Denny and Derek...no better combo of guitar players in the planet. Lou Ann is great. She has done it her way. Used to see her a at Antones on The Drag mid 1980s. I was very lucky to have seen a lot a great artists
Yup, Denny, Jimmie and Clifford got me hip to Derek. Very underrated player, and a great guy as well. Austin blues scene was an embarrassment of riches...until we started losing them. They live on in our memories ( and on UA-cam)!
This right is why I love Austin's blues players so much. Been lucky enough to visit there twice so far. No other blues sounds as good as Texas blues in my humble opinion.
OH yes. Always at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. The venue was cooked up in 1976 as a way to have gigs for the musicians around Christmas and as a way for the artisan street vendors to get out of the chancy weather. This year - 2022- was the greatest ever--except dang! What a performance from Lou Ann and the band.
Yep that's what I'm talking about! The original Double Trouble, Derek and Denny. Either one is amazing in his own right, but together.....fireworks! Lucky enough to have seen them ,together and separate, several times. Everyone is dressed up since it's a Christmas party ( especially Denny, the sharp dressed man that he was!). Rest in peace my friend! Thanks for recording and sharing this, was really happy to enjoy this tonight.
...after intro 11:45 I melted into a familiar ballad, Lou Ann is so cute counting off the beat. Thanks for posting this. A Christmas Bazaar, Derek O'Brien, huh, and I can almost smell the Festive BBQ.
That instrumental is called "Soul Street ", one of Denny's tunes. He often would stretch out on it, and Derek played second guitar on the recorded version. It's on Denny's second album, Out of the Blue.
It's a tricky venue. Its an indoors craft fair where the sound has to be managed so that conversations can be had in the 100 or so booths. Its been going on since 1976, a real Austin tradition.

This was the reason I came to the Armadillo X-mas Bazaar! What a performance they all gave us that Saturday! R.I.P. Denny

another reason why Denny Freeman will be missed..... Perfect leads
Like so many live shows the lead vocalist cannot be heard over the instruments:(
Wow, are these guys like living legends or something along those lines? I'm very curious to know more about them.
Can't see, but is the other guitar player the late great Denny Freeman?
@GaryVeylupek Yes it is.
Terrible sound mix! Lou Ann's vocals disappear. Phooey. No camera movement either.

"You had to be there" -- that's all......
Drummer needs a ride cymbal.
