Thank you, Matt. I have a similar mental state and lack of motivation. I have saved your video to watch regularly as encouragement that there are lots of people in the same situation, but making that daily first move outside is the biggest hurdle and then life often seems a better place. Thanks again
What a beautiful video. Beautifully shot. Thank you.
Thank you very much
Beautiful video. You really captured the mood of winter setting in and how it feels to need motivation
Thank you very much
Beautiful countryside you have there...and an equally beautiful message. Thank you.
Thank you. I do have some very nice places to go near me
If that is the case - hiking is the next video series!
Beautiful holder. Thank you for the enjoyable views of your walk.
Thank you very much
A philosophical video. Thanks for making it.
Thanks for watching
Great video dude, love the colour and videography! So good to find a rhythm and ways to get motivated. You're videos make for a great watch during lunch break
Thank you very much
It’s amazing how such simple things can have a profoundly positive impact on people ur energy levels, motivation and general happiness.
Definitely. We all find different coping mechanisms
Thanks Matt, glad to hear you've found something that helps you, I think lots of people struggle at this time of year and It's been particularly gloomy the last few weeks even if it hasn't been that cold yet. There are some beautiful spots in the fens that feel far more remote than they actually are ! That's a great scheme at the recycling centre, I wish they all did that !
Yes it’s been so dull. I think we went two weeks without any sun
Thanks Matt! From a fellow struggeler: thank you for sharing! ❤
Thank you. Not long until spring
Hi Matt. I'm retired and suffered all my life with depression. It's an inside thing 99% of people would never know. In these colder months my motivation is zero but I drop the wife to work at 8am have a coffee, take my little dachsund for a wander and I'm ok..I'm not perfect and someday it's hard but I try. Keep up the good work Matt..love it.😊
These short days when it's so dark are hard. Not seen the sun in weeks it seems. I'm glad a wonder with the dog helps.
Excellent vid. Full of Mindfulness.
Thank you
Nicely filmed and edited - not a bad idea to release a tangential video occasionally - not only an excellent storyboard but important to highlight some of your real struggles, we all have them in one way or another. Stay strong and creative Matt.
Great video. I grew up in the fens. We used to walk around Wicken Fen it has a board walk too!
I have not been there but will go and explore
I really understand people who say they struggle with motivation - and with mood - when the skies are grey. I've had this problem all of my life. Then something interesting happened, I had the opportunity to work and live for a couple of years by the Mediterranean with 300+ days per year of blue skies and sun, many days without a single cloud in the sky. I loved it. A lot of my work involved being outdoors and, perhaps strangely, by the end of the second year, I found myself longing for a bit of '4-season' weather rather that the unrelenting sun.
Two-and-a-bit years later, on my first trip back home, when I stepped off the flight, I encountered a 'British' sky of clouds - and immediately said to myself 'That's a Constable sky'. I still have a bit of Seasonal Affective Disorder when the grey skies of winter roll in but I also find that now, provided I'm dressed for the weather, I can enjoy (some of) those days too :)
That’s interesting. I moan about the dark days but I also enjoy the changing of the season.
Thanks Matt, a great offering. I certainly detect a change to your view and outlook on life. 'Nuff said!
Thank you. I'm trying to be more relaxed
Great video. I really enjoyed the nature and woodworking combination 👍. Me and my wife are missing your cooking videos.
Thank you. Unfortunately I really struggled with the two channels
Thanks for sharing some of your walks Matt, they're in a lovely part of the country. The reuse and recycle centers are great, almost as good as skip diving for goodies :)
They are great places. Amazing what gets thrown away
@@Badgerworkshop Tell me about it. My job requires me to go sites like that to do inspections and the things I've seen thrown out. Sadly I can't grab any of it when I'm on the clock 😕 The other problem is I wouldn't have room in my car or home for it all 🤣
Thanks Matt! Take care & stay safe.
Thank you
Great video - thank you!
Thank you
Great video. Thanks Matt.
Thank you
Hi Matt, I'm a fairly recent subscriber to your channel, and I sympathise very much with the winter motivational doldrums. Getting outside definitely helps. If you do end up exploring Wicken Fen (as mentioned in other comments) I live near there: feel free to message me and drop in for a workshop visit if you fancy swapping ideas! Wood, metal, leather, willow, pottery are our key interests here. Best wishes, Chris
It’s never occurred to me to put my bench hook in the vise! Very good!
Trouble is I'm using a western style one with a Japanese saw
Really great video, Matt! I too waste too much of my off time lounging around on social media but always always always feel better for putting down the phone and getting outside. The hardest part is that initial move to move.
Yes that is always the hard part but worth it
Hi Matt, Bonus video. Plenty of nice places to walk were you are just nice to get up and go. Like my self I live on an edge of a valley about 3.5 miles out of Wrexham that's were the the hills and mountains start. As always a great video Take care
Sounds like a lovely area
Good video and very interesting to watch.
Thank you
Matt I really enjoyed this format of video. The style of the edit/angles/etc. really worked for me.
Keep going and doing some great things
Thank you. I enjoyed making it
A great video all round Matt. 👌
Thank you very much
👍👍👍. Thanks Matt
Thank you
Many thanks Matt truly a lovely video
Thank you
Inspiring
Thank you
Motivation is something you have to find, not wait for. Good video mate.
I’m a year into a house refurb and sometimes it’s hard to drag myself there after work.
The thought of one day having a lovely house for my family is what keeps me going.
Thank you. It will be a great achievement when it’s all done.
