Since you carry a firemans (pickhead) axe, the pick side should penetrate unbroken sheets better without glancing off, then once it's fractured go back to the axe side
I was thinking that as well, just use the pointy end to break through, make a few of them along where you want to break, then flip over to the blade side and go along the dotted line for an easier break.
I know this sounds crazy but when I was a firefighter, to open up a roof if you took a regular flathead axe and turned it around it worked surprisingly well, that's how I used it most of the time from then on or a saw lol.

The danger this man puts himself in, just to break up an "ice dam", increases a 1000 fold, the first time the axe hits the ice. Watching the culvert clearings, draining flooded streets, beaverdam removals(temporary lol) in summer and fall I like watching. However, carrying on the activity in winter, IMO, is just a matter of time before police divers will be called to search for a body under the ice.

Hes in really good shape to do this kind of work at this pace.
Post, I live in Townsend MA and there’s this small culvert next to the Hannafords that’s pretty much fully clogged, if your ever in the area once it starts melting and getting warmer it’d be a cool one to see get cleared when there is a backup of water.
Imagine if post does this! That would be awesome. Viewer requests.
Or you do something for your area and clear it yourself? Would be good to see a video of you doing it as well.

You show me things I would not otherwise see in my life, and that is a gift. Thank you, Post.
PS. I like your shirt!
The shirt was from a grocery store line down in the south (Fla. Ga. Al. S.C. N.C Tn Ms La etc. ) Called Piggly Wiggly, and was all over the south, don't know if that chain is still in business or not, I remember seeing the cashier's wearing the shirt

There's just something about watching someone do what they're passionate about and telling you about it that can't be beat! :) Love your videos, thanks for posting them so I can vibe with you :D
Growing up where I did, I would see people attempt things like this and slip under the ice in a river. They would normally be found several months later. Be careful about what you are seeing people.
I felt anxious just watching him walk on that frozen river, and then when he climbed into the culvert, I was worried for his safety. Then I remembered that somebody had to upload the video afterwards, so he must have survived. But anyone else attempting to do this *might not*.
Yes, good idea to put his disclaimer in the comments as well.
Maybe as a pinned comment.
I was wondering if he let anybody know where he was going, just in case.

"Ice dams grow up so fast"
such wholesome content
The smashing sound of the ice is absolutely incredible.
Ice blocks tumbling down a slick ice surface onto a pile of crunchy ice is my new favorite ASMR genre.
At 12:55 I loved the ASMR sound of the ice sliding and shattering. Could you make a small series of just the sounds of you clearing ice culverts? On the other hand, I also love hearing you talk about the different ways water works through culverts, and how the ice dams form! Stay safe out there!
Im not really into asmr but that sound was great!
You inspired me so much, I called my parents in the country just to let them know we don't need to pay handymen this spring, cause I'll be coming over as soon as all the snow is gone and tidying up the whole backyard on my own. Living in the city has its pros and cons, but nature is what I want to get back to someday. Can't wait to go there. You made me jealous. So, thanks for everything you're doing and posting for us to see. 🧡
Did it happen?

That honestly looks like such a grand time. I wish we had more ice dams up here, but they get removed pretty quickly!
Right now, I'm super enjoying the sounds of the ice being wrecked and the shards run down the side of the dam, it's so relaxing, plus seeing you get to break it all up with the axe looks like mad fun! Like a rage room but you don't have to worry about the stuff you break being recycled! Also for the videos, please don't be afraid to take a break, with your condition, you don't have to go go go all the time and work up your body heat so much! Plus seeing some of the ice get cleared away to reveal a big dip, MAD satisfying!
I just love watching post10, he is the epitome of honesty and not a speck of rottenness from self exaltation. I admire him. I was concerned when i read your comment, you implied that he has a condition, that made my heart very sad. i was wondering if you could fill me in? I would like to pray for him. Thank you
@@ShroudedinLove It's something about his body's ability to regulate temperature. I wish I had listened to the post & read the comments more carefully! It's not fatal or anything, but it is very uncomfortable, I guess. I *think* he easily overheats and then has to take a break to cool down. Several "fans" (😁) commented that they had the same or a similar condition. (A condition that has a name 🙄 I can't think of it right now...) The only reason he mentioned, he said, was because he has to pause pretty abruptly from time to time & he didn't want UA-camrs thinking he was getting lazy. 😄😂 (As if...)
His take on it seemed to be that it was mostly just inconvenient. After he rests for a while, and as his body temperature approaches the normalish range, he can get back to what he was doing. If I remember correctly, he usually has to go through the "reset" process once & he's good for the rest of the day.
Hope that helps! Prayers are always good. 🙏🏼 👋🏼🙋🏽♀️✌🏽

Also, nice Piggly Wiggly shirt.

Not only thanks for who you are, but how you do everything you show us. I hope you're this awesome to yourself off camera as you are on camera
So loving this! Return to my youth when pounding ice was fun and didn't cause a week of ache thereafter. Very much appreciated!
I’m sure we all really appreciate the hard work you put into your videos…breaking up that ice must have been a back breaker 👏🏻👏🏻
Which state in New England was this filmed in? I’m a New Hampshire Native and I’ve seen ice dams like this more times then I can count in my life and just like him, I found it fun to break them up. You just brought me back to my childhood and for that I’m appreciative, love you Post 10!
What the fuck is New England
Do you mean Australia?

