I am a scratch golfer and this is one of the BEST videos I have ever seen that simply explains how to swing the golf club. Great swing thought and one of the main things to focus on during the swing. Thanks for sharing Dan.
I had a lesson and I was told to do this. At first I was worried it would make me slice, but it actually improved my distance & accuracy without any additional effort
Dan, I have been following your instructional videos for a few months now. I am a huge fan. Everything clicked yesterday. I had 10 birdies and shot 67 at Druid Hills in Crossville, TN. I am 11 days shy of my 65th birthday and have a 2.5 index. Swinging with the body in conjunction with exiting left (along the circle) was my key thought. Been old school my whole life. The new modern swing is the way to go. Many thanks Dan!
Hello Dan, great video. I would like a demonstration/explanation on this swinging left concept for a driver which is swung upwards. What happens then? Maybe there is already a video produced you can reference to.
Our main bloke Dan here has on of the best understanding of the golf swing of anyone out there. When I hear it simply, clearly, i know this bloke knows exactly what he's talking about. Very special video. THANK YOU DAN. California Jim
Not all tour players "exit left". The majority do, I do lol, but not all tour players do. Great video as usual! The drill I do for this is to start with 5 balls/shots. Then I hit a 10 yard chip, a slightly longer 30 or 40 yard chip, a 50 yard pitch which is where you really begin feeling the club work around to the left, a slow motion/speed full swing then a full speed full swing. You could do as many balls as you like incrementally lengthening each shot while feeling the handle move more and more to the left. Works for me.
Hey Dan, stumbled across this video couple weeks ago. Just want to say thank you 🙏🏻, it has transformed my ball striking. Over the last few years I’ve been a patchy ball striker. My timing on the day would determine my quality of golf. I identified I was early extending and delivering a high handle at impact. This was causing me to lose the ball left (push slice as I’m a leftie). After weeks a weeks of chipping balls into my practise net using the drill and feels described. Went to the range and voila. Straight ball flight with a hint of a slight draw AND I was taking a divot with higher ball flight. Amazing. From my point of view understanding the dynamics along with the drill helps me implement routine. So cheers Dan really helped me out.
Most complete detail on swinging left (turning the corner). Especially like the image of bringing left arm closer to the body. Would like to see instruction to swing left through the ball with driver and woods.
Brilliant video. I've seen slo mos of Hogan, Snead etc swing with hands going so far left through the ball and hadn't a clue of how to do it. There are some key elements explained here that I would never have realised. Thank you very much.
Dan, great vid and tips. Yes have been transitioning to this swing. Have been playing since I was 10 and I’m 50 now and as you can imagine how many swing evolutions and concepts I’ve been through over the years. Basic principles still apply such as weight transfers , hip rotations, takeaways and follow throughs. The hardest part is to quiet down several elements that have been muscle ingrained over the years. The good part is this particular swing is not new to me since several elements of it are used in the short game for better control of the shot. All I had to do was transition that swing concept to my longer clubs. Now here’s the struggle, the timing and face at impact truly determines the direction of the ball. We’re talking a nano second for the face to be square at impact while the rest of the body is going through its movement to release left. The drill you shared will help me ingrain in the muscles the hand position at impact in relation to the body.
Superb follow up on the modern release especially the point with respect to hitting down on the ball. Club has to move inside else you will go right . Slow motion helpful for right foot at impact. thanks again.
Excellent Dan, I sometimes block it right when I stop rotating and use more arms and it's taking a while for me to figure out. You just explained it for me beautifully, thank you.
This is a great lesson - A+ Ive been getting stuck, push fan shots, snap hooks, inconsistent. The handle has not been exiting low and left, if anything its been exiting high and right with too much tilting back at impact. Hit balls today and this felt great. Thanks Dan!!
Dan, love this video about exiting left. Question: would you use the same principles with driver and 3-wood? Also how would you hit a full 5/6 iron with this technique? Thanks!!
10 Years on and I'm still using this drill! Top stuff as always!! Hope you Guys have had a Great Christmas, with Ole back at the "Theatre of Dreams" my Christmas was Perfect!
