Our 8 year old son played a bucket for a month then we bought him a set of Ludwig drums. I followed your tuning advice for "Maximum Thumpification" and snare tuning. With encouragement he's been playing your basic beats 'n' fills videos daily an hour to hour 'n' half, and learning well. As a go getter myself, I appreciate your great videos 'n' direct attitude about practice! Gonna reward my son again soon with new Iron Maiden album 'n' Rob Brown t-shirt for achievements! Thank you for your videos 'n' hard work!
how's kid going?
How's it going now?
For double pedal folks looking for strength and speed;
You can do these on the Left foot for a few bars then switch to the Right foot; trying to make them sound and feel the same.
(hours and hours of FUN!)
This guy can teach a child. I am very excited about this channel. I don't have a drumset as yet but still
So grateful for being born with the gifts of real drumming on real acoustic drums
Thanks Rob, as always super practical and fun to execute so you can really use it. Keep the great work you are doing.
Love your new lighting Rob. Bright combined with warm lighting is Magic.
Rob: We're gonna start at 75 bpm, sorta nice and slow, so you can see what's going there...
Me: Sets metronome to 55 and still struggles. lol
Super cool! To approach the matter in this way is much more fun. Thanks for the video and the PDF Rob!
Dude, looking fantastic btw. Your channel is a blessing. Thank you for another great lesson.
Just got my electric drums set. Learning for a month now. Thank you for your videos
Fantastic lesson Mr B!
Just what i needed, thanks Rob!
I'm getting Groovercised 👍Great lesson Rob👌❤️
Thanks rob.... been following great teachings.
Great practical advice as always from Rob.......one pattern I play to try and strengthen my bass drum foot is between my right foot on base and left hand on snare.......just repeating FLFF FLFF FLFF FLFF etc.....(against a straight 8 beat).... Like a repeating right lead paradiddle only using your foot.... Thanks again Rob....
Last tempo & grooves reminds me of that Primus tune 👌🏽. Nice exercise! 🥁
Great instruction. Laid back! Great job!
This kinda exercise is one of my favorite things to practice! I came to this realization thanks to a little drumline schooling even if it was a little later on in life but seeing you have this video makes me so happy. Thank you grids amirite? Lol
Love your lessons Rob! Just ordered my Groove Responsibly T and kick drum sticker!
Awesome. Thanks for supporting 🙂
You get us Rob! Thanks for the lesson and content....digging the new Cats. :D
I have a bit of Drift Cat fetish 👟🔥
I've been playing for years and still haven't got a bass drum foot anywhere near as fast or dynamic as I'd like. And then I came across this. Superb! When I heard you say "You gotta be good just to do the exercise!!!" I thought - hey -- at last a drum tutor who gets it!!! Thanks so much for this. Great tuition.
I subscribed a while back just to see what the drumset world was up to. Now I depend on these. These videos you make for US those that understand your language. I'm getting advanced lessons here.
These videos are awesome, thanks so much for these!
You're welcome. Thanks for watchin!
Thanks Rob! 🤗🎶🥁
Love u bro
Genio!muy claro!
Brilliant...
your channel has been very helpful for me as a beginning drummer. thank you for these tutorials. btw My Excel & Inspire Colorblock Hoodie in blue and red are crazy comfy! and my Clapping On 1 And 3' and 'Dont Touch My Drums' Tees get the best reactions when I'm out and about.
Ooooh that hoodie is FIRE 🔥 I'm gettin' ALL the colours
Awesome!
Very good video like allways
⭐✌️💯
Thanks!!!
Great exercises, Im a years to decades self taught drummer.
My foot is cemented in heel down, recently Ive been trying heel up but I loose a lot of control. Ive reverted back to heel down, I get better sound and control but I may be sacrificing speed.
On a side note, I bought an electric kit so I dont get arrested for practicing. I recently dumped it because unless you spend mega money it’s almost impossible to use dynamics, if you so much as breath on the snare its a full hit sound. supposedly you can adjust the response in the brain but Im a drummer, not a techy. Im going back to acoustic and am willing to spend a few nights in jail for “disturbing the peace” if thats what it takes.
Keep Thump’n
that splash though
Learning RHCP's "Give It Away" groove helps a lot too! :)
Grooversizes!!😀
Thank you, Mr.Brown I appreciate what you're doing to help me learn this instrument so late in my life.
