    Our 8 year old son played a bucket for a month then we bought him a set of Ludwig drums. I followed your tuning advice for "Maximum Thumpification" and snare tuning. With encouragement he's been playing your basic beats 'n' fills videos daily an hour to hour 'n' half, and learning well. As a go getter myself, I appreciate your great videos 'n' direct attitude about practice! Gonna reward my son again soon with new Iron Maiden album 'n' Rob Brown t-shirt for achievements! Thank you for your videos 'n' hard work!

    For double pedal folks looking for strength and speed;
    You can do these on the Left foot for a few bars then switch to the Right foot; trying to make them sound and feel the same.
    (hours and hours of FUN!)

    Rob: We're gonna start at 75 bpm, sorta nice and slow, so you can see what's going there...
    Me: Sets metronome to 55 and still struggles. lol

    Great practical advice as always from Rob.......one pattern I play to try and strengthen my bass drum foot is between my right foot on base and left hand on snare.......just repeating FLFF FLFF FLFF FLFF etc.....(against a straight 8 beat).... Like a repeating right lead paradiddle only using your foot.... Thanks again Rob....

When I heard you say "You gotta be good just to do the exercise!!!" I thought - hey -- at last a drum tutor who gets it!!! Thanks so much for this. Great tuition.

    Great exercises, Im a years to decades self taught drummer.
    My foot is cemented in heel down, recently Ive been trying heel up but I loose a lot of control. Ive reverted back to heel down, I get better sound and control but I may be sacrificing speed.
    On a side note, I bought an electric kit so I dont get arrested for practicing. I recently dumped it because unless you spend mega money it’s almost impossible to use dynamics, if you so much as breath on the snare its a full hit sound. supposedly you can adjust the response in the brain but Im a drummer, not a techy. Im going back to acoustic and am willing to spend a few nights in jail for “disturbing the peace” if thats what it takes.
    Keep Thump’n

    Rob, I was surprised to see that you use a double bass drum pedal ? What kind of pedal do you use ? As a Recreational Drummer ,at best, 70 years old in October, I resumed playing drums after 52 Years..... Retired on May 1, 2021, my spinal issues limit playing abilities, but I love playing again... I play along to My Music: CCR, Petty, Clapton, Stones, Beatles, Animals, Cars, Bonnie Rait, Linda Ronstadt , Springsteen , etc.... I play my direct drive DW single pedal Heel Down. I just can't do Heel up. But I find all your videos a pleasure, and very informative. You are passionate about your playing, and it shows. Thx for Info. Be well.

    I always wondered why most bass drum exercises recommended an 8th note on the hi hats. Seems to me you get the most bang for the buck playing 16ths. You sync up the bass drum and hands and work on groove and not flamming and you work on ghost notes and still get your 8th notes in. Great patterns tho

    For us new drummers that have reached that bass pedal chapter while using stock bassdrum pedals, do you recommend upgrading BD Pedals? Im learning the slide technique and i am wondering does that sweet spot apply to all BD Pedals or does each BD Pedal differ?

    • @RobBeatdownBrown
      @RobBeatdownBrown  2 роки тому

      Stock pedals on mid priced kits are pretty decent now, but an upgrade will be much smoother, quieter and more solid. They can be expensive, but well worth it considering the build and longevity.

    Hey man, I've developed a fairly insane right foot over the last 4 years of drumming, but it took a lot of screwing up and headaches to get it. I've been able to teach a handful of folks how to do it, and it's pretty easy once you understand the concept. The great part is you have to do it slow or you'll never get it. If you have any interest in what I'm talking about I could send you a quick video. Maybe it will work maybe it wont. Let me know. Edit: I taught my wife how to do it, and she can't play a beat to save her life.

      @@bgnPrinceton Give me a day or so and I'll make a video. Side note here; the reason I developed my foot was due to being frustrated with being unable to place kick drum parts anywhere and everywhere I wanted be it simple or complex. So I bought a double bass pedal, and then my problems only doubled; I then had two feet that couldn't perform exactly what I wanted when I wanted so then I went back to the single. I then put my physics education to work, and decided to truly analyze the biomechanics of the leg and foot in it's true relationship with the two levers that is the pedalboard and mallet. Come to find out there is 5 levers we aren't using to their full potential. Fast forward a couple years, and I can play my right foot like I can play my two hands.
