@@imcrummy6114 That I understand. But there is some problem with the US trade: if I want some knife or perhaps moonclips from US manufacturers because of (perhaps higher quality and accepting 50% higher prices)they are unable to sell me their wares and send them to Europe. China doesn´t have that problem. How do you think you win the trade war with such attitude?

Looks like it can be had on Amazon for $20 at the moment. Considering the precision engineering that goes into that thing, that's not a bad price. There's plenty of people who are crazy about pocket clips that will pay that no problem. Personally, I see the fact that a SAK slips so nicely down into a pocket as an advantage. It's comfortable to carry and I'm not likely to loose it. I regularly pay $15 to add a set of plus scales to my SAK just to get a little pen that I very rarely use, so if you want to pay $20 for a well made pocket clip, I won't judge. That said, the affordability of SAKs is part of what makes them great and it is a bit silly to add expensive accessories to them but, it's a hobby.

Add your own clip. I did that with a Spyderco Endura when I broke the plastic clip they used to come with. I just screwed a clip to the handle as well as used JB weld. It will be even easier on plastic scale SAKS as they don't have the texture that the Endura has.

I find that really useful and I miss it for my smaller SAKs like the sportsman or the cadet, but I wouldn't spend 25$ on that. I wish Victorinox came up with models that had this as a standard. The larger ones that I actually find more useful - like the forester or even better the hercules - I always carry in a belt sheath.

I've carried a Leatherman with a pocket clip in my back pocket for a while, but the thing was too heavy for dress pants at my new job. I've been looking to find the best minimalistic Victorinox to carry instead, but the SwissClip unfortunately won't fit the 84mm knives I like. As others have pointed out, a Techsmart P7 clip that attaches to the key ring might actually work better; it's cheaper, smaller, and shows less of the knife anyway.
I want to carry both a SAK and my Streamlight in my back pocket, but it looks weird for me to have a bunch of large or shiny clips sticking out when my shirt is tucked. I've tried putting the knife down in my pocket, but it's just not as comfortable and rattles around against my flashlight.
Any suggestions? Would a Techsmart P7 clip perhaps be better?

It is basically a Ranger that is only as thick as a Huntsman. I call it a Compact Ranger...I have another the same without the metal saw, chisel and mini screw driver but it has a hook...I call that a Compact Huntsman. I keep my SAKs on my belt in leather sheaths that I made for them...not in my pockets. I don't like bulky crap in my pockets.
"Too Much Money?" There are a lot of folks running around carrying $550 sheath knives that don't cut any better than a $40 Condor. Meh. "Overpriced" is a matter of your budget and wants.

Can always count on you for a deep dive and honest review of an EDC/outdoor product. I’ve been drawn to the James Brand Ellis (mostly due to the Spyderco style wire clip). Living in the UK it’s always an issue with what you can get away with carrying… Blade has to be non-locking and under three inches. That’s why most UK EDCers carry a Victorinox or Spyderco UKPK. I was looking at this as a solution to get more use out of my Super Tinker, but may sway to. The Ellis and keep a very small key-chain style SAK in the 5th pocket of my jeans for tinkering tasks. Then you still have some drivers and the scale tools. Man, it’s such an endless rabbit-hole trying to get the perfect gear to settle on. That said, I have found my perfect EDC flashlight for my personal needs, and that is the Acebeam Pokelit AA. The user interface is perfect, as is it’s versatility. Only way it could be improved would be being a AAA size with the same kind of firepower, plus a magnetic tail base (without losing the tail switch. Anyway, excuse my complete ramble and thanks again!

Having said that, when travelling, camping or hiking I carry a larger knife in a sheath with some more features like an awl, a magnifying glass, screwdrivers, small saw and such. Also carry a sturdy fixed blade Finnish knife if going for some archery or camping.

I do like the Swiss army tools I think that for the price most of them are perfect for backpacking camping EDC and it's not that I don't like Leatherman I own four and you can get Leatherman for about 40 bucks basic model I don't need anything too extravagant it works

I agree with your “hard pass” assessment of this ridiculously over-priced accessory. It’s like the insane markups that car dealerships slap on accessories like Scotch Guarding the seats, floor mats, window tinting and a host of electronic add-ons.

This is a great video. When I first saw this clip (was watching another video), I went to their site, with the shipping to Canada converting from US to CND would cost me $93.53. This clip is worth more than what I paid for my Hunstman!!! No Thanks....

