⚡Eye Health Question of the Day: Did this content sway you more in favor or LASIK or did it push you away from LASIK?
Hello. Great video. Very informative. I'm on quetiapine and it can effect eyesight. Also venlafaxine which can cause some blurryness. I'm wondering if I would be a good candidate for lasik? Or any other procedure like PRK. My diopter is -8.50.
I'm going to talk with my opthalmologist about if i qualify!
I feel like an implantable contact lens would be safer because if anything ever goes wrong, doctors can remove the lens. Unlike LASIK which is a permanent modification to the eye
What’s your opinion on icl vs lasik? I saw a doctor for lasik she made it seem I was going to have 20/20 for a while. My prescription is -10 -9. She said I was a candidate for lasik because my cornea was thick. I have dry eyes because of I am on the computer. Would icl be better?
Luckily I'm not in the market for major eye work YET but your well-rounded discussion on the topic most definitely reassures me that it's a great way to go should I need it in the future. I just want YOU doing the procedure!!
Had this procedure done 11 years ago and went from prescription -5.50 to 20/20 vision and its still remained.
That's awesome! I hear a lot of great success stories like that.
charlieflyte how are your dry eyes
Cody Harmon it eventually settled. Took about 4 years though. They gave me numerous eye drops, gels and tear duct plugs.
Cody Harmon i have had my surgery over 4 years and my eyes were never dry
Wow Cody you were lucky. I've had a few family members and friends that have had it done and about half of them have suffered from dry eyes. Even though I suffered, it's been the best decision I've made. I have no regrets. Even now I can't believe I can see everything without glasses. Best feeling. Have a nice a day. Millie, UK 🙂
Wishing you the best with your channel. I had my eyes lasered in 2007 and have worn glasses again since 2017. Everything you said makes sense, I am glad I was not disappointed about glasses and contacts again. It was good to watch this
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear things are going well for you.
Interestingly you’re an eye doctor and you have the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen.
😎

Doctor can you help us?
hes an opthometrist with doctors of philosophy if im not mistaken...an eye doctor is an ophthalmologist, which is an eye specialist.
👍
What a lovely and INFORMATIVE overview!
I'm a 59-year-old man in good physical condition with no known diseases that might interfere with Lasik surgery.
Until I underwent Lasik surgery, I had a rather strong prescription (OD: +4.0, OE: +5.0 with a mild astigmatism in OE (-0.75CYL, 90°AXIS) and needed an additional 2.5 for each eye for reading. (I wore rather thick (and expensive) progressive lenses.)
I underwent a blade-less Lasik surgery three weeks ago. Everything went swimmingly during the procedure and I've had two post-op consults where the OD (clinician - not the surgeon) said everything is healing normally.
Still... three weeks post-op, I'm seeing beautifully up close, but I'm quite blurry with any thing more than 5-8 feet away. There's haloing and haziness at night as well.
I'm using my artificial tears (mild-moderate) every couple hours during the day and use the artificial tears (moderate-severe) at bedtime and if I wake up in the night. In the mornings I wake up with my eyes quite dry. The artificial tears DO make things momentarily clearer, but they go back to blurriness a minute or two after application.
I'm very happy with my result so far - as I couldn't see much of anything clearly before Lasik. Yet, as my prescription was rather strong, is this distance bluriness a normal part of the healing process and is it just going to take time to get to the point where my acuity improves.
The OD said my distance vision WILL improve (the good news), but that with improvement in the distance, my close up vision would decrease a bit (the sad news). But it was explained to me that even with Lasik I would probably still need reading glasses for the small stuff.
Does everything sound about right on track?
Again... thanks for your insight.
Omgosh, I just had the surgery 7 days ago and I am experiencing the exact same thing you just described. I'm so scared because the doctor didn't tell me this before surgery so I've been freaking out. Could you please tell me how it turned out? I'm hoping it was good!! And if it was, how long did it take?
@@lisacadorette7992 It's been roughly 3-4 years since the surgery and I LOVE the results. I don't need reading glasses and can see pretty clearly up to 15 yards away. It's not as clear as daytime, but I can even drive at night without much blurriness.
Of course, it's not like naturally great vision, but it's damn close.
Stay calm. Give the healing process six months or so. You'll be happy with your results, too.
