  • Songs of Conquest is a brand new turn based strategy game, with military conquest, empire management, resource collection and progression models that make Songs of Conquest gameplay an enjoyable blend of a Turn Based Strategy game and an adventure game. Songs of Conquest takes place on the strategic map, varied in design and 2d-pixel graphics in presentation, this new strategy game seems to be inspired by (and dare I say overtake) the likes of Heroes of Might and Magic. Songs of Conquest was an unexpectedly amazing find for me, even in early access - with a lengthy alpha testing period and some five years of development from Lavapotion (published by Coffee Stain Publishing), Songs of Conquest is an enjoyable game. In this video I offer my early access review of Songs of Conquest, meant as a stylistic songs of conquest beginners guide and introduction to the wider subgenre. I'll ask - what is songs of conquest? is songs of conquest fun? is songs of conquest worth it? What is songs of conquest? I think there's a lot of potential in Songs of Conquests Campaigns, incrediible early access modding capabilities, and multiplayer modes already live and functioning. While I doubt Songs of Conquest is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits, and the AI may be a little dumb, the game is a fantastic early access experience. This is my first look Songs of Conquest review (songs of conquest early access release date May 11 version reivewed).

    I'm not in agreement with the claim that "Price of the game should not be priced the same as a triple-A game, because developer is not a triple-A develper."
    Games like this one is much better then most triple-A games. Games should be priced by how much value (fun, gameplay time) the players get. Not by how big the company that developed the game is

    • @uncannygames3min
      @uncannygames3min 2 роки тому +4

      100% agreed; its current price is more than worth, even in early access. Even if it was $10 more I still think it would be worth it!

    • @_rumple_5199
      @_rumple_5199 2 роки тому +1

      Fun is a relative value; one person's fun is not the same as another's. Pricing for triple A games has to be based on the amount of hours it took for its large staff to complete it. Typically they involve vastly superior graphics, especially compared to this game. I'm not putting this one down, but the graphics are hardly cutting edge (yes, I know gameplay trumps fancy graphics) but I'm just trying to point out that it's wishful thinking to think that a triple A game has the same value to the consumer as a low budget game does just based on perceived value.

    • @Spherac
      @Spherac 2 роки тому +1

      Nope, Triple A games are way more complex, have way more assets/mechanics that require a lot more manpower to create. You can spend 10k hours playing Tetris and have a good time, doesn't mean that Tetris now has same or higher value as Uncharted or something alike.

    Finally a HOMM successor game with terrain elevation features in combat. More terrain interaction = more fun combat

      The effect on terrain in SOC is wayyyy more important and impactful that HoMM for sure. A lot of the early phases of manual combat is the race to seize high ground.

    Before I watch, here's what I think Mr. Pixel will cover:
    - The Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin
    - Come A Runin' Boys, University of Nebraska fight song
    - La Marseillaise, French National Anthem (wins for "Most Use of the Word 'Blood'", and "Best Use of 'Parricide'")
    - We Hate England, Tartan Army
    After the video:
    - OK, not what I was expecting but Jumbo was in top form as usual.

    • @uncannygames3min

      The tutorial is well explained and the UI is pretty intuitive. If you've played anything like Total War etc, you should be good. That said, the combat and AI is quite unforgiving, so maybe try playing the campaign on lower difficulties to start learning the in and outs of the game mechanics!

    Shitty Ubisoft cant be botherd to make a good HoMM game with x times the budget and people. The last two where horrible abominations, even HoMM 5 was already a bit off. Good i didnt give my money to any AAA Studio or Publisher in years.

    I have a sincere question: if you don't like pixel art graphics, why did you name your channel JumboPixel? I feel like that pushes against the audience you're looking for.

  • @kcw1879
    @kcw1879 2 роки тому +3

    You should be aware, I purchased the game, and the game mechanics so far seem very stable and well done. The pixel art on the other hand, drives my eyes crazy. Telling buildings and units apart can be maddening. And good luck figuring out if you already visited each of dozens of buildings in the blur of rainbow pixel art exploding all over the map. After about 3 hours, my eyes actually started hurting and watering (and I don't wear glasses). I don't prefer pixel art, and in detailed strategy games like this, it can be just awful visually.

    Is it just me or is this differentiation between 2d and 3d games in Strategy games is often missleading? It's not like in mario, where 2d and 3d are cleare differences in gameplay. Playweise there is not really a difference between 2d AoE 2 and 3d AoE 3. In the civilization frenchize I couldn't even tell you out of my head which game switched from 2d to 3d.
    I feel like in Strategy games it (often) is only an artistic decision. The only feature I sometimes miss in these 2d games is the change of the camera angle, but tbh. I barely use that anyway

    • @moritzm.3671
      @moritzm.3671 2 роки тому

      Because I my self was interested, Civ 3 was the last 2d Civ. Civ 4 was 3d. And if you look at gameplay (or played it yourself) I think this would be one of the last differences you would mention.

    You sound so happy and surprised to get multi-player, yet this is 2022 and early access or not, this should be a given. Yes, there are a lot of early access and full games with multi-player either omitted or not even working, that I guess your surprise is well warranted. I'm just glad this game looks fairly fleshed out initially compared to games like Fallout 76, as an example, that were abysmal on launch.

    usually graphics are really low on my list of "things that matter" in games. After a playthrough or 2 they just become whatever background that matters not. This game seems to hit a LOT of what I enjoy! However, I have watched several vids and streams on this game and I cannot follow the game play because the graphics are so poor. Which blurry building is that? I find even with my rather nice big monitor I am pause and leaning in and squinting. Just really a step too far.

      It's not that the graphics are bad, it's just that you're completely insensitive to pixel art.

    • @alfarabi73
      @alfarabi73 2 роки тому +1

      I agree with Brutalus. The graphics/animation hurts my old eyes too much for me to enjoy this. Too bad, because I like most of the things that this game brings.

      I played pacman on the original atari game system. I played Zelda. The original. When it was released. I would hardly agree with a blanket statement that I somehow am insensitive to 2d graphics. Calling blurry 2d mishmash "pixel art" does not somehow make it ok to be hard to play.

      Kingdom: new lands is a game that has pixel-art-style and I really enjoyed that one. For a one dimensional game the world seemed to have more depth than in reality.

    it's a reverse racist game - there's no adequate european male heroes at all
    I remember that in heroes of might magic 3 there was a perfect balance between males and females, races etc.
    But here when I try to find a hero which can represent my personality I find none (only old guy or a fat guy).
    There are no positive male characters in campaign at all, no choicesl - is it LGBT/SJW game ?
