Lavapotion, the developers, are a fantastic team that kept constantly informing about the development of the game. Really nice guys, comparable to Larian. The game is also pretty solid, with its own personality. I highly recommend it.
And yes, Sseth made me to buy it
As a long time fan of HOMM3, and M&M series in general, I am really hyped for this game. This game is probably the closest we got to HOMM in the last 10 yrs. Also the lovely Pixelated 3D asthetic helps too.
Oh how I love playing Rana haha. The worst thing about this game is that there's not more of it.
I like their storyline
Good news, there will be a rana DLC on winter 2025
This game honestly has some of the most beautiful pixel art I’ve ever seen. The map looks like a bit of artwork.
I am constantly mixing this game up with Symphony of War The Nephilim Saga
Their visual language in their art is so similar!
They actually share the same pixel artist for their units! So good find!
OK good so its not just me.
Getting this game just for the hexagon grid. Hexagons are the Bestagons.
I have owned this game for a while now.
I love it. It feels like a love letter to HOMAM but still being its own game. The music is lovely!
I hope you are gonna do a 100% video on this title, it looks amazing!
It is amazing. I've been playing since early early access. Replayability is quite high I would say too.
@@Peter-lj2fvhow good is the AI?
I would say it's pretty good. It definitely gives you a challenge. I would say the first campaign is the easiest but that doesn't make it any less fun.
a lot of people complained about it.
@@underpowergaming they listened to the community and overhauled the AI.
I bought this on early access on your original preview. Nice I can play a whole game now thanks.
So it's finally out ! Don't know if we will be getting a review though, that's not exactly in Mort's usual ballpark and may be very time-consuming to 100%
No current plans for a 100% on this one
Songs of Conquest is a really neat game. I suck at games like this, but I managed to push though and win a few randomized campaigns.
I'm already 10h in. Game is truly great. You can just feel that devs really care about making a special game.
Also - Good god it's a gorgeous looking game!!
such a hidden gem, I have it since release. Try it it's worth the price many times over
Hey hey people
Sad here....wait...
Played heaps of this in early access on skirmish with mates, but now that it’s out fully I don’t think there’s enough new stuff in it for me to continue playing it
Nice one, really liked it!
I really like this game, but sadly i am shit at it and could not finish the third mission of the Rana campaign, even on the easy difficulty.
I realize this is a me problem and don't hold it against the game.
Love the artstyle, the music and the general vibes.
If you take a recommendation, check out Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. I am close to 100% and feel that the game fits your taste and 100% is fun cause over half of the game is optional bosses/summons.
I havent messed around with the zodiac age release, but the original version of FF12 is one my all time favorite games so yes I do indeed love it.
@@MortismalGaming Glad to hear you liked it. I replayed FF12 with the Zodica Age on PC for a 100% playthrough and the new QoL improvements like graphics, 60 fps, 4x Speed and new UI make it even more enjoyable.
The game is underrated and it came before its time and no one ever talks about it anymore even though I consider it the closest thing to a "perfect game", at least design-wise. I'm sure your fanbase would love it so keep in mind if you ever have space.
How is this compared to the upcoming title called “Silence of the Siren”? It also looks and feels very similar to HOMM.
Would love to see more bg3 and pathfinder videos! Hope you're doing well
Not much more I can say about BG3 at the moment, but there's some pathfinder content coming over the next month
This seems very simliar to the King's Bounty line
How is this on Steam Deck?
Full controller support and verified for the steam deck :)
Quite demanding for what it is.
I recommend this game.
Gronk!
Good show sir
I donated my gaming pc today as I’m moving countries next week. First time I’ve been without a pc in about 15 years. I’ll be picking up a PS5 once I settle in at my new location. That should hold me over for a few years at least.
Wow moving countries! Good luck
Hey Mortismal, you mention 3 story campaigns but in your video, it clearly looks like there are four. Did you just misspeak or is the fourth not finished yet?
I'm almost positive there are 4 campaigns, I saw this explained in a different review. He probably just misspoke.
There's a correction on screen and you can see the four campaigns on screen as well. Sometimes its not worth the editing time to redo the audio completely when I can just show the correction.
@@MortismalGaming
I don't see a correction on screen, but thanks for the clarification.
This is a very good game, but I feel like it needs another faction
There might be some interesting news coming shortly.
❤
Comparing this is HoMM feels a bit unfair, it had years to refine and add content, we are currently seeing the foundation of yet is to be.
Sure SOC could've brought in more content what is tested and true, but I appreciate a more slow paced approach to content, hopefully it will grow more and more
Is this game friendly to those of us who aren’t good singers?