I was 4 years old when I started wearing glasses. I am -7.5 in my right eye and -7.0 in my left eye, plus an astigmatism. I started wearing contacts in the 7th grade. I am now 40 years old and seriously considering this surgery. Thank you for this and all of your videos!
How much of an astigmatism do you have? Have seen lots of success stories with prescriptions in your range of spherical correction. When the astigmatism gets higher, have seen that reduces likelihood of 20/20 success
I believe that it was the FDA warning I read, which stated that Lasik surgery is not good for people 40 years old and old.
Sadly, no 2 people have the same outcome with lasik. My 93 year old mother, who was lied to that lasik alone, can save her eyes, now Hallucinates. Another female I know has to wear shades all day long, even in her home. She can no longer drive, and it has interfered with mental health also.
I also see many people who wear shades even at night because lasik has caused their eyes to hate from all light.
What's about the people it caused to hallucinate, and as a result, they committed suicide.
We must always research everything, including medications, before using them, since most people die from medication poisoning and not the illness itself.
FYI: After researching a relatives medication, I found out that no 2 of them should be taken together. Plus, there are many adverse side effects.

Thank you for a very clear and informative video. You did an excellent job! I was already not considering lasik surgery for a cataract because of things I had already researched. This video made me feel even more convinced that lasik or laser is not something I would ever want to do. Again thank you!
This is the first hour long video that I watched on UA-cam that is not a movie or some other entertainment video. Someone close to me underwent a femtosecond lasik procedure where she had a lens implanted into her eye yesterday. I landed here because I always thought that lasik as a procedure that corrects the natural vision and doesn’t require an implant. The depth of information you covered in this video is something what the world needs. After that I binge watched many of your videos. I feel like I am already an ophthalmologist now lol! To answer your question, I feel pretty confident about getting this kind of surgery after watching your videos, but… only with a doctor such as you. Thanks and keep up the good work doctor.
Love your videos, bud. Your passion for the profession is obvious and I find your open, friendly delivery and knowledge endlessly entertaining. Best of luck with all your endeavors! The dark and dangerous universe of the internet is just a bit brighter and welcoming with you in it. Thank you and keep up the good work!
It’s not bud. It’s Dr. give him the respect!
I am 62 and had LASIK performed in1999. Had worn glasses and contacts since age 9. Could "see" immediately after; absolutely stunned. Vision in both eyes 20/16. It has lasted all these years. Did not need "readers" until age 55. Very fortunate. Recommended procedure to a friend and she did not have such positive results. Just discovered your channel!
How did it go for your friend?
Glad it went well for you :)
I am 63 and had Monovision LASIK done in my right eye in April 2006 (15 yrs). Wore glasses from 2nd grade, hard contacts in 10th grade, and soft contacts after that, then progressing to monovision lenses until I had LASIK. BEST DECISION EVER, I think I paid $700.for the 1 eye, with a 1 year warranty. Never had any issues, until now. Started having floaters about 4 months ago (only in the eye with LASIK, so I'm wondering if there is any coincidence?) and having slight blurring from what it has been. Only wear readers for up-close sewing at times. I'm interested in any input from others?
@@joannemcdevitt6654 Hmm since you have 1y warranty it's prob worth atleast consulting with your doctor.(dont take what i say too srsly i'm 20 and just potentially interested in lasik)
I can't say whether eye floaters can be related or not, I've had alot of them since teenage years soo ig I'm used to them. Still annoying at times tho.
What's more annoying is the astigmatism I have however, eventho it's not _very_ bad yet but certainly got worse rather then better with time
Hey, did you get cataract yet?
@@richasharma9489 Not so far!
I love when doctors are so enthusiastic about their practice. ❤️
Me too!! 👍
I have bad astigmatism, but I'm considering having the LAL procedure thebut the surgeon sugges ted I needed to have one eye for far and one for near. He suggested the multifocal lens, but my friend had it and has trouble reading when the light is dim
I usually get patients come in asking about Lasik, if they're candidates or not, benefits/cons, the whole gamut. Over the past year or so, I've been making it a point to study the entirety of this profession, and look into areas where I get a lot of questions on, so I'd be better prepared for those questions in the future.
A lot of what you've covered, I didn't know (while you can learn from virtually everyone you meet, an old saying goes "if you ever find yourself the smartest in the room, you're in the wrong room") but this channel, and this video as well, taught me a whole lot more about the field, and I thank you for that.
I will try to catch one of your next lives, as I always learn something from your videos.