First time seeing one of your videos and perfect timing also. I’m a pretty good golfer low80’s but trying hard for years to be more consistently in the 70’s. I believe this is my missing link! Can’t wait to get out and try this. Will let you know in comments. Thx!
As golfers we feed off of hints and tips, searching for something that makes a positive difference. I've just had a really great session working on the feels and drills discussed in this video Dan. Let's hope it can carry on in to the next session and the next...and then the course....thanks!
Simply brilliant as usual Dan! One quick question. I have been applying your lesson for months now(turning left), I live by it and my contact has become more solid and consistent than ever. However, turning left has caused my ball to hook even more. (Been struggling with a snap hook prior to this) I know that I need to swing less in to out. But, another issue that came up was the structure of my golf clubs. My irons have a but of offset for it is designed for mid to high handies. And, my driver and woods are a bit draw bias(M6) So, would that cause my balls to hook when performing the modern swing?? If not, other than the in to out swing path, what factors would cause this horrendous hook when using the rotation swing???
Dan - having watched this and your other vids I just bought your vids - your explanation of the Modern Rotational Golf Swing is superb - it puts in to context much of what my coaches have been trying to get me to do, but with out the clear explanation, which you provide, it is much harder for me to execute.
I was never really sure how to properly "exit left" until watching this. Thanks Dan for making this important concept so easy to understand. I'm very excited to try this out on the range very soon
I’ve played for 35 years and doing this has got more more balanced through the ball than I can ever remember. I’ve not yet mastered this movement with the driver yet but working on it
Once again what an incredible explanation of the golf swing hats off to you sir .Unbelievable the rest of the world doesn't seem to have the ability to share this top secret explanation. Just practicing this manoevre immediately causes the mass of the club head to whip around the body unlike trying to cast it out towards 1st base thank you again for sharing.Look forward to the 2020 season 👍
This guy knows what he is talking about. Just started watching his videos today and I can testify. I was trying to keep my weight on the right as long as possible. Not entirely correct. I was hitting the ball really good SOMETIMES. What we want is more consistency. This guy will give you just that.
Fantastic vid. I’m shanking the stink out of my mid irons to wedges. I know my lead hip stalls and the hands go out and down the target line and don’t exit left. Thanks so much.
Coming down and through and ending up on your toes, does that cause the toe to drop. One day I noticed I was finishing on my toes but getting away with it but my wedges developed the shanks and squirts 30-80 yards out.
DAN! Thanks so much for this. I would see and hear teachers and videos where they talk about swinging left, and I would always ask myself "OK, left in relation to what?" Thanks for the great explanation.
This is a move I am working on Dan so this video is very useful. After practising this move on the practice area it was obvious that I was using muscles in my hips / pelvis that I hadn't used before. Is there a gym exercise or drill to strengthen those muscles? Thanks
Thank you very much Dan that was extremely helpful as I thought I may be doing something wrong with the elbows too tight to my right side as a lefty through impact!!! Just got to get my weight through🤯 that is my only downfall God dam this lovely game lol 🥴
Could had called the vid “The Secret to Shaft Lean”. Get this move down and I think everything gets easier including chipping. You touched on it quickly in this vid but a part two might be a vid on footwork. Maybe how the trail knee needs to work. Great vid and content as usual Dan. Thanks for taking the time and effort. Much appreciated!
Love your vids Dan, you are a gifted instructor. Question; what is a good feeling to get from a good top of backswing position, down to shaft parallel? Hands dropping, weight shift/bump?
Okay this is interesting as I've always tried to keep the hands traveling down the target line but I'll try it. I know I tend to chip like this anyway and my chipping contact always seems better. Thanks.
The light bulb went off for me with Dan's and Slicefixer's swing pattern (Hoganesque) when I just imagined an alignment rod was sticking out of the butt of my club and I try not to get whacked hard by it in the follow through. I do practice swings at home and on the range with the rod actually in the club to ingrain the feeling. Its ok if the rod gently touches your back on the through swing, just don't let it hit you real hard...
Another fantastic video, Dan. I'd like to see more vids in which you're working with players, either in your studio or on the course. Also, just as a constructive suggestion, I think it would be more appealing if you looked and sounded less stern in the intros, in particular. Cheers!