What a nice video, I've walked round that nature reserve before as I'm also local to the area, getting up for work at 4:30am is never easy but it's far easier in the summer than the winter, it always makes me grumpy
That is an early start. I’m not jealous of that
I think a lot of creative people have the challenge of low mood and lack of motivation if not fully engaged at all times.
This year had been pretty much full-on then a well needed break has turned into a period of black dog moods not helped by the grey days and long nights.
I'm gradually trying to reverse the trend and get back to doing things before the creative urges hibernate!
These short days don't help. I hope you are feeling better soon.
@@Badgerworkshop Thanks Matt - Best regards Chris
Hi Matt, that was a truly great video regarding motivation, I have to admit the colder weather does not do much for motivation, we are just going towards the summer season and the morning are still chilly, I have just made a timber corner strip for the kitchen wall, as I was not going to pay $60 for one so I saved $45, that was my motivation, I loved the loo, of the countryside you live near, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Thank you. Saving some money is definitely a good motivator
Yes, it's very hard at this time of year in England. Roll on the spring.
Seems a long off
What a lovely cinematic video!! Really enjoyed it, dodnt expect to appear in it 😂
Thank you. You motivated me to get out.
Thank you for doing what you do 😉
Thank you for watching
Livy video, the struggle is definitely real. I hope you raked up your trimmings, your wild flowers will be better next year for it.
Thank you. Yes I did
Nice one Badger! 😎
Thank you
Do you have a chauffeur or is your car left-hand drive
Getting very arty Matt, love it
Thank you
I love this country too Matt, every field and hedgerow. I also have an old, heavy porters trolley like that. Can't tell you how many times it's come in useful over the years. Get on with it and get the wire wheel onto it, you won't regret it. If you find anything to rejuvenate the solid wheels, that'll be a bonus.
I think in the summer I will get the grinder on it. I'm sure it will come in handy when done
No need to put up with Tudorbethan solid wheels these days, it’s a tool much improved with pneumatic tyres containing actual air 😂
@@gilesfone I disagree, we've both styles in work and everyone opts for the one with so,I'd wheels. The other is brand new as no one uses it.
Yep, it can be a struggle sometimes to get motivated. I may become one of those guys who makes Lists. I list of ideas and projects and possibly a timeline of when to do it. 🤔
I’m a big fan of lists. Feels great crossing things off it
How dare anyone call those wonderful canals”the drain”!! I follow several UA-camrs who are narrowboaters, “Cruising the Cut” being my favorite, and although I’m in the states and will never see the boats or canals firsthand, and I find them extremely fascinating! Thanks for another great video!
Cruising the cut went along that bit of canal a couple of years ago
I don't have a choice about walking - I have a dog. By the time I've walked her, then pottered in the garden, it's dark so I promise to do it tomorrow
The days are so short at the moment
Who was driving the car?
i use my big youtube money to hire a chauffeur
Same here Matt, I prefer to start late and work late. Well I call it work but it’s not, it’s my relaxation
That’s the best kind of work
Thanks Matt, its definitely not just you, its an awful time of year and it is difficult to keep motivated. So thank you for sharing.
Probably just me, but every time you use the Bison wax, it reminds me the joke punchline, you cant wash your hands in a bison.
It’s my favourite wax. It smells amazing
lovely Matt, thanks fir sharing your motivation help... i have to say I don't evny your work when it comes to digging out that stump! if you are desperate for exercise that WILL get your heart pumping!
Thank you. I'm not looking forward to that job.
@@Badgerworkshop i'm with you Matt... i've have dug up a couple of roots this year and it wasn't pleasant... my only advice is to big a much much wider hole than you think you'll need at least then you can cut the roots easier, and cut the roots in 2 places, first further away from the trunk and the 2nd cut nearer the trunk. a day should be enough time. and get a nice long, heavy metal pole to lever the stump out
You know, Matt, since I started watching things about the missing 411 and stuff like that I got much more uncomfortable about long walks in the wilderness... 😂
But I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes we need fresh air to clear the mind!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I have not heard of the 411 but will have to watch now.
No way!!
You live in Whittlesey?
I’m next door in Peterborough.
Hello neighbour
@ 👍🏽👍🏽
Nooice!
Thank you
Didn't finish the vid. Gone for a walk brb.
Hope you come back motivated
You need a four legged companion.
I would like one
If you need help staying motivated… like you were, I am a chef. In less than a week we have full menu change and the Turkey slog begins for 7 weeks.
Enjoy the walks and remember the ‘good old days’! You’ll be running to the workshop😂
Good luck. I don’t miss the Christmas season in the kitchen
I thought the tree stump was fire wood, nice little item fashioned.
Winter, very meh. I hate the constant grey. I could quite happily go to bed in October and get up in March
It has been so grey this year unfortunately
@@Badgerworkshop 💯. No engery, maybe I am solar powered
A dog would definitely help with motivation. The more dogs the more motivation I reckon….
I have been told that
Matt did i spot you at Harrogate Woodworking Show today??
You might well have. I was on the Sawstop stand for three days
You need to get a dog mate, makes walks far less weird 😂
Haha I would love one.
I second this, life is just better with a dog.
Or a maine coon cat. It works the same way. 😬
Jack Russell maybe? Call it badger
What on earth are you talking about? Weird? You don’t need a dog to go for a walk. In some ways you end up concentrating on the dog rather than enjoying the countryside.
Matt as always a delight to see your videos appear on the feed, a true inspiration, maybe its time i got back to filming the video for my channel i started 2 years ago (life got busy!) No more excuses. Go for a walk and ask myself what would matt do, and stop letting @kieth distract me is a helpful tip too ;)
It’s all Keith’s fault. I hope you find the time to film