Have a wonderful day, stay safe my friend!
Best decision in life for me. Have one eye lasik done at 64 and my only regret is not have it done sooner! Had reading glasses all over work and all over home! Not anymore! Suffered from dry eye prior surgery, but managing with Restaysis. Thank you for all this info!
update?
Is dryness totally unbearable? And after a week of surgery, were you able to look at computer screens for a long time? And what about driving at night? Any halos, starbursts?
Was it a difficult adjustment?
Although I personally think everyone should stay away from LAISK because it is hard to tell what the future holds once the cornea is thinned from the surgery, I do appreciate how honest you are and that you explain the facts.
The problem with LAISK only having a 1% complication rate is that if it happens to someone it 100% effects their life and not all of the problems are easily solved.
I agree; if a million people get it that’s ten thousand people suffering from complications
Hi all. I had LASIK in 2014. Still having dry eyes and Higher Order Aberrations. I am wearing scleral lense since 2015.
Contact lenses can also cause major damage. I have been wearing them for twelve years and told recently to go for lasik, because they have done major damage to my eyes including the growth of blood vessels! Of course glasses are the safest alternative of all. But they aren’t really an option for me all the time, as I have a high prescription, I’m very physically active, and I work in a field that I could be in danger if glasses are knocked off my face (I’m a mental health nurse )
I'm one of those people. I've had constant severe ocular pain since August 2020. I can see well. But the pain isn't worth it. It's been debilitating. Had to stop working. Can't drive on really bad days cuz sun is too bright. Can't drive safely. I have severe depression and anxiety not knowing what the future holds for my eyes. I've spent a small fortune on doctors co-pays, deductible, travel, missing work due to severe pain am headaches, scleral lenses that cost me 1300. Worst decision of my entire life.
What shit advice! Do you ever leave your house? Chances of dying in a car crash are 3.5% in your life time.
I loved this video. for the past few years I've wanted to do lasik but I've been pushing it off. now I plan on getting it in about a month or so. I was doing a lot of research on it and stumbled upon this video about a week ago but kept pushing off watching it. Now that I am I realized you're a great speaker and the time flew by when you were speaking
Did it? Are you happy with it? Thanks
I have dry eye , since laser surgery to remove cataracts and some correction dry eye has been a huge issue. My doctors have been trying to improve this for three years or more. Listening to you speak about these issue's is giving me a greater understanding of these procedure's being used . Also needed Yag Laser to correct foggy vision.
Great Info Thank You for devoting your time to help and educate the public World needs more people like you!!
Thank you JOE!
This was very helpful and informative.
I went with PRK June of 2018 and I used to be -7.50 in both eyes no astigmatism and now I am 20/20 and 20/30.
I am absolutely ecstatic with my end results. So the under corrected eye is helping me see things clear close (monovision) 👍🏻
Wow, I thought -6. 75 was too much to hope for 20/20!
Diegopiffa technology has really advanced to achieve this outcome.
U recommend monovision?
@@henrikgustav2294 mono vision is not for everyone. I suggest you try 2 different contact lenses first to simulate having mono vision and find out if it’s something you’d want to have done permanently.
Best of luck 👍🏼
Yes, my doctor actually recommended i leave my eyes a bit under corrected so that I don’t need reading glasses when I get older.
Thanks for bringing up the weather lady. I was considering lasik but the way this story was told led people to believe she committed suicide because of the complications with lasik, that it did something to her brain. I Didnt think it was possible but then again our bodies are fearfully & wonderfully made.
glad to know i can get this done since i have -2.25 in left eye and -4 in my right for the last few years
👍
Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge, with your sweet smile and friendly attitude. I'm so grateful. God Bless you.
Thank you so much for your kind words Jeanette!
What a handsome, knowledgeable gentleman 😍
I had lasik 18 years ago...it has saved a fortune and I can see, with no reading or other glasses, very well at 63. I highly recommend. I got pink eye when I had contacts and never again after lasik.
I had lasik and no regrets. I went to a doctor of good reputation and experience. As an artist I had a hard time seeing. Bifocals did not help much. After my lasik surgery, I could see much clearer. Not 20/20 at my age, but with readers, I could see clearer to do my paintings.
Hello Ana Mariía, I am also an artist "Painter" and I underwent lasik intralase with wavefront, I was very worried because I thought that no artist undergoes lasik for some reason, "I always see artists with glasses", but see your comment encouraged me
Me: "I'm scared of the risks"
Also me: *works in a prison*
Bro. Same. Lol well, jail but I understand the thinking.