I like the idea of that pocket clip I do have the tinker and I have the Spartan in my opinion I prefer the Spartan more than the tinker in my opinion because the Spartan actually has the corkscrew and the corkscrew can hold a new product called the fire ant fire steel and they have another fire steel from the same company tortoise gear called the Firefly fire steel and they come in two different sizes for the small keychain Swiss army knife or the 90 1 mm or even the 111 mm it makes your Swiss army knife in my opinion that much better keep on bringing us good content I subscribe and like this

I can't say the price would be a big problem if I really wanted to clip a swiss army knife to my pocket. The real issue, as I see it, is how far it would stick out clipped to a pocket and how often it would catch on things.

My gunsmith once told me, "You pay me for what I know...not what I do." Same here...you pay for what it does and not what it is. Frankly at 26 bucks, you got ripped. Even on Amazon it's under $20. Usually discounted at knife shops for the mid teen. Yes, it is too much for the materials used. But it's worth every penny in it's engineering. We use it everyday and love it.

I find your gunsmith's point alluring.
The clip is a neat idea, but is not for me on the models SAK I tend to use, ie three/four layers. I find they are too bulky already to carry in the top of the pocket.
Glad you're happy with your purchase.

I can’t stand the feeling of things loose in my pocket. Received my 1st SAK as a gift so getting the clip isn’t too bad for me but still I would probably never carry it if it was just hanging loose in my pocket.

So you’ll end up with a SAK + clip for around $50, for what is arguably one of the best pocket multi tools (non-pliers based). That seems like such a great value… is there really a cheaper option?

I would buy SAKs so much more if they had pocket clips on them. I have a Rangergrip that I love and others but seriously need pocket clips on their knives.

Most of us Europeans don't use pocket clips. I have one on the rescue knife i carry in my sleeve pocket but for me they usually are in the way not helpful. My Victorinox Fieldmaster is on the bottom end of my keychain. And before i used it, 35 years ago, it just rode at the bottom of my pocket. I think i still had my Hiker type back than it got confiscated by a bobbie when i visited the UK because it was a locking blade. It turns out that you can't have a locking blade on you in England, just a heads-up.

Sad. Don't understand way European citizens allow their governments to restrict them so much.

I understand the usefulness of clips but i don't care for them on my Victorinox tools. As long as the SAK and pliers have something to hook on i just use a paracord "suspender" for my belt. I did so for my SwissTool as well and it's far better than sheaths.

It's quite un-traditional to have a Qlip on the Swiss army knife but then again, we all pimp our tools.! I created a clip for my Swiss army knife and it can be use for all (almost anyway) multi tools. From Coleman to Trojan to Gerber to even Leatherman. Will definitely watch Live The Trek. The whole family watch your show mate. We'll give you our review..ha! ha!. Thanks for sharing.

While it hurt to hit the pay button. $20 + $20 shipping. It is really nice to have it on there. And if I ever decide to get a different SAK, I can just pop the screw out and put it on that one. Now if it was a single use item that mounts on and never comes off, it would be a hard HARD pass. But overall I like my SAK way better with it

  • @Bearded_Tattooed_Guy

I think its a good idea to get the knife up from the bottom of the pocket, wear and tear, lint and general debris...
    but at what cost?
The price is horrendous, the clip ads too much bulk, and it takes an effort to get it to ride flush with the top of the pocket.
I also find all but the slimmest SAK to be too thick to be worn at the top of the pocket, only one and two layer knifes are slim enough for such carry.
And there's the nitpick regarding access to the tweezers.
    It's a pass for me.

  • @thecatadors911
    @thecatadors911 5 місяців тому

I foolishly bought one of these and as soon as i installed it i hated it. I actually use the hook for my magnet and tieing rebar together and the clip makes it impossible to dig out without another tool, the tweezers need the toothpick like he says, and it was super expensive. I was under the impression i was getting 2 bc the pic showed a silver and a black together but thats more on me for not double checking. It is a really great clip otherwise and if they could find a way to remove the top profile prohibiting u from getting to the tweezers and maybe have the back screw sit flush with the hook instead if poking out, it could be a great product… oh and if ur gonna sell em at over $20, at least give us both the silver and black together

if anyone looking for a cheeper alternative here is a quick tip:
Take a hair pin (those cheep black ones) and put it in the scale with the toothpick. it's not amazing but it's do the job