Yes i agree! Rob Brown is my favorite drum teachers. He has taught me so much. I work on his exercises everyday!
No such thing as late :) good luck !!! Fighting!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Very cool :)
Rob, I was surprised to see that you use a double bass drum pedal ? What kind of pedal do you use ? As a Recreational Drummer ,at best, 70 years old in October, I resumed playing drums after 52 Years..... Retired on May 1, 2021, my spinal issues limit playing abilities, but I love playing again... I play along to My Music: CCR, Petty, Clapton, Stones, Beatles, Animals, Cars, Bonnie Rait, Linda Ronstadt , Springsteen , etc.... I play my direct drive DW single pedal Heel Down. I just can't do Heel up. But I find all your videos a pleasure, and very informative. You are passionate about your playing, and it shows. Thx for Info. Be well.
i have those exact yamaha direct pedals. do you also encounter the frequent loosening of screws and the noise from the direct drive link?bdway nice vid.
groovercise and gold dust is what i'm here for
Ahh...I'm already on my kit Mr.B
Hey there! What type of shoes are you using? Looking cool
Excellent exercises. A challenge to do CLEANLY. Perhaps I'll work them with the left foot on double bass and right hand on ride?
Get creative, man. It's all good
I always wondered why most bass drum exercises recommended an 8th note on the hi hats. Seems to me you get the most bang for the buck playing 16ths. You sync up the bass drum and hands and work on groove and not flamming and you work on ghost notes and still get your 8th notes in. Great patterns tho
nice.Which kick drum head are you using herer?
Nice Puma shoes

I am only one in genurtion i have academic drum way i hope to be out from this country to complete my way with drums couse i love drums
For us new drummers that have reached that bass pedal chapter while using stock bassdrum pedals, do you recommend upgrading BD Pedals? Im learning the slide technique and i am wondering does that sweet spot apply to all BD Pedals or does each BD Pedal differ?
Stock pedals on mid priced kits are pretty decent now, but an upgrade will be much smoother, quieter and more solid. They can be expensive, but well worth it considering the build and longevity.
@@RobBeatdownBrown Thank you for replying. I know you’re a busy man and I’m a big fan and student of yours. Much love.
Hey Rob, what notation software do you use? Thanks Matty
I actually use Mike Johnston’s groovescribe dot com. Great site
What metronome are you using? Example 2 sounded pretty cool with the weird off beat thing going on.
I think it's just a regular metronome set to 1/2
I play drums in yemen and steel war i hope to be in music way forever
How can I stop my hand from wanting to do doubles on the hi hat 😩
Rob, what software do you use to write your drum charts?
I actually use Mike Johnston’s Groovescribe dot com. Great site. Quick and easy
@@RobBeatdownBrown thanks. I want to combine your charts on this video with what you did for the accents video charts, with the little (a) written in. Now that would make a great combo. Love your channel, best one online x
Nice and simple 👍. If you really want a workout, checkout Colin Baileys bass drum book. ✌️
Start time 3:00
Hey man, I've developed a fairly insane right foot over the last 4 years of drumming, but it took a lot of screwing up and headaches to get it. I've been able to teach a handful of folks how to do it, and it's pretty easy once you understand the concept. The great part is you have to do it slow or you'll never get it. If you have any interest in what I'm talking about I could send you a quick video. Maybe it will work maybe it wont. Let me know. Edit: I taught my wife how to do it, and she can't play a beat to save her life.
This definitely calls for a video! Put it up and come back and give us the link. Always curious about what works for others.
Please share it with the world man!
@@bgnPrinceton Give me a day or so and I'll make a video. Side note here; the reason I developed my foot was due to being frustrated with being unable to place kick drum parts anywhere and everywhere I wanted be it simple or complex. So I bought a double bass pedal, and then my problems only doubled; I then had two feet that couldn't perform exactly what I wanted when I wanted so then I went back to the single. I then put my physics education to work, and decided to truly analyze the biomechanics of the leg and foot in it's true relationship with the two levers that is the pedalboard and mallet. Come to find out there is 5 levers we aren't using to their full potential. Fast forward a couple years, and I can play my right foot like I can play my two hands.
@@legacyShredder1 looking forward to video !!
@@MrHamtits I'll make it later today.
"Just do this..."
"I CAN'T do that, that's why I'm here!"
Say it louder for the people in the back.