I know its a joke but its a bad comparison, because you need the job to live, but you dont need this risky surgery if glasses can fix your vision
👍
@@suepy__ well I mean, you don't NEED to work in a prison either.
If you get punch hard, the flap can dislocate if you choice lasik.
Thank you very much for detail information about lasik. And special thanks for clear speech. I'm not native English speaker, so quality of speaking is very useful for me.
Thank you for watching!! I appreciate the support.
Thankyou for this info. Im so grateful , because im planning of getting the procedure my granddaughter, right now she needs to wait till she is at least 23 or older , and now i know why is that, thanks.
Thank u so much i tried one of ur treatments for dry eyes n it did work. I can’t thank u enough!! God bless you
Just got my Lasik last month .Im now 52 my doctor i might need reading glasses 5 more years.Im ok on that.As of now im happy and satisfied.
Super happy to hear that! Did you have any "WOW" moments afterword?
Evelyn A. Alcantara Did you see blurry in front of your eyes after the surgery?
How are yours Eyes now after LASIK.
I am 52 do i go for it???
After Lasyk I was able to see clearly for three years and then my vision deteriorated a bit. So I'm back to wearing glasses (not as strong as pre surgery) but sucks. I can't wear contacts as before surgery because I have a hard time keeping my eyelids open to put them in. 😞 But I'll say this though. What was awesome about the procedure was that I could notice my vision around the laser's light (periphery) improving with every firing of it.
And how are your EYES holding up now?
Can you get touch up corrections?
@@shannmaddox1836 uP
Dr Allan, I am so happy to watch you. You help me a lot I am very unhappy with the treatment that I had recently. I do believe that I had tear in my eyes. When I was checked from the hospital, the doctor said no tears, yet this other doctor said I have and perform the procedure straight away. I am very concerned because I have several black round floaters.
I will be 72 in March . I watched your video for the first time and realize it is 3 years old. However , I learned a lot I did not understand from the information you gave . I subscribed to your channel .
My issues have more to do with night driving blindness from oncoming traffic with what I believe is a stigmatism. I have an appointment with an eye doctor to confirm .
Thank you for explaining and look forward to more of your videos .
Love the way you explain everything, all the information were very useful!
you probably won't see this but I was wondering if you can make an extensive video about PRK surgery, I have high hyperopia (+12) but I still don't know if I'm a candidate for it or not
My eye exam 24 hours later I had 20/15 vision. There was a few things that I was feeling not good about the procedure. 1. I felt like cattle waiting to be branded as the place I went to was very busy. 2. The eye irritation lasted quite a while after. 3. The light bothered me for a week and I was getting headaches.
1 month after the procedure I can say I'm very pleased with the results. Although I'm not sure I'd do it again but it is a great option for people willing to deal with minor side affects.
Hey thanks for sharing your experience! Yes, many surgical centers feel like cattle waiting...they are usually set up to see as many people as they can in a single session.
What are your side effects I had surgery about a month ago. Still have dry eyes . That’s about it
Do not get it again.
I had a LASIK procedure of both eyes on December 2, 1999 by The American Eye Center in Manila, Philippines. Latest check up done was in August 2018. The doctor informed me that my left eye starts having a cataract that needs treatment. To date I still not decided to have cataract surgery as suggested by the doctor. Since that LASIK procedure I am using eye lubricant Tears Naturale II every time I am feeling dry eyes. I did not regret of having the LASIK procedure. I am aware that I have astigmatism currently because looking at the moon, the image is quite on a little duplication. I will be 68 years old in 2022.
You are really amazing Doctor and also great teacher! Love the way you make complicated stuff simple!
Loved the video, found so much information and I feel more comfortable with what I know now. I’m considering to ask my eye doctor if I’m a good candidate for this treatment. I only have one question left. Is there any special / specific care I should take after the surgery if I decide to go through this? Like not watching at screens or something like that. Btw thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. It’s literally eye-opening!! 😊
Good content as always. LASIK never really appealed to me simply because I never found contacts/glasses that inconvenient. That and the knowledge that I will still have to deal with presbyopia and cataract surgery later down the line anyway really keeps the temptation at bay. Perhaps the most compelling argument to me is the financial one, but even that doesn't really apply to me as I don't have to pay for my contacts at present either.
