To be fair to Ghosts, it was meant to be a piano/voice ballad specifically. There isn't meant to be additional instrumentation, like Ruled By Secrecy having heavy drums. And Screenager still uses a multitude of instruments/sounds. Muse wanted to do something really acoustic in a sense with Ghosts, since it was Matt's personal song during COVID. If Dom and Chris encouraged him to add it like that, I'm happy!

This feels like an album that tried to please everyone - the metal Muse lovers, the symphonic Muse lovers and the poppy Muse lovers. I really enjoy the first two categories but not the poppy stuff, but I gotta say, the Halloween song is great and fun if you don't take it as a serious song.

Well I’m a Muse fan who likes all of what they put out. That’s what makes Muse, Muse. Sure people have genres they stick too but I think you miss the point of the whole band mostly if you just go with certain styles and genres and not really vibe with their whole output.
I really enjoyed this album. Not a single song I flat out disliked, which is a step up from simulation theory. Still not super remarkable as compared to their 2000s albums but it's a step in the right direction.
It’s a solid album. Not a single bad song. This is the first time I can say that about a Muse album since BHAR. The weakest link IMO is Ghosts, but even that song is pretty good for what it is. I like it. I’ll need some more time with it to fully critique it, but I think this is their best album post-BHAR.

Dom specifically had reservations about it at first but eventually came to like it and agreed to put it on the Album. Chris was for it I think from the beginning but Dom held out
The reasons I will always watch your Muse reactions first, before anyone else are the following: you know Muse like the back of your hand, you make me see the technicalities of all the instruments, you notice things I wouldn't because of this, you are not here to find faults because you're a real Muse fan. Ghosts and Verona are simply beautiful and for me the biggest surprises on the album. WAFF and Halloween are both brilliant too. Probably my favourites along witk KoBK. Still not keen on Liberation and Euphoria. Solid 8/10 album, Matt's voice as brilliant as ever!
Honestly I wish Liberation was just a little longer. It needed a bit more room to breath, but I loved every song on the album. Halloween's probably at the bottom for me cuz of the melody of the chorus is a bit boring, but i love the instrumentals Edit: Just listened to Halloween again and its not at the bottom anymore. the funk is just too good
I'd love to hear you come back and discuss the album lyrically at some point. I think this is Matt's finest lyrical work since BHAR (maybe even Absolution). The early single releases are decent lyrically (not amazing), but Ghosts is heart-wrenching, Halloween is an extremely clever play on domestic violence resembling a horror film, Verona's double metaphor between Romeo and Juliet (and how he incorporates the themes) and the coronavirus is unique and creative, etc. This is a REALLY great album lyrically.
TOTALLY agree on You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween. Love every second of it, absolutely what I wanna hear from Muse. Favorite song on the album for me! And being sequenced back to back with Kill or Be Killed is a fantastic one-two punch

Sorry if I can't be objective (cause I'm such a messy fangirl for Muse XD) but I really love the album. Some funny tracks like Euphoria, Will of the people and Compliance... Some really touchy like Ghosts and Verona that made me cry a lot. Liberation ok I know everyone compare it to Queen's songs but I can't help but feel this is Muse, the Muse I love. Then we have tracks life WSD and KoBK total 🔥 Man idk I'm just to happy for the new album, new music, new tour (even if I not going to a Muse concert 💔)... I mean, I'm just overwhelmed and happy to live in the same time than Muse. But Kudos to you
Halloween is definitely one of my favourite songs in this album it’s SO good 💃🏻💃🏻 can’t choose between WSD KOB and Halloween, Euphoria and WAFF, then from the slow songs (Verona and Ghosts) I think I like Verona way more, Ghosts is kind of simple but Verona almost made me cry :’) WOTP and Compliance are really not that bad lol they make me want to dance 💃🏻💃🏻 and then Liberation 🥶 i don’t know i’m still warming up to it :’) overall i think the album is pretty good! Well, what a fun album. It’s meandering-like but also short and compact at the same time. Lots of quick, zany bangers with Queenish vibes and…punk rock? But also some nice spacy ballads. I can see people feeling meh towards this. But like most other of their albums, the more I listen, the more I like.
It’s a greatest hits album of new songs. So there will be meandering involved in the best way. I don’t see how people will be meh against this. I’ve seen nothing but praise from everyone so far minus one disgruntled outlet. It being compact and more digestible I think is a pro that has helped it and the many different genres that harken back to their earlier catalogue is what people like too. There’s some pop punk you could say on it but not straight punk rock at all. Everything makes it a solid album that should appeal to the most casual Muse listener in one way or another

