adult. I can also see Peter doing well in a mentor roll like that.
Also, here's yet another reason to hate OMD....
It's pretty much a ripoff of a single issue Flash story.
Neron (DC's version of The Devil) released some henchmen (The Rogues, whose souls he then owned) to cause some major destruction.
The Flash (Wally West) and his wife (Linda Park West) confront him about it. He basically tells them, "Your love shines like a beacon... Stop it... IT ANNOYS ME!!!"
They then make a deal to sell their love for each other to end the devastation. However, Neron finds that it's too much and corrupts him, making him care about the souls in hell he torments. He then begs them to take it back.

9:53 - For me personally it's a toss up. I want the deal addressed at some point, as I've harped about for the past few months since reading Zeb Wells Spider-Man run is that when they eventually want Peter and MJ to get back together they should have it that the MJ that's with Paul is a clone or alternate universe variant of some sort as the way they have MJ set up now just doesn't make sense for her to go back to Peter for the umteenth time. Have it be where in that weird dimension MJ learned about the deal with Mephisto and they find some way to undo it or at least learn that it happened.

  • @travisherndon94
    @travisherndon94 2 місяці тому +11

Honestly they should have killed her off during "One more day" after that sniper shot cause in my opinion if May knew what was going on with Peter and Mj about this deal she would have told them to stop don't take it and accept my passing. Hell, rewrite the story and have Peter's subconscious be in sort of an in-between life and death where he meets May's soul and explains the deal from Mephisto to her. Where she then slaps him and finally sits Peter down and tell him she wants him to live a good life with the woman he loves and start a family and that her time is over and give one final goodbye to Peter, he declines the deal learn to accept his aunt's death and his consequences he made during "civil war" with the love and support of MJ. Then you could have a beautiful moment with May reuniting with Ben in the afterlife to end the story off.

Aunt May is a frustrating character. I personally like a few story elements of One More Day. I respect everyone who doesn't like the book, but I think certain story elements were handled well; my main issue with Aunt May is her character in the later storylines. Again, she could easily be an interesting character, but it feels like they aren't using her right. I kinda miss when she did know Spider-Man’s secret because they had such a good connection at that point, but I also like a ton of stuff from Brand New Day. My personal wish would be to see more of Peter and Aunt May understanding and respecting each other and her being in on the superhero secret while still exploring more of Peter’s bachelor life. I understand why people have an attachment to the marriage concept though. As someone who has poked around at getting into superhero comics, I think one of the most off-putting part of the genre to me is the reticence to allow characters to go away and stay gone. Do we really need to write monthly stories for like 50-80 years about the same character? End a gd story. Let a character die or retire or whatever and have someone else take over. Batman's been around since the 40's, Dick Grayson should have died or retired as Batman by now and let someone else take on the mantle. It's ok for things to change I don't know why comics need things to practically stay in stasis. It's legitimately insane.

So, yeah. I love Aunt May, but I think most of us can agree that she has to go (that feels really bad to type, but I couldn’t think of any other way to say it).

I do feel that if you get Batman old enough, you need to. Especially if the end of his career will be sad like dkr and Beyond. However, that symbolizes Batman’s last link to humanity is gone and editorial isn’t smart enough to put that together.

I believe it may have something to do with the corporate mandate that stops Peter and mj from ever marring permanently in the main line comics,it became more talked about due to the popularity of the new ultimate universe Spider-Man is a made man because he is married to mj and has two kids, uncle Ben is a live but may isn’t with the Parker’s, but he isn’t Spider-Man on that universe and because the spider-bite never happened he was not connected to the web of life an all the suffering it brings to the individual!
*So yea every time you think about Peter and mj getting together in the main line comics*

Finally, someone shares my opinion! I've felt this way for a while myself, Aunt May just needs to die. She should've been dead the second Peter became an adult because at that point. he doesn't live with her anymore, so the main purpose of her character has been fulfilled. Stan Lee once said that May has a weak heart and that's why she's constantly ill, but at this point she just needs to go. If May died in the Civil War-Back In Black-One More Day era, that would've been the best option for Peter. And it feels really annoying to the fans because it just implies that Peter can't handle loss even though he's been losing people since his first issue.

tbf mephisto isn't the real devil he models himself like him but he's not, also peter states in one more day that he would let her go but because he's the soul reason she's dying he cant let that happen, he cant have an other uncle ben moment... people don't seem to understand that, its not character assassination or the worst spiderman comic EVER made or anything there's real motives of why he does it and it makes sense, but in reality i would say its about time to put an end to aunt may, peters old enough in the comics also insomniac did it great, and the other times they killed her off in the comics were good, she doesn't need to be there anymore just do it right and it would be a great send off and character progression for peter.

Im convinced Aunt may dying will set Peter and the writers free. Aunt May hasnt been significant in Peters story for a long time in recent memory. She hasnt been thr Alfred to Peters Batman. The Jon and Martha Kent to his Superman.
Jameson has been more significant for gods sake for Peter. You could write a story where Mephistos spell is tied to Peters Aunts life and a conflict happens and Mephisto has to save Aunt May to protect his spell/gripe on Peters marriage, Aunt may catches wind and encourages Peter to let her go!!! Something! Anything!!!!

Marvel retconning Aunt May's death way back when it honestly such a bad decision that doesn't often get spoken about in comparison to the really big ones when it comes to Spider-Man, we all know what they are. But that decision is just another rung on the ladder of Marvel derailing any character development/ character growth for Peter. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Peter giving up his whole life essentially because Aunt May got shot and was going to die will never make any sense. At least if they had MJ be the one that gets shot and is in critical condition, then the whole story would make a hell of a lot more sense as to why he acts so out of character to the point where he would make a literal deal with the devil.

Maybe Mainline Aunt May if she still live! I don’t know, I don’t read these comics at moment. I can see others movies taking No Way Home idea and do unqire twist about Aunt May dying in beginning story instead of Unlce Ben could be interesting!!

And man's STILL WENT TO THE DEVIL......AND SHES CATHOLIC!!!
Oh also imagine someone heard the intro where they say "Spider-Man was in Civil War" but didn't know about the Marvel Arc so then started thinking that Spider-Man was making moves during the actual American Civil War circa. 1861-1865?? LMAO THAT'D BE HILARIOUS!!!!

Yes. Kill Aunt May. Kill Paul. Kill Norman & Harry.. Kill Octavius. In fact, have a story that just reverts everything back to the pre-OMD status quo. Make Peter an eternal fugitive. Have Miles have to take over the Friendly Neighborhood with Ben Riley being his Proto Man. Move Peter onto bigger, more world/universe-scale adventures while Miles and Ben do the old-school thing.

To be fair Alfred is decently old.
The man served in WW2 and he gets to bang the Queen in her prime for saving her life and hundreds of people at some charity event .
This is before Alfred retires to serve the Wayne family , He got sick of dealing with the army and wars .
Yeah aunt may is older in most timelines since Alfred age can change depending on the writer, Most times the butler is around 50 years old slightly younger sometimes since he does takes care of Bruce for 18 years by himself .

She shouldn't be. People like to say she should have died after she got shot during the events of Civil War, but the truth is she shoulydve died long ago. The 90's would have been probably best. I don't think that she has added anything terribly important in Spider-Man lore for decades. And if I'm being honest, she was honestly a pretty annoying and terrible character before J. Michael Straczynski started writing her.

Nah, but it wouldn't bug me so much if she actually did something. Like in Spiderverse. She's not Alfred. So I always ask myself why are you even here? So Peter can live in your house to show that he's hit rock bottom again?