👍
How do u get to not pay for your contacts?
Just got LASIK done on Tuesday my eyes are feeling amazing and my vision is better than 20/20 it’s amazing
Thank you for putting in so many informative eye health videos. Keep posting more such videos, helps me make informative decisions. Now, I'm kind of not that scared of Lasik.
Thank you. I found this video very informative.
Very informative video, thank you! I am sharing it on Twitter. I do feel more comfortable with doing LASIK now even after spending a lot of money on glasses over the years. Also wanted to say that men tend to be less trusting of authority (doctors in this case) than women especially when it comes to highly sensitive matters like eyes and this is one possible reason for being hesitant. They just need more assurance that the particular doctor they meet will not make a mistake and turn them into one of those rare cases when things didn't work.
I totally understand that point about authority too. Thanks for sharing!
I had LASIK done my both eyes in 1998 In Bangkok. Personally it's successful operation. Happy life since 😊
Had lasik done yesterday and I can see beyond perfect compared to glasses no pain no dryness thx for your videos I learned a lot

THANK YOU for making this. I’ve heard such horrible things about LASEK and have been on the fence for a while.
I had lasik done almost 9 yrs ago and now I wear reading glasses but I think I would have done it anyway. Maybe my only regret is not having done it earlier in life. It is so good being able to see from afar, awesome!! Your video has been super informational and I really appreciate it. ☺️
Hey, im 18 but when do you think is the best time to get it done ?
@@dren.b the lower age limit is usually 21 and you need to make sure your vision is stable. However, it's ultimately up to the doctor to decide if you are a good candidate.
Do you have issue with dry eyes?
Hi Doctor! I got LASIK more than 6 years ago. Now i am facing with ghosting vision, starburst and halos. It did probably start more than a year ago, but now it is getting worse and more noticeable to make me so worried about that. I would love to hear from you the advice what i should do. I have gone to some doctors and they said it's because i have myopia again with -0.5D. However when i wear glasses, it does help me to see clearly but it wouldn't help with ghosting vision, starburst, and halos. Sorry for my English!
Need to check it for lens check, that's another eye problem that's called shadowed eyes

Tqvm Doc. May you be bless. 🤩
I had Lasik 16 years ago. I needed my glasses to get out of bed because I could not see. It was like a miracle. I have astigmatism so my vision was not corrected to 20/20 in both eyes, but always like night and day experience for me! Now I wear glassed to read and drive during the night. I wonder if there is a touch up I can do? I not it's all good!
This is what I’m curious about as well.
I had lasik done less than a week ago, and purchased a lifetime warranty for touch ups. Definitely possible!
Thank you for the info. I am looking into getting laser eye surgery
Your videos are awesome! So well explained. Thank you doc!
I appreciate your knowledge, very informative. Thank you for taking the time to become the professional you are.
Thanks for the great informative video. I had my all-laser (bladeless) lasik surgery a few days ago and I'm still struggling with dry eyes as well as halos/starbursts at night. My eyes also get tired very easily and quickly when I look at screens. But I could already see 20/20 the day following the surgery and that's a great feeling so it was definitely worth it.
Update!
@@justingross1535 it's been a month and a half since the surgery and while I noticed significant improvement when it comes to dry and tired eyes, the night glare around lights is not getting any better. Driving at night is pretty uncomfortable even when the weather is clear, if it's raining or snowing I just avoid driving at night all together. All things considered, I do not have any regrets and think it was definitely worth it.
Thank you! I am scheduled for the end of this month. I have always noticed halos and starbursts just as a glasses and contact wearer, such as when squinting. Makes me wonder if it will be severe since most people don't even notice those things before having the surgery
@@justingross1535 Every person is different so what I'm experiencing is not necessarily gonna be the same for you. Halos and starbusts were also something that I was very slightly experiencing before but it definitely got worse for me after the surgery, and that's fine, it's really not that bad only a bit uncomfortable for night driving. They also say that it gets a lot better months after the surgery so we'll see what happens in the future. And good luck with your surgery!

what you now
Metheorologist from Detroit had a rare complication. I can't recall what it's called, but basically it's when the nerves start to heal they form knots and eyes become ultra sensitive to normal things. So she was in excruciating pain 24/7.
There are other cases too. One of them was a man from Canada, who also committed suicide. His parents found boxes of research, different contacts and records from doctors' appointments. He was looking for a cure for 20 years.