Right now the songs I like the less would be Ghost and Verona (not bad songs but I wish they would introduce more things inside). "We are fucking fucked" is really a highlight, with "You make me feel like it's Halloween". Then Liberation for it's queen and resistance like sound and Euphoria (which reminds me of Blockades and Get Up and Fight).

I listened to the leak if this album and after hearing it about 15ish times now, holy shit its good. Its better than bhar and resistance imo. My opinions on mise can be wacky but man this album i had strong first impressions and they just grew. Ghists amd verona at first were the weakest for me. But something about matts voice, there is so much emotion in those tracks. There is seriously not a single bad track here imo. Wotp as a song many dont like (i love it) but i think even if people call it an ehh song it works perfectly as an opener. It really sets the mood for the album, the celebratory mood. We arent revolting or getting up and fighting, we are celebrating. Weve won, until the end when we realize we are fucking fucked. This album is the will of the people. Even if u have high first impressions i reccomend many relistens as it just grows and grows in quality. Nice video excited for pt 2
I struggle between calling "United States of Eurasia" or "Liberation" the queenest Muse-song. I guess they both are, in their own field, as Queen was also pretty versatile :)

As a Muse connoisseur much like yourself I’d say, I found the album to be pretty fantastic to say the least. Honestly I wish it had one or two more tracks on it to make the album longer than what it was but the more compact length makes it more digestible in general with audiences. Where do I rank it with their other works? It’s honestly right up their with Absolution, BHaR, and The Resistance in my favorite list. Of course I like their first two albums too but this album fits more along the lines of the works I mentioned from them. 8.5/10
So Aleks von Korff (who helped produce WOTP) talked a bit about the lyrical content of Halloween on his latest Instagram post. They were inspired by the increase in domestic violence as a result of the lockdowns. Since classic horror movies like The Shining and Misery both reference domestic abuse they went with a Halloween theme and then leaned further into it instrumentally. So while the song feels quite upbeat, the lyrics are actually super dark. Top tier Muse song.
I feel that this album has a little bit of every album. Every generation of muse. Liberation bring more resistance. Won’t stand down being of their earlier days. Verona being absolution. It all coming to be a “this is all muse, and everything it can be”
As a Muse fan since Showbiz,I think there's enough there to be happy with. KOBK and WSD the clear favourites. WOTP is a simple catchy riff,but will be great live to get the crowd warmed up. Compliance sounds better live as I think Matt adds abit more guitar especially in the Chorus. Liberation is heavy Queenesque,but has enough goin for it. For me Ghosts is a stand out too. It's just great to hear Matt clearly with his amazing piano skills. Maybe more harmonies towards the end?? Halloween is a cheesy Addams Family Daft Punk Bonanza 🤣
I have some theory regarding this album. I heard it for the first time yesterday, listening to it I was kinda liking it, kinda not… You know, it sounds like Muse essence, everything I love about them put together in one ‘place’ (one album). But, on the other hand - those songs, each is different, I couldn’t find any common factor, linkage, story to them. It’s just like Matt said in one of interviews I believe - that the album contains ‘best of’ Muse work, best pop song, best metal song etc. And here I am listening to it for the second time today and it hit me - this album IS actually ‘will of the people’: people wanted more Absolution, BHaR -> they got it. People wanted heavy riffs -> they got it. People wanted Origin of Symmetry -> they got it. For those who fancy more pop-ish style -> they got it also. Muse gave people what they were willing to be given. Little something for everybody. Don’t we like the album now? Yes, we do. So what if ‘Will of the people’ is about Muse creating what we wanted, pleasing us with giving us control on what the album outcome is? Taking this thought further, lyrics of the title song kind of tell that. We -> people, make the revolution, need a transformation (of their music, make it to our expectations). The lyrics are actually bitter-sweet, as ‘ We'll build you right up and we'll tear you down’ and ‘We'll throw the baby out with the bathwater’). Pairing it with the graphic depiction of ‘Fallen Muse’ on the album cover… Well, a theory that makes sense to me. If Muse is pranking us, it’s done in so subtle and intelligent way that we wouldn’t even tell.
I think its their best album since the resistance, KOBK and WSD are both bangers, Ghost is hauntingly beautiful, Verona feels like what ST should have been, WAFF is a great closer, overall the album didnt disappoint, happy muser here
Enjoyed both videos. Thank You. Concur with your take on everything except Ghosts, which for me is an amazing track that I'd put above Euphoria. I can understand why you'd rate it there as (I assume) you're still young so likely don't have the life experience to appreciate the song. It's possible but unlikely you've experienced the state that Matt is referring to on this track, which is stuck in the grieving process after a deep loss. She left after 20 years of marriage by surprise? Lost the love of your life in a car accident? Had someone truly touch your soul, that helped raise you from a low point to the heights of joy in life but now you don't even talk? The stripped down nature of the song is all about the emotion in the vocal delivery. In your part 2 you mention the song 'doesn't go anywhere', which is part of the harsh reality of being stuck and unable to move on. Perhaps it just wasn't relatable to you... yet. When it is relatable that song will hit you like a ton of bricks.
Ghosts is obviously a pallet cleanser for the live shows. This is going to be played in the middle of the crowd, lights down, spotlight on Matt on his own on a piano. Then runs back to main stage before something heavy

