Makem a bottom frame that only holds the piezo disc at two points across from each other. Make a top frame that attaches to the piezo disc 90 degrees to the bottom frame. Glue a nickel on top of this top frame. Most of the time this piezo disc should be mounted in the center of the "bass" section of the soundboard. You may not even want a pre-amp since there will be such a strong signal.

I submerge mine in glue from a hot glue gun. It gets rid of the scratchy sound.