No, in fact it will frame you for crimes as a result.
@@MortismalGaming ha! Oh no!
HoMM3 has so many factions with unique units compared to this. I thought it was ok but doubt I will ever replay it
I was a bit disappointed with Songs of Conquest as a very long time HOMM fan, it's not a bad game by any means but I was hoping for something a bit closer to the original with an evolution, this is a very different game with it's own style and I just did not gel with it at all
I found this too. I definitely enjoyed it, and I like the magic system, but nothing ever scratches the itch that HOMM3/5 do.
Same here.
It seems to have a lot of Age of Wonders influence.
Yeah but a big part of that is growing old. You just don't get the same enthusiasm like you used to have when you were younger.
@@gabrielmnt4119 This is the unfortunate truth. Us oldies are chasing a high we can't really find.
Glad to see Mort covering more indie stuff lately! I do hope he's taking care of his voice, though--he's sounded a bit rough in recent videos.
I've played a fair bit of the campaign and do really think it has strong potential but the game has some CRAZY difficulty spikes that really threw me off. It felt like I could either brainlessly traipse through the campaigns on the starting difficulty or move just one level up to a difficulty that requires complete knowledge of what happens in that map (triggers to spawn enemies, etc.) in order to even have a chance. I do not recommend starting on any difficulty besides the lowest one
2:59 - Hexagons are the bestagons
Great video Mort! Have you ever played Age of Wonders? Back in the day, Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might and Magic were doing similar things. But Age of Wonders is still alive (they released the 4th game in the series last year), so if you like this sort of game, please do check it out.
Songs of Conquest reminds me more of the original Age of Wonders than the current one, and I might check it out since I have a strong nostalgia for the original.
Hey hey people
I really enjoyed Songs of Conquest, but the game has some absolutely BRUTAL difficulty jumps pretty early on that I could not deal with.
They revisited the campaign difficulties, if you played it a while ago, id give another go eventually to see how much it changed. Which campaign gave you the most trouble ?
@turosechil8798 it was specifically the mission 'Death to Diplomacy'- it was an insurmountable difficulty jump from what the previous missions were imo. I'll probably take another look with 1.0 being live. Hopefully, it got rebalanced.
@@platoiii5052 Ah yeah that was a tough one. The AI LOS was too big and they fixed that. They also added a few new difficulty levels, hopefully you have a better run.
Wish this one came out on ps5 i miss playing games like Heroes or kings bounty
The devs went out of their way to add gamepad and Deck support, so I assumed it was coming to console. Guess not. I bet they will release it on Nintendo's new console.
In the most recent dev posts on steam they talk about releasing on consoles.
bought a cheap PC and play as much heroes as you want
@@sodapopinksi667 it will be coming to consoles a bit later. the company that helped them with the steam deck version is also working on the port to console rn.
I'm pretty sure they'll soon announce some big news that you'll find interesting.
... i bought it, played a few hours. Lo and behold, your video come out.
What a coincidence!
I did enjoy the game, but like others have mentioned, it is different in a number of ways from HoMM. The campaigns could also have been longer. I did enjoy the game regardless and sprite work IS very pretty looking, both in combat and on the overworld.
What I really miss from HoMM that isn't in this game are the city/town screens as well as (in HoMM) the really beautiful town tracks.
I've been playing HoMM for ages, and I actually enjoyed that you had to make build decisions in SoC, instead of just upgrading. Choosing what to build in your limited number of build slots (depending on the tier of your settlement,) and that you can raze buildings and replace them, adds to the complexity without devolving into a game of micromanagement.
I still listen to the HOMM soundtrack. There is an orchestra with a UA-cam channel that focuses on the Heroes soundtrack based out of Poland - Heroes Orchestra. Paul Romero has performed with them multiple times. Highly recommended.
It reminds me in parts of the original Age of Wonders which itself was very much influenced by Might and Magic.
i have spend almost 100 games on this game. you can cast multiple magic in 1 turn, which can lead to insane combos
Thanks for the video. This comment doesn't have to do with this video. I went back into Witcher 3, and am in NG+... I really suck at that game. I'm getting bodied on the normal difficulty. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
Playing since the start of Early Access and loving it. I hope more people will give it a try after watching your video. And 100℅ review would be great!
If only there wasn't a constant blur on characters and visuals in general, I would totally play this title. But I want to keep my eyes for a little longer.
I want to like this game, but.... they are too derivative from homm. I will rather go and play Homm3 or even Homm2.
I will give it a try again.
Still waiting for Silence of the Siren... This just does not feel right.
Silence of the Siren does look promising. I'm waiting for that as well.