How does this swing translate into a full swing with driver or even mid irons? I know the pros stay down on the ball but it still seems like most are releasing the arms and hands just after impact. I’m sure you can make this swing work but it’s very hard for me to feel like I’m generating power without putting so much force into rotation. And at that point, I have no idea where it’s going to go. I understand this swing for like 60% punch shots or chips but dont understand it for full longer shots.
I just watched a DTL video of my swing in real time and I noticed that I was exiting left. I thought it was a bad thing, obviously not from this video. Could you exit left even if you have an OTT swing path?
Hi Dan I’ve just ordered a Swingyde training aid. Is it good for the driver swing too? I haven’t seen a video on here with it connected to a driver. Cheers Ben Sydney, Australia
Really hard to go from a rolling release hand flipper player to this correct and rotational swing. It's like, no power in the release for swing speed. Guess it'll come with doing the drill. great instruction thank you
Just came across this video but yes I’m the same way. I’ve always been a rolling release and got very good at controlling it. This swing feels very restricting to me and awkward because I feel like I have to hold the hinge which feels very forceful and I don’t like that I can’t really keep my eyes on the ball through contact since your body has to keep turning even before you make contact. I also don’t understand how you get as much swing speed when it feels like it’s an all body swing with no implementation of the hands and arms. Wouldn’t this result in a lot of torque and strain on your body and knees?
I went to the range after watching this video. I tucked my shirt under my left arm pit and focused on keeping my left arm as tight to my body as I could. It helped me straighten out my ball flight. I’m excited to try it more.
Dan, is this also “swinging level”? And when I try to visualize this I can’t help but worry about coming over the top. And we have seen many of videos about separation of upper & lower body. Is there separation?
I've been working on this even though I didn't realize it was "swinging left". For me, it felt like my right hip was squaring up to the target and everything else just turned left. And hell yeah it works with hybrids, fairway woods and drivers. It's amazing how straight the ball flies. It feels like your entire body is unloading into the ball instead of a weak arm swing.
Thanks Dan! After learning golf, my first major swing modification was this move via the Slice Fixer's 9-3 drill. I think might want to go back to it. Thanks for the video.👍
Your a very top class coach Dan , great videos 😊, I know your into biomechanics any specific drills / stretches / exercises to prevent early extension , feelings to get rid of it , although this video is just what I need , will really work on this , 👍🏻

No one talks about this. "modern release" thought changed my ball striking forever. For those worried about over the top, have to learn how to get in the proper slot with square face during transition first or else this can for sure lead to that.

I completely agree. I have yet to see a single swing coach do what Dan did.

Great video? Can you something on pace of swing? Rhythm? And trigger for downswing?
Great explanation of a tricky concept
Brilliant video. I'll definitely be using this drill very soon. Thanks Dan.
Club face where does it go towards to target when grip exit left?
Fantastic video. I enjoyed the compete picture you provided with this video.

Greatest golf coach on UA-cam.
I can only agree with the previous comments. Excellent explanation Dan! Will definitely try this!
Anytime I start to struggle with a 2 way miss. I come back to this video. A quick recap of Dan’s advise and I’m back.
I like it bud like to have a slowmotion of a full 7i swing please to learn
It makes your hips rotate and clear I've found
Excellent video as always. Something I am currently working. Question: would it be more like a feeling of cutting across the ball i.e playing a face?
Another fantastic video, Dan. I'd like to see more vids in which you're working with players, either in your studio or on the course. Also, just as a constructive suggestion, I think it would be more appealing if you looked and sounded less stern in the intros, in particular. Cheers!

Can you do a moe norman swing analysis!
I just watched a DTL video of my swing in real time and I noticed that I was exiting left. I thought it was a bad thing, obviously not from this video. Could you exit left even if you have an OTT swing path?
Will the ball flight not fly straight if the arms extend after impact as opposed to being pressed against the body?
Dan, Do you do this with the driver? Or does this promote a big hook because of the attack angle?
Hi Dan
I’ve just ordered a Swingyde training aid. Is it good for the driver swing too? I haven’t seen a video on here with it connected to a driver.
