EDELRID Knowledge Base - Rope Kink Test

The condition and durability of a mountain rope are highly dependent on the wide range of external influences. Frequent falls, dust as well as mechanical abrasion can damage the rope sheath.
The kink test provides an initial aid in assessing the condition of the rope. For this purpose, the area of the rope to be evaluated is struck out and the rope is then bent through 180°. The condition of the rope sheath can then be assessed with the thumb and index finger.