Generally agree with the sentiment. Ghosts is very stripped back but you really have to take in the lyrics to that one to appreciate it. I think lyrically the album is one of their better recent efforts. From what I’ve read Ghosts is about losing people in the pandemic and Halloween is about domestic abuse in the context of lockdown. We’ll get the music video for Halloween in a few hours and the snippets make it look like a lot of fun. Love your reaction videos! 😃

Ghosts took a few listens to grow on me. It was meant to be on Cryosleep, it's just that Dom and Chris liked it so much they wanted it for Muse.

I'm hoping that sitting between 'won't stand down' and 'You make me feel like its Halloween' - it'll feel like a calm respite between those two when I listen to the album as a whole.

I listened to the leak if this album and after hearing it about 15ish times now, holy shit its good. Its better than bhar and resistance imo. My opinions on mise can be wacky but man this album i had strong first impressions and they just grew. Ghists amd verona at first were the weakest for me. But something about matts voice, there is so much emotion in those tracks. There is seriously not a single bad track here imo. Wotp as a song many dont like (i love it) but i think even if people call it an ehh song it works perfectly as an opener. It really sets the mood for the album, the celebratory mood. We arent revolting or getting up and fighting, we are celebrating. Weve won, until the end when we realize we are fucking fucked. This album is the will of the people. Even if u have high first impressions i reccomend many relistens as it just grows and grows in quality. Nice video excited for pt 2

Ghosts is about those people who lost their significant other to COVID, while Halloween is about domestic violence during the pandemic/lockdowns.
As a Muse connoisseur much like yourself I’d say, I found the album to be pretty fantastic to say the least. Honestly I wish it had one or two more tracks on it to make the album longer than what it was but the more compact length makes it more digestible in general with audiences. Where do I rank it with their other works? It’s honestly right up their with Absolution, BHaR, and The Resistance in my favorite list. Of course I like their first two albums too but this album fits more along the lines of the works I mentioned from them. 8.5/10

So Aleks von Korff (who helped produce WOTP) talked a bit about the lyrical content of Halloween on his latest Instagram post. They were inspired by the increase in domestic violence as a result of the lockdowns. Since classic horror movies like The Shining and Misery both reference domestic abuse they went with a Halloween theme and then leaned further into it instrumentally. So while the song feels quite upbeat, the lyrics are actually super dark. Top tier Muse song.