Cheers
Ben
Sydney, Australia
Hi Dan, is this irons only ?
This video hits different now. Thanks man
Do you need any side bend on the downswing?
Sir, how it is different than flipping of the club?
Really hard to go from a rolling release hand flipper player to this correct and rotational swing. It's like, no power in the release for swing speed. Guess it'll come with doing the drill. great instruction thank you

Where do you suggest playing ball position for the various clubs?
excellent video. the only way to prevent hand manipulation to square the club at impact is to keep rotating the lower body to square it instead
i went from a 15 hcp to a 1.3 handicap in just 14 months by applying a simple swing of just a weight shift and a lower body rotation
Spot on as usual! Thanks Dan
Very good explanation,
Great content this ties in nicely with a recent lesson!
Dan, is this also “swinging level”? And when I try to visualize this I can’t help but worry about coming over the top. And we have seen many of videos about separation of upper & lower body. Is there separation?
Best explanation I've heard!!
HI Dan can you swing this way with the driver?
Geat video Dan, does this apply to all clubs or just irons?
I've been working on this even though I didn't realize it was "swinging left". For me, it felt like my right hip was squaring up to the target and everything else just turned left. And hell yeah it works with hybrids, fairway woods and drivers. It's amazing how straight the ball flies. It feels like your entire body is unloading into the ball instead of a weak arm swing.
Scott Willi cheers mate
Does this work with driver as well?
Hey Dan. Do you have to have the right elbow bent at impact?
Thanks Dan! After learning golf, my first major swing modification was this move via the Slice Fixer's 9-3 drill. I think might want to go back to it. Thanks for the video.👍
this is so crucial ! thx
brilliant video. finally i understand this concept
Your a very top class coach Dan , great videos 😊, I know your into biomechanics any specific drills / stretches / exercises to prevent early extension , feelings to get rid of it , although this video is just what I need , will really work on this , 👍🏻
Check out some if Dan's latest vids . He did one a couple of weeks back on stopping early extension.
Thanks found some of his great content since I posted 😊
Nice vid. Sums up some of the fundamentals from my latest lesson
This is the golden nugget of playing good golf.
Is it that way with the driver thanks
Really interesting this - how does this effect the ball flight? I feel like it would be hard to hit a draw doing this?
If you do it correctly I find you hit very compressed straight shots as face is so square. The harder you rotate body the more of a fade you’ll hit
@@georgeelliott1045 Yea I had the same exact question because I prefer a draw. What I don’t like (like you said) is it seems there’s a lot of variability with ball flight in how hard you swing. Obviously that can go with any type of swing but I got really good at hitting my lines with more of a rollover release without having to adjust for how hard I’m swinging.
Does this apply to the driver?
How do I avoid lifting my left heel in the backswing. It’s one of my issues. Especially with the driver.
I don’t think it’s necessarily an issue… depends if you’re keeping your left knee stable or not in the backswing, or if you’re allowing it to collapse in?
ua-cam.com/video/ke1wlwwdwCc/v-deo.html
Would you have passive hands, body release?
Passive hands. Think of the hands as a 'clamp', nothing else, i.e. no manipulation of the club face via hands.
The sensation I feel when I get this right is I’m almost rising up out the shot before I feel impact. Guess that’s the feeling of everything clearing and not being stuck. Just wish I could keep it all the time 😂
I like it! Thanks Dan
Weight in the heels thought useful... Thanks
That's cleared that up!
I do this "swing left" and really pull the ball, any advice?
That is either because your club face is too closed at impact, or you are swinging from out to in, or a combo of both.
You might also want to check your Ball position.
Very good.
Ok Dan only just found yr vid...mate Brilliant....So good So easy im NOW smashing my 7 iron an hybrid....
What’s the story with that golf bag ? Or are you 15 feet tall ?
No one talks about this. "modern release" thought changed my ball striking forever.
For those worried about over the top, have to learn how to get in the proper slot with square face during transition first or else this can for sure lead to that.
This is THE golf swing.
We feel a down, we don't hit down..
I never knew that Vanilla Ice could golf.