I considered Lasik, but this really scares me.
It is true that people have experienced tragic cases. But that is true about almost any surgery. The tough part is that LASIK is an elective procedure and our eyes/vision is very precious. But when you study the statistics, the lasik procedure is incredibly successful and arguably one of the most efficient and successful surgeries ever invented.
You should look into the side effects of having a wisdom teeth removed & possible complications. Hell, even look at chemo
Great video as always. Love your enthusiasm. I had LASIK in 1996 and have huge regrets. Never could get good vision since then. Then my eyes got “super dry” and very sensitive to light. Issues I never had before. Now Im getting dry eye treatments. Pain the butt. I have mono vision. I can read with no glasses still. I can work and be at gym without glasses. But vision is never clear. It’s awful. So I’m now getting contacts and new glasses. I think the newer LASIK procedures might be better. But I think I had it too early and have huge regrets. If I was get anything today I’d get the ICL implant. Collemer lenses but need to be under 45, as just about any person has some cataracts. That excludes your ability to get that implant. I have so many defects in my vision and yes I have astigmatism too. If I could undo my LASIK surgery I would. And I have some autoimmune disease. Well good luck to everyone. Avoid it and just get a lens implant. No real cutting at all and no change of the cornea. Just tiny slits at sides of cornea. At least I have no Glsucoma. But still huge regrets that I gad any cutting of my eyes. Stupidity.
I have minor MGD. I got SMILE done and I am very happy with the outcome. I did a variety of different things to ensure the healing went well and feel it helped (many of which I do to this day as they are just good for eye health overall, and ensuring my glands stay healthy). I am a strong believer that anyone who has even the mildest of dry eye should be sure to understand the root cause and address that cause before even thinking of any sort of refractive surgery.
Hi Paul, what have you done for your MGD? Have you fixed it before or after getting SMILE?
@@mehmetbaristoyan491 Howdy - I got it under control before SMILE with a combination of a Bruder mask, eyelid scrubs/massages, omega 3 + curcumin supplementation, increased ambient humidity, HEPA filtration of the air, and a thicker eye ointment. Around a month of this and my optometrist told me my glands looked very healthy, at which point I did SMILE. Four months out, my end result is a shade better than 20-15 with almost zero residual prescription and no measurable astigmatism remaining. The eye dryness during the healing at their worst hasn't been any worse than when I wore contacts--about four months out, I use a Bruder mask and do a lid scrub once a day, still supplement, and use a drop of Celluvisc in each eye a few times a day, and the glands are in very good shape/eye dryness very limited.
When I was doing research before I chose to get SMILE, one thing I did notice was that among the people who had absolute nightmare experiences with refractive surgeries, one common theme was many seemed to have eye dryness/gland issues that were not under control before or after the surgery. My surgeon was pretty upfront with me as well, saying he had zero issues performing SMILE on someone with MGD, but that he would not touch eyes (not even for PRK or ICL) if it was not under control.
The more I learn about MGD, the more convinced I am that, if not controlled, sooner or later it will wreck ones vision. It's kind of crazy how common it is, and yet how little it is discussed.
I had this procedure 11 months ago and it went too well, but things have been a little blurry for like a month now. Idk what to do about that...could I have those touch ups?
I wish I could’ve seen this video before having the surgery. My doctor never mentioned any side affects and said that I’ll never need glasses again which was like a dream come true
Might have dry eyes, have it checked out. I wouldn’t do a touch up, to risky.
I've been considering getting evaluated for Lasik for a while now, I have really good near vision but awful far sight, and it's just a nightmare for school or even just going to a coffee shop and not being able to see the menu at all. Honestly, the flap thing always scared me out of it cuz I'm very squeamish about my eyes lol.
I think getting over the nerves is one of the toughest parts for sure, A big part is realizing your surgeon went to school for close to 13+ years and they are focused on doing the best job possible.
Thank you. Multiple sclerosis/MS here. Anyone can benefit from your advice.
I would take the risk.
Thank you so much for the valuable information. Your videos are excellent.👍👍
I have double vision, and I’m told it won’t work. I’ve had glasses, I was in 2nd grade too! My gosh, your eyes are beautiful
Could you make a video about Relex Smile as well? I'm more interested in this method for me and this is the newest laser surgery so worth to mention I guess :)
This is the surgery that caused Jessica Starr intense pain. Read up on Optic Neuropathy. There are something like 500-700 nerves in your cornea that will never heal back the way they were.
