Still working through some of your older stuff. :-) Great video as always....I know you mentioned that there wasn't as much footage in this one due to race logistics but....I really liked this format. It's cool to hear both of your takes on how the race went. I'm not a racer but all of us riders like to talk about our experiences and hear about others experiences. As always...thx for bringing us along!!!
Great recap, helping me prepare mentally as a first timer doing the all mtn. Doesnt seem asvisable to overbike on this race but i too will be running one of the heavier bikes I'm guessing (probably 40+ with water bottle). What tires did you guys run?
Awesome Guys!! I cramped on Baby Heads in last years race. I think you can die from it! I rode my motorcycle up this year to watch a little and kept an eye out for you to cheer you on. Too hard to spot someone. I'll be there next year, hope you guys make it back. Super fun race. Macky's bike my guess 38.6? Great vid!
Really good results for not being focused on this type of racing, nice job both of you! Thanks for the recap, actually sounds like an interesting race weekend.
38.2 lbs....Received our new Syd and Macky water bottles. Really liking them already..Fit the cages perfectly and clean up 10x's easier than our other ones. No mess....B-watchin!
I love your content! I was wondering if you can make some good 29 inch tire recommendations for trails like bugs springs in Tucson. I always have an issue with tearing up sidewalls and want a tire thats durable but not too heavy. Thank you!
We've had great luck with the Vittoria Martello. It's pretty much our go-to tire! The Mota is great too, but more focused on wet conditions (i.e. NOT Bug Springs). If you want to try them out, you can use the code 'sydandmacky2018' to get 15% off at www.vittoria.com/us/
congrats on a strong showings in downieville!! memory lane: XC is an interesting race. i used to think that all you needed was awesome cardio and decent bike skills. when i used to race, i would pass many riders on the climbs.. only to lose all the places, and then some, on the rest of the race :(
33.5 lbs. also question for you I had a big crash last year and just broke some ribs MTB. Any tips/tricks to get comfy (mentally) on the bike faster after a crash?
Couple pounds low. 37! Generally it just takes time. There's nothing worse than crashing again, so just accept that you'll go a bit slower for a while until the confidence builds again. Working on correct form (cornering, body position, etc) really helps as well!
Great video, great results! Rode this weekend and started drinking Skratch labs because you guys recommend, GAME CHANGER !!!! 👊🏽. Thanks for the great recommendation😎
Nice work! One reason I prefer Enduro as I used to get smashed on the XC race climbs and frustratingly stuck behind riders on the descents. Oh, and you bike weighed 16.45kg
Hmmm... How much did it weigh? I'm gonna say it probably weighted exactly 10 pounds more than you wanted it to. haha. Had some friends do Downieville this year I might make it next year. It sounds like it would be right up my alley since I'm doing the 3 hour marathon races. My Trance would be perfect for that kind of event.
SYD and MACKY Good lord! Where’s the motor hiding?! I had a carbon Stumpjumper with 3.0 and 2.8 tires and had the downtube crammed with supplies and it was only 34!
That thing has gotta weigh like 37.3#. Edit: I see you already posted on Patreon the correct weight, so I guess me watching late on here, this doesn't count haha
*correction At least one of those "fast Expert XC guys," who started five minutes behind you and passed you on the climb, was not on a "XC bike" but was on a porky Ibis Ripley demo with aluminum rims. You can see him let you by at 10:09.
So Syd and Macky are "yuppies who have too much $ to spend" because they have carbon rims. That's silly. Also, a Ripley is porky (not portly...) compared to XC race bikes. That's simply a fact. Me, an XC guy? LOL, I outgrew XC racing decades ago. You're really struggling here.
@@sydandmacky Horey Shet! I can't even imagine what he would do on a bike that's close to 10 lbs lighter. Keep up the content one of my favorite channels on UA-cam.
wow, seems like the bikes I ride, I'm 6'3" 260. So the bikes I get are on the heavy side. Gotta have some strong lungs to hoist a 37 pounder up those hills. Getting kind of close to the reaches of an e-bike. Do you guys have a coupon to that store that sells your shirt? I saw Macky wearing the Bird Hippo. Now I want one. I already ordered the burrito trailer one ;)
That's cool, wife says I don't need anymore T-shirts. My wife says you guys are a cute couple, and you guys look like you would be fun to hang around with. It would be hip if you had the license plate shirt in some Clydesdale sizes ;)

Wah wan 😰
Aluminum rims are plenty light.
Carbon rims for yuppies who have too much $ to spend.
The point, which you apparently missed, is that the stock aluminum rims are heavier than their carbon counterparts.
Also, only an XC guy would call an Ibis Ripley portly.
Ibis Ripley is far from portly.
Weirdo
