Hi, It may work better with a light coating of grease on the parts touching the key and casting - When it is wedged in tight a lot of the force would be used up in friction - the reason I say that is it is a lot easier to remove a ball joint with a wedge type remover if the remover has grease on the tapered part where it meets the joint and you don’t do as much damage to the surfaces.