I have an appointment for a LASIK consultation but this video makes me reconsider lasik
I had Lasik 20 years ago and I have never been unhappy with the result
That was very thorough. Thank-you. I was considering Lasik about 20 years ago and was assessed at the Bochner Eye Institute. They told me I was not a good candidate due to my large pupils. Instead, they suggested an alternative - I think it was PRK. Anyway, after much research, I decided not to jump on my glasses/contacts. I didn't have the surgery.
So why do I have large pupils? I know I’m quite sensitive to light, especially if I get up in the night. What are the pros and cons to having large pupils?
Evolutionary speaking you would have an advantage in hunting at dawn. But this would be in a hunter and gatherer society.
Oh really? I was told that U have large pupils but they wanted me to get Lasik... Thankfully I didn't get it
Excellent video. I just turned 40 and had LASIK about 8 years ago. Right eye was never perfect and was always little blurry after surgery. Not sure how they said I was 20/20 when I struggled to read eye chart. Anyway, needed glasses couple years later. Doctor told me i had slight cataract that was the cause and refused to do touch up to cornea.
My question is can lasik and cornea scarring cause permeant “damage” to vision clarity ? If so, I’m not so sure it was worth it. Now I wear glasses and have pretty bad night time halos and not sure if it’s from cataract or cornea scarring ?
Hoping in 10 years they will have advanced in multifocal lens replacement. I hope the cornea scarring isn’t really a problem like I feel it is??
Thanks for any response !!
Thank you for making this video truly help me understand lasik and sum 👍👍👍
Thank you for these priceless advice n informations 😇💕
I would love to hear your take on toric implant lens for cataracts. I'm in the cataract, astigmatism vision correction category.
Very good topic. Not sure when I will get it that but hopefully soon. Maybe another livestream
My Mom did it last year. First time in her life she could see without glasses. Highly recommend based on her experience.
Do you think there is a connection to Lasik and developing eye floaters later on? Awesome videos btw extremely educational!
Really any surgery can be associated with floater development.
Thank you. Multiple sclerosis/MS here. Anyone can benefit from your advice.
I wasn't diagnosed for red-eye yet.
Loved your talk. I had LASIX and I had high astigmatism and high near sightedness, but LASIX did not work well thus had to start reusing glasses. But there is no regrets as I was able to get glasses with lower power.
No regrets but you had to go back to glasses ?…. That’s the whole point of the surgery
I had it done in Canada 1.5 months ago and need to get it done again … brutal
They are going to run some test on my right eye , March 2, 2020 at 1:30 PM 🙌👍👋🙏👌🤗👏👏
How’d it go? Did you get the tests done?
I just watched this. Does my late night gaming session will effect my post surgery. Or even after cornea healed does these sessions will effect my eye?
Just give up gaming and get a motorbike if your eyes bother you staring at a screen. :)
People that spend a dog's age on gaming are probably depressed, so correcting your eyesight might make you want to find better things to do with your life instead of gaming on your computer all night.
Cant wait to have this LASIK Surgery!
@@jeam3124 unfortunately no. Hopefully soon :)
I am.77yo with.catoract and dry eyes.and astygmatism..The Dr.suggested Lasix with the cataract surgery..After listening to you,I know I will have worsening problem with the now unbearable dry eyes. Thanks
Would love a video on keratoconus. I hate rgp & don’t wear them because I could never get used to them. My vision is terrible & need a solution/alternative to rgp lenses.
YES! I am planning on releasing some content on keratoconus soon! Have you looked into scleral lenses?
No I never heard of them. I will do my research on scleral lens! Thanks & can’t wait for video!!!
I have astigmatism. Have never worn contacts, but have had glasses for about 20 years. I'm scheduled for LASIK. Kind of nervous, but to me life without glasses even for a few years is just mind boggling and exciting. I am just tired of having to factor in glasses for every decision.
How did it go?
@@ntsims01 it went very well. Has made my life a lot better, and can't believe I didn't do it sooner.
@@chrissnoeberger192 can I ask you how was your prescription? And now?
Thank you for this video doc.
Thank you so much for the information. It is so necessary!
That's the cutest Doctor I've ever seen 😍❤
Would you prefer a lense implantation over lasic surgery to correct vision?
