Man these high end Shimano Reels are so crazy nice Dennis. Great Video my Friend.
Yes they are!
Thank you, Dennis!!! I was hoping you were going to get to this one. I fish this same reel in a couple of different sizes, and all I can say is, it’s hard to pick up my other reels. It’s one of the smoothest, and best engineered reels on the market today. Once you fish these Twinpower SW or Stella SW models, it’s hard to go back. My hats off to you my friend. These reels are definitely not for a beginner to service. Great Job, and great video! Take care.
Thank you - yes, you do need to ease into these by building some skills and confidence. Not a beginner's reel fro a service standpoint - Dennis
Well worth watching. Totally convinced. Me to get my reel professionally serviced.
Thanks and thanks for watching - Dennis
Love the TP from Shimano.
Though I have to admit, I cringed when you took those pliers to unscrew that cap.
There are ways to protect these caps from scratching, when unscrewing - you can use a rubber band around the cap, but I use a small rubber ball to press again the cap and twist. It’s an old trick I’ve used to open the backs of mechanical watches when servicing higher end time pieces.
Also, forget about having s bunch of wrenches. Get yourself a Knipex plier-wrench. I have the XS model with is super compact but works on every reel you can possibly need to service.
Thanks for the tips. Sorry for the cringeworthy moment! Dennis
Another great video Dennis! Thank You! You think sometime you could show us your camera and lighting setup? Thank You!
The camera is a canon Powershot SX740HG. I use a small tripod that stands about 16 inches above and points down. The lightening is a 2 build shop sign with LED bulbs approximately 4 feet above my work surface. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Wow Dennis ! Way Too Many Pieces ! David Is Right ! I'll Pass .
I’m always interested interested in seeing how many different size screws are in a Shimano like this. Most of my Shimano reels are either the 1970s silver MLZ reels or the 1980s SSG 7000 rear drag reels. The worm gear drive in this reel looks just like the ones in my Daiwa Emblem reels. Why is this reel called “Twin Power”. This is a very nice reel but you know why I don’t want one. Thanks for sharing this one. I’ve wanted to see the inside of these reels. - Chris
Always learning Chris!
At the price of this reel im a bit disappointed to see no extra bearings just a few rubber seals extra i was going to buy one but i will pass . Thanks Dennis love your teardowns . 😉👍
Will have to download schematics of any more reels i buy before purchasing to see whats inside . 🤔
Fair enough!
These upper end Shimano egg beaters have a proprietary "water proof" coating on certain internal parts. They don't share it with the public/owner. Routine maintenance removes it. Anyone but Shimano maintaining it, voids the warranty. I think there is a price point where when you reach over it, you are really losing money.
I got my twin power back from servicing with Shimano but the bail arm seems to have a gap between the arm and rotor itself on the opposite end of the line roller. The screw is tightened down but the gap is still evident, do you know of a method I could fix it without sending it back in with Shimano as this time it took me 2 months to get my reel back
That usually means that the bail wire is bent. You can remove the screw that does not have the spring assembly inside and gently compress the wire to restore the share. That should narrow the gap - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle I'll try that, thank you so much for the tip
Reels are not getting easier to work on, if anything much more difficult !
Yup, Yup, Yup!!!!!
when i go put back the reel together on my 2015 sw5000hg, the rotor nut cant reach the threads and wont allow me to hold the rotor still... any suggestions sir?
Check to see if you can pull up on the pinion gear. There is sometimes play that allows the pinion gear to slip down durning assembly. If you can pull it up, you should be able to get the nut on it
@@2ndChanceTackleand what if I can’t pull the pinion gear up to give it more threads… the clutch assembly holds it down more not allowing me to grab any threads