I feel that this album has a little bit of every album. Every generation of muse. Liberation bring more resistance. Won’t stand down being of their earlier days. Verona being absolution. It all coming to be a “this is all muse, and everything it can be”

As a Muse fan since Showbiz,I think there's enough there to be happy with. KOBK and WSD the clear favourites. WOTP is a simple catchy riff,but will be great live to get the crowd warmed up. Compliance sounds better live as I think Matt adds abit more guitar especially in the Chorus. Liberation is heavy Queenesque,but has enough goin for it. For me Ghosts is a stand out too. It's just great to hear Matt clearly with his amazing piano skills. Maybe more harmonies towards the end?? Halloween is a cheesy Addams Family Daft Punk Bonanza 🤣

I have some theory regarding this album. I heard it for the first time yesterday, listening to it I was kinda liking it, kinda not… You know, it sounds like Muse essence, everything I love about them put together in one ‘place’ (one album). But, on the other hand - those songs, each is different, I couldn’t find any common factor, linkage, story to them. It’s just like Matt said in one of interviews I believe - that the album contains ‘best of’ Muse work, best pop song, best metal song etc.
And here I am listening to it for the second time today and it hit me - this album IS actually ‘will of the people’: people wanted more Absolution, BHaR -> they got it. People wanted heavy riffs -> they got it. People wanted Origin of Symmetry -> they got it. For those who fancy more pop-ish style -> they got it also. Muse gave people what they were willing to be given. Little something for everybody. Don’t we like the album now? Yes, we do. So what if ‘Will of the people’ is about Muse creating what we wanted, pleasing us with giving us control on what the album outcome is?
Taking this thought further, lyrics of the title song kind of tell that. We -> people, make the revolution, need a transformation (of their music, make it to our expectations). The lyrics are actually bitter-sweet, as ‘ We'll build you right up and we'll tear you down’ and ‘We'll throw the baby out with the bathwater’). Pairing it with the graphic depiction of ‘Fallen Muse’ on the album cover… Well, a theory that makes sense to me. If Muse is pranking us, it’s done in so subtle and intelligent way that we wouldn’t even tell.
Come on guys, this album is awesome.

I think its their best album since the resistance, KOBK and WSD are both bangers, Ghost is hauntingly beautiful, Verona feels like what ST should have been, WAFF is a great closer, overall the album didnt disappoint, happy muser here

I really love Liberation (the piano is wonderful)......it somehow reminds me of United States of Eurasia, which is also one of my fav songs.
Enjoyed both videos. Thank You. Concur with your take on everything except Ghosts, which for me is an amazing track that I'd put above Euphoria. I can understand why you'd rate it there as (I assume) you're still young so likely don't have the life experience to appreciate the song. It's possible but unlikely you've experienced the state that Matt is referring to on this track, which is stuck in the grieving process after a deep loss. She left after 20 years of marriage by surprise? Lost the love of your life in a car accident? Had someone truly touch your soul, that helped raise you from a low point to the heights of joy in life but now you don't even talk? The stripped down nature of the song is all about the emotion in the vocal delivery. In your part 2 you mention the song 'doesn't go anywhere', which is part of the harsh reality of being stuck and unable to move on. Perhaps it just wasn't relatable to you... yet. When it is relatable that song will hit you like a ton of bricks.

Ghosts is obviously a pallet cleanser for the live shows. This is going to be played in the middle of the crowd, lights down, spotlight on Matt on his own on a piano. Then runs back to main stage before something heavy

02:39 describe us all I enjoyed the album I am not the biggest fan of will of the people or euphoria but is fun ( a bit short) experimental album and they show how talented they are, I would like more of the Chris Power to be honest ( that bass line is the resaon i like compliance) .
I like the singles except WOTP ( and that song has a fun energy), and the album is emotional and fun. But wish a new theme I give it a 8.5/10

Generally agree with the sentiment. Ghosts is very stripped back but you really have to take in the lyrics to that one to appreciate it. I think lyrically the album is one of their better recent efforts. From what I’ve read Ghosts is about losing people in the pandemic and Halloween is about domestic abuse in the context of lockdown. We’ll get the music video for Halloween in a few hours and the snippets make it look like a lot of fun. Love your reaction videos! 😃

I didn't like Ghosts on the first run through. No bass, drums or guitar! A pure solo project from Matt. But then I listened to it again with the lyrics and I love it now. It hits me in the feels every time.