Already subscribed to your channel. Thank you for your useful information about eye health.
I have a consultation tomorrow and now I have actual questions to ask! Thank you. Didn’t realize the options available. Also, I need to not have unrealistic expectations with this. Sometimes I get to excited thinking about the outcome as if I’m going to see new colors or something! It lets me put the cost into a better perspective.
And I just learned that apparently pregnancy can change the shape your eyes! What does pregnancy not do???
Have you got your surgery?
I'm 21 and contemplating it, I wear contacts all the time and can't stand wearing glasses, doing my research and hopefully I will come to a conclusion!!
I did mine at 21 but please read my comments
Thank you for that informative video. 10 days before I had a Relex Smile surgery but since that I have especially problems with my near vision. I see things blurry, especially text passages for example looking at my smartphone. Are these symptoms common? If yes, how long took the recovery time to have a clear near vision?
Hmmm.. Are you over the age of 40?
@@DoctorEyeHealth No Im 30 years old.
Good job with the video!
One year ago I had a severe left eye bacteria infection because of bad contact lens hygiene. It left me blind for a couple weeks but with a lot of treatment and antibiotics and eventually steroid drops it sort of got back to normal. The bad thing is that it left a scar in the middle of it that makes me see things double. I’ve been wearing glasses which does not improve the left eye vision, there is almost no difference. I rely on my right eye completely. The perception of color is very good, it is the contour and shape of things that is extremely bad and blurry. I have had myopia for almost 15 years. I am considering lasik because I need a much better vision that glasses cannot offer.
Just be careful, this video clearly says that Lasik does not guarantee you better results than glasses.
update?
What type of lenses you were using before, daily or monthly? Update?
I second the comment below. Your eyes are very very beautiful.
I have been wearing glasses/contacts for 30 years now and after LASIK became common, every time I go to a doctor for glasses or lens prescriptions they tell my eyes are perfect for LASIK, it is almost risk free etc and if I consider it. And when I ask them `Why are you still wearing glasses then?` they get surprised and quickly dismiss the subject. I intend to save the entirety of my cornea for cataract procedure if/when needed and continue to use glasses/lenses.
You have good taste in guitars!
My contact prescription is a (left eye astigmatism) +5.50 with -0.75 (right eye) +4.00 After what you're saying about ranges, I'm now sort of worried I won't qualify.
I had a +5.00 with -3.25 on my right eye and I qualified. The center I went to still said I was a great candidate. I just had the surgery done and I am extremely satisfied. Don’t get discouraged with those ranges!
@@miriamaragonez8280 did you get 20/20 vision back? Did your astigmatism get corrected?
Great video Doctor Thank you !
I experienced weird side effects
I had the Relex smile procedure in April 2022. I looked at horror stories before I had the surgery but I ignored them and thought there is a very low chance that I will be one of these people who experienced complications. I was wrong, I did experience complications from the surgery. I experienced quiet bothersome side effects.
These side effects were persistent afterimages, hazy vision, spots, shadows, sudden blurriness, reduced vision in dim light, floaters, flashes, glare and starbursts. Shortly after the surgery I started noticing I get lots of afterimages whenever I look at bright lights. When I look at bright light and look away I can still see the imprint of the light shape in my vision. I know a lot of people have this but after the surgery I noticed that it is much easier and quicker for these afterimages to form and they last much longer than normal ( over 5 minutes!). I am now much more prone to getting these annoying afterimages whenever I look at bright lights and let me tell you they are quiet annoying since they disrupt my vision. Immediately after the surgery I also noticed I had bothersome floaters ( mostly in my left eye). These floaters are also quiet annoying. They are always there and they are quiet big. I asked the clinic about these two side effects and they said that it is not related to the surgery since they are to do with the back of the eye (the retina and vitreous) and not where they operated which is the cornea. However I find that hard to believe since I never had these problems before the surgery and its a big coincidence that they started happening right after I had the surgery. The fact is laser eye surgery does affect the whole of the eye and not just the cornea.
Overall I am not satisfied with the results because of these side effects. I was expecting top notch results for the high fee I had to pay for the surgery. Even though the intended correction has been achieved I still suffer from anxiety and depression as a result of these side effects ( especially the afterimages, hazy vision, spots and shadows).
My God I am so sorry. And I was complaining about starburst. These surgeons need to be held accountable, and research needs to be done to correct these complications!