I started watching this guy during the lockdowns. I'm still here!
Dude you had my heart racing thru most of your video because I was just waiting for the ice to crack and watch in horror you getting soaked. Thankfully you came out dry!
You really do some amazing work guy, I love your enthusiasm and the videos you make keep me coming back for more. Take care and stay safe!!!

Watch out for yourself buddy :( this can indeed get really dangerous.. :( Also it's good to wear some glasses when slashing ice. Frostshards can get really sharp

That burb @7:49 was most definitely a beer burb
I love his completely appropriate use of the word frazzle
Since you carry a firemans (pickhead) axe, the pick side should penetrate unbroken sheets better without glancing off, then once it's fractured go back to the axe side
I was thinking that as well, just use the pointy end to break through, make a few of them along where you want to break, then flip over to the blade side and go along the dotted line for an easier break.
I know this sounds crazy but when I was a firefighter, to open up a roof if you took a regular flathead axe and turned it around it worked surprisingly well, that's how I used it most of the time from then on or a saw lol.
@@nicke1903 why are you no longer a fire fighter? Thanks for risking your life for others. That takes guts and determination, great role model.
@@nickjeffrey8050 my knees are gone, before I became a firefighter I had 4 knee surgeries, then 2 while I was a firefighter, 1 I came back from, the last one just really took alot out of my strength and mobility. It wasn't from trying but there's a tremendous amount of crawling and climbing that was just a revolving door for further knee damage. The absolute last thing I wanted was to be a liability to my brothers, get injured and you call a Mayday and it's like a Moth to a flame, you got folks coming to get you and I couldn't bare the thought someone getting hurt or worse coming to get me. I've got 2 kid's, I'm a single dad ...(firefighting can be hard on a marriage) it just was the writing on the wall, I figured that I had some decisions to make...it wasn't easy. To this day, a fallen firefighter hurts, I get cold chills hearing a Q Siren and Horns just giving it, I'll always hold firefighters in the highest regard and respect. It was a amazing opportunity to be able to do it for the time I did, almost 10 year's. I still see thing's go down I'll jump right in it and see what I can do, especially before anyone's gotten on scene, you never know what you come across in everyday travels, from car accidents to cardiac arrests.

I'm from Florida. I've never experienced ice like that or temperatures you're out in so it's a little hard for me to grasp. But I am interested in culverts now and look for them when out walking.
I agree as I'm from Orlando. But I don't like places colder than my refrigerator.

Wow. That ice was good, we never see anything like that in the UK. I must admit being scared for you when you first walked out on it. Keep up the good work.
Okay but when that water finally crested the ice dam, that was so satisfying. And the sound as the water flowed over the ice was 🤩. Thanks for sharing!
Very noble of you to do this for free and all by yourself.. Talk about responsibility and love for the community.. Well Done. I hope this video will be viewed by your Local government so they can pay you fairly.
Funny how fire and ice can be so similar. I‘ve watched several videos from the Iceland-Volcano last year, and the slow moving lava made the exact same crickeling sounds as the ice shards

I remember doing stuff like this with my brother when I was a kid, love it! You did a good job 👍🏻
You have the best fun ❤️
Edit: It would be cool to watch a time lapse of such a dam forming
The danger this man puts himself in, just to break up an "ice dam", increases a 1000 fold, the first time the axe hits the ice. Watching the culvert clearings, draining flooded streets, beaverdam removals(temporary lol) in summer and fall I like watching.
However, carrying on the activity in winter, IMO, is just a matter of time before police divers will be called to search for a body under the ice.
The sound of the ice coming down the damn reminds me almost of the sound of legos clattering but somehow better, great video!
I REALLY ENJOY SEEING YOU ENJOY DOING ALL THESE UNCLOGS. THANK YOU.
32:22 Love the sound of water making a crackling sound on ice. Reminds me of flooding a skating rink on very cold days.
This video is fascinating and wonderful on so many levels, thank you for contributing this to the universe
3:22 For some reason I instinctively almost tried grabbing your shovel through my screen. The camera angle and footage looks too real haha. The Ice falling part sounded amazing
pretty cool brother . ice is always fun to pay with . i lived in grand rapids most of my life and the river behind 6 street dam would always freeze up . you would see huge sheets of ice trying to come over the dam in the spring when things started to melt . always wanted to try to walk across the river on that ice but was always to scared to try lol . its not the ice that scared me it was the falling through into that ice cold river that scared me lol . take care work safe and say hello to ghost ten for me .
I’m starting to think we need to have a drinking game for everytime he mentions culvert lol. A culvert operation to clean a culvert. You make me laugh. Your tenacity and enthusiasm is infectious. I could not live in those frigid temps. South eastern Mass is home and luckily it hasn’t been that cold in some time. Granted this is 2 years old. I can’t believe you hacked into that for that amount of time. I think the shirt is great lol.
the amount of times he says “woah woah woah” killed me the whole time 😂
Dude, @35:53 don't ever do that again. If one side of that ice let go you would probably still have your leg trapped in between them.
It's physically impossible for that ice to 'let go' there. Please take a moment to analyse the situation. What are you afraid for? I am not trying to belittle you, feel free to ask if you need more information about the physics involved in this situation.
